And a little dog shall lead them . . . . and so he did, perfectly in synch with the Ok (Dog) trecena.

From “Aloka’s Journey, the Full Story” – the story of how a remarkable little dog found a group of Buddhist monks in India, then came to live with them in the US, and has since inspired millions.
Indeed, it was a little dog named Aloka, with a heart shaped marking on his forehead, who became known as “the Peace Dog”, who accompanied 19 Buddhist monks on an epic pilgrimage during the Ok trecena last fall, that drew a great deal of attention to the power of peaceful demonstrations. The pilgrimage has been referred to as “a prayer made of footsteps” – very much in keeping with the idea of the “footsteps” symbolism associated with Ok as the guide – a dog leading the way through darkness and into the light. And Aloka’s name itself means “light”. As so beautifully stated in the video – “each step is a promise that the world can be softer than yesterday”.
And since then millions and millions of people have taken part in actions and demonstrations that have individually and collectively been working to push away the darkness, one action – one step – at a time. And sometimes there have even been large “celebratory” actions, such as the World Cup that continues through most of this trecena, that have brought people together in joyful rapport, to celebrate life and bring back hope.
It has now been just over two Tzolk’in cycles since the “great darkness” fell in the US, when it became blatantly obvious, as Canadian journalist Andrew Coyne wrote at the time, that the government of the United States had been taken over by “a gangster, whose sole purpose in running, besides staying out of jail, is to seek revenge on his enemies”. But it was not long before the Ok trecena began bringing in glimmers of hope, through the courts, through local initiatives, and on the streets, as people began finding very creative ways to push back against the horrors that were unfolding.
And so, as the Ok trecena returns, it might be helpful to remember that the first day of this time frame (One Ok) was celebrated traditionally as a Feast Day of Renewal, oriented around the idea of guidance, justice, and the restoration of life. Thought of as being under the patronage of Xipe Tótec, the Lord of Renewal, and Quetzalcóatl, Lord of Life, this trecena was seen as a time when a new sense of direction in conjunction with the energies of renewal come into play.
The Aztec deity known as Xipe Tótec, who was generally depicted wearing a flayed skin, symbolic of the “sloughing off” of the old and the bursting forth of the new, symbolized this idea. This can also be seen as a metaphor for the “skin” of a bud falling away as a leaf or flower emerges and opens. And one of the key symbols associated with this time frame is a dog holding a torch, bringing light into the darkness and showing the way, as has happened many times in the past during this period, and as Aloka symbolized on that epic journey last year. The Feathered Serpent shown in the trecena image echoes the idea of “cyclical regeneration” and renewal.

Adaptation of the Ok (Dog) trecena from the pre-Columbian Codex Borgia by artist Richard Balthazar (used with permission). The first day (One Ok) is represented by the little head of a white dog (with a black eye) at the lower left (within the border). The other days of this trecena proceed from there to the right, and then up towards the top, to the little duck-beaked mask image at the upper right, which represents Ik’ (Wind). The daysign numbers pertaining to this trecena (beginning with One Ok) are not shown, but implied. The two patron deities associated with this trecena are shown in the larger image at the top. On the left sits Xipe Totec, the Lord of Renewal, and on the right is Quetzalcóatl, the great “Feathered Serpent”, the Lord of Life, who is often associated with Justice. Click here for an overview of Richard’s various other versions of the same trecena.
As always, one of the things that the Maya Calendar offers is the opportunity to look at the evolution of life from the perspective of energy cycles, as “themes” related to events have a way of returning and evolving in a cyclical manner. And one of the themes that has tended to be highlighted during this time frame is that of justice and accountability – which was very much the case three cycles ago when the orange monstrosity was judged to be Guilty on 34 felony counts in the hush money case.
Similarly, it was the first day of this trecena five cycles ago (in December of 2022), when the Jan. 6th committee in Washington DC met for the final time, as they made public the criminal referrals that resulted from their investigations. On the fourth day (4 B’en), they released their final report and recommendations for prosecution.
At this particular time that same 4 B’en energy is something to keep an eye on, as this is a marker point of note in the Maya Long Count calendar, with the short form of this date being 13.0.13.13.13. With 13 being a number in Maya Calendrics that is highly aligned with transformation, this could be significant. It is also coinciding with the New Moon. Back in 1963 that was the energy in place at the time of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Intriguingly, he was also inaugurated during this trecena in 1961.
During the early 1970’s this was the time frame that brought an end to the whole Nixon era, culminating with the Watergate scandal. Indeed, it was the first day of this trecena in 1974 when the US Supreme Court ruled that Richard Nixon had to turn over the recordings that included “The Smoking Gun Tape” which contained evidence of his obstruction of justice. Three days later the first of three articles of impeachment against him were passed, and Nixon resigned shortly thereafter.
During the summer of 2016 this was the time frame within which Hillary Clinton made history by becoming the first female to be officially nominated as a presidential candidate by a major US political party. We all know what happened after that.
Two cycles ago, in early 2025, the U.S. was reeling from the chaos spewing forth from the White House as the monstrous felon, aided by the world’s richest man, was firing grenades disguised as executive orders from the White House – orders (many of which have been proven to be illegal) – that have severely impacted the lives of millions of people. As Andrew Coyne pointed out, the government of the United States was in the hands of a demented, revenge-seeking gangster, and everything, everywhere seemed to be “on fire”. As Senator Chris Murphy bluntly echoed – even the US Constitution was “being lit on fire.”
But at the same time a new kind of fire was being lit – a grass roots kind of fire that was sparking the flames of resistance. And indeed, in Mesoamerican mythology the symbol of a dog holding a torch, as if to light the way, is a good metaphor for this period, as this is when those sparks of light begin to appear, or grow even brighter, as new directions are formulated or strengthened.
Over this past cycle in particular, there have been many, many examples of people “holding high” the torch, to light the way forward, during this period. Looking back to 1961 that torch could be seen at the time of John F. Kennedy’s inauguration speech on the eighth day of this time period, when he said:
In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility –I welcome it. . . . . The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it–and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

John F. Kennedy stamp. It is intriguing that there is a torch on this stamp, reflective of a key symbol for this Ok trecena, as this is the trecena during which he was inaugurated, and during which he was assassinated. His state funeral was held at the mid point of this trecena, four Tzolk’in cycles less a day after his inauguration. The era of capitulation and obey in advance is over. The No Kings era is here, and it’s defined by widespread mass defiance of this regime. That’s why we’re launching the No Kings alliance, a nationwide Rapid Response Network built for this moment to coordinate pushback … The alliance is an effort to coordinate the full diversity of our movement and use the leverage that we have with the people power we’ve collectively built.
At that time torches were being lit all over that country and people in every state, from every persuasion, were standing up and saying No to tyranny.
Two cycles ago, when it became so evident that the Nero who had taken over the White House had no respect for the people whatsoever, it was clear that the people would need “all hands on deck” in order to push back against those dark forces that were assaulting the country on multiple levels. And the No Kings Day marches that brought over seven million people into the streets last year underscored the bravery and creativity of those millions as they made their voices heard. And it was not just the No Kings marches, but also the targeted protests against such things as ICE officers attempting to abduct people from their homes and work places, and the daily demonstrations against tyrannical edicts and practices that have involved people pushing back against injustices in multitudes of ways.
As the next chapter plays out over the next 13 days, let’s keep in mind that this was the trecena in place during World War II at the time when British and Allied forces were knocked back to the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940 as they became trapped by the German army. For some “still debated” reason the Germans halted their advance on Dunkirk for several days near the beginning of this trecena, which allowed the Allies to organize an evacuation. Over 800 vessels, both large and small, raced to the rescue of over 338,000 Allied troops as the call for assistance went out. It was a seemingly impossible situation that was turned around by the unselfish actions of people who leapt into the breach throughout this trecena to save the lives of all those men who were cornered in a hellish situation. The bravery and force of intent that went into that operation of rescuing those troops from the Dunkirk beaches became known as the “Dunkirk Spirit”. That is the kind of spirit that has been fired up in citizens at all levels of society as they gather more and more strength in their efforts to rid their country, and the world, of the menace that has been holding them hostage.
To help with that effort, as this next Ok trecena unfolds, Xipe Tótec, the ancient Mesoamerican Lord of Renewal, and Quetzalcóatl, Lord of Life, Knowledge, and Culture will again serve as the patrons of this time frame, offering their superpowers in this mighty effort to regain sanity, equilibrium, justice, and accountability. And as we go though this period, “may our footsteps write the story of a world that walks in peace” (Snehashis Priya Baru). Here are the energies that will be in play:
1 Ok (July 11th) “One Dog” – the “initiation of love, loyalty, warmth, guidance”, an energy associated with regeneration, sometimes depicted as a dog holding a torch, leading the way through the darkness. Currently this is coinciding with New York’s “Full Sun on the grid” Manhattanhenge that will take place for the second time this year, on a day when Aloka himself will be making an appearance in Anaheim, California.

Aloka will be Walking for Peace in California with Bhikkhu Pannakara on One Ok (One Dog), the first day of this trecena
Traditionally, this was an ancient Maya Feast Day of Renewal, the festive day associated with a deity known to the Aztec as Xiuhtecuhtli, associated with the renewal of time and the creation of life itself. He was sometimes depicted as Huehuetéotl – the Old, Old [Fire] God, whose image was often shown on braziers. Associated with purification, transformation, the regeneration of natural cycles, and even the regeneration of the cosmos, Huehuetéotl-Xiuhtecuhtli presided over New Fire ceremonies (marking Calendar Round returns, every 52 years) and the lighting of the fires of renewal. It is not unusual to see Xiuhtecuhtli associated with Xipe Tótec, the Lord of Renewal, who oversees this time frame.
The ancient Florentine Codex tells us that, on this day, people “fed the fire” with offerings (including decorative paper arrays) and different forms of incense. Rulers were elected on this day, and a court of justice was held during which sentencing was pronounced on wrong-doers.
In 1974 this was the energy in place when the US Supreme Court ruled that Richard Nixon had to turn over the recordings that included “The Smoking Gun Tape” which contained evidence of his obstruction of justice. Three days later the first of three articles of impeachment against him were passed, and Nixon resigned shortly thereafter. How did we get from there to the rampant, unthinkably high levels of governmental lawlessness and corruption that have turned into a relentless daily nightmare in the US?
In 1991 this was the energy in place when the Act of Declaration of Independence (from the USSR) was adopted by the Ukrainian parliament, thereby establishing Ukraine as an independent state.
In 2022 this was in place when Viktor Orbán and his right-wing government won a fourth term in the parliamentary elections in Hungary. As Orbán had visited Mar-a-Lago several times prior to the 2024 presidential election in the US, it seemed to be more than “mere coincidence” that the dumpster followed Orbán’s playbook in his rush to dismantle democracy in the U.S. However, Orbán was ousted earlier this year in Hungary – and things are rapidly falling apart now in the dumpster’s administration, as even large numbers of his former “faithful followers” are turning away from him. So this Day of Renewal is bringing some sense of a promise of better days ahead, when sanity and civility and “warmth” may slowly begin to return.
Currently this is the 37th anniversary of World Population Day, which was established through the United Nations Development Program in 1989 when the world’s population was considerably less than it is now. It had reached 5 billion two years earlier, and is now some 8.3 billion. This is also the UN’s Wild Horse Day, to recognize the global role of horses.
2 Chuwen (July 12th) – a dynamic type of energy traditionally aligned with creativity, often involving some kind of “intense heat”, coinciding with Manhattan’s half-sun alignment. Metaphorically 2 Chuwen can be seen as a solar force within a fire-oriented time frame, so this energy can often trigger intense engagement and action, as it did on that dramatic day in 1970 when the Apollo 13 spacecraft successfully returned to Earth after its aborted mission to the moon.
Six cycles ago this energy was in place when the UN released a critical report on climate change that highlighted the fact that harmful carbon emissions between 2010-2019 were the highest ever in human history – proof that the world is on a “fast track” to disaster. At that time scientists were emphatically pointing out that it’s ‘now or never’ to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. Since then slow action and climate change denialism have not only hindered climate change progress, but scientists are now predicting that global heating is likely to reach 2C by 2045, which could supercharge extreme weather across the world, unless solar geoengineering is deployed. But in the US, problematically, those kinds of systems have also being destroyed.
Four cycles ago, which was almost one cycle exactly after the release of the Jan. 6th committee’s final report in the U.S., the dumpster and 18 other co-defendants were arraigned in Georgia on a wide range of charges (including racketeering) associated with election interference. On that same day a federal judge ruled that the dumpster was liable for defamatory comments he made in 2019 about writer E. Jean Carroll. He was ordered to pay her $5m as a part of that New York civil lawsuit, the first of two against him that she won. On July 8th this year, just before this current trecena began, she finally received $5.8 million (that $5 million + interest) after seven long years of battle in the courts. Three cyles ago this was in place as the hush money trial was nearing its conclusion.

Aloka has inspired many beautiful songs, including Aloka Walks with Me.
3 Eb’ (July 13th) – the activation of “animating vitality”, a pathfinding/stream-of-consciousness type of force, now marking one cycle since the start of a 2,300 mile Walk for Peace from Fort Worth to Washington DC by 19 Buddhist monks, led by Aloka, the little dog with a heart shaped marking on his forehead, whose name means “Light”. Aloka has inspired a great many songs and outpourings of love ever since and is now known as The Peace Dog.
Back in December of 2022 this was the energy in place when Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy met with President Biden in Washington, and addressed a joint session of Congress, in a bid to secure help from the U.S. for his battle to protect his country from the Russian invaders. Now, five brutal cycles later, with the horrific war still raging, and the U.S. head of state continuously floundering around and flip flopping like a complete lunatic, President Zelenskyy has become fully aware that EU leaders are much more reliable allies than the US in this battle against oppression. This day is marking 1600 days since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This is the 101st anniversary of the opening of the famous Scopes “Monkey” trial in Dayton, Tennessee, when high-school teacher John T. Scopes was accused of breaking the law by teaching evolution instead of the Biblical idea of divine creation. This is also the second anniversary of the attempted assassination of Trump at an open-air campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
4 B’en (July 14th) – a “defining” type of energy associated with personal authority, traditionally seen as “the ruler’s day sign”, the day when new Maya lords and rulers were installed and large amounts of tribute were paid to them. Traditionally, this was seen as a propitious day for the drilling of a New Fire (a renewal ritual) because naui acatl (Nahuatl for 4 B’en) meant “fire drills in all 4 directions”. Note that this time this energy is coinciding with Long Count date 13.0.13.13.13, at the time of the New Moon. With 13 being a number in Maya Calendrics that is highly aligned with transformation, this will be a significant “marker” day.
Note as well that this 4 B’en energy has often been highly consequential in world and U.S. history, as this was in place when the first article of impeachment was approved against Richard Nixon in 1974, and in place when Hillary Clinton made history in 2016 by becoming the first female to be officially nominated as a presidential candidate. It was also in place at the time of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
Five cycles ago, in December of 2022, the Jan. 6th committee released its final report under this influence. The report, spanning hundreds of pages, recommended criminal charges (for insurrection against the government, obstruction of an offical proceeding of Congress, and conspiracy to defraud the government) against Trump and others involved in plotting, or taking part in, the attack against the U.S. Capitol. At that time Rep. Liz Cheney also said that the dumpster’s refusal to stop the riot was a “clear dereliction of duty”. She emphasized that “No man who would behave that way at that moment in time can ever serve in any position of authority in our nation again. He is unfit for any office.” Then, exactly one cycle later (in September of 2023), the Georgia Special Grand Jury released its final report on the plot to overturn the election, and its recommendations for criminal charges.
Currently this is Bastille Day in France (French National Day), the 237th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in Paris in 1789, which was a critical turning point in the French Revolution – a significant event that led to the overthrow of the monarchy and the abolition of feudalism. Bastille Day generally includes a large fireworks show at the Eiffel Tower.

La Prise de la Bastille (The Storming of the Bastille) on the 9th day of this trecena in 1789. Watercolour painting by Jean-Pierre Louis Laurent Houël. Public Domain via Wikimedia Commons.
This was also the Maya birth energy of Emmeline Pankhurst, who organized the UK suffragette movement in the early 1900s.
5 Ix (July 15th) – a “precision” type of energy associated with mystery and transformation, and even rulership, as was in place in November of 2020, the day of that U.S. presidential election, when Joe Biden had to “battle for the soul of America”. Biden won on that day, but that battle continues.
As this is the day for the Todd Blanche confirmation hearing in Congress, for the office of US Attorney General, this will be another marker day within that overall fight for democracy in that country.
As it happens, this is Democracy and National Unity Day in Turkey, National Respect Canada Day, and St. Swithin’s Day in the UK. According to British folklore, is a marker for predicting the weather for the subsequent 40 days. Whether it rains or shines, folklore says it will continue in that way for the next 40 days and nights. As this might apply to that congressional hearing, the results of that hearing will also determine the direction of “political winds” over the next few weeks or months.
This is also Ukrainian Statehood Day, a state holiday to commemorate one of the most critical events in Ukraine’s modern history, when Ukraine adopted its Declaration of State Sovereignty in 1991.
In 1919 this was the energy in place at the opening of the Paris Peace Conference for negotiation of treaty settlements after World War I, and then again in 1939 when Canada declared war on Germany. One cycle after that, in May of 1940, this energy was in place at the start of the huge efforts to undertake evacuations from Dunkirk beaches during World War II.
This is the 80th Gregorian birthday of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, the “absolute monarch” who is one of the world’s wealthiest royals, and who became the world’s longest-reigning monarch after the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022. He is not only one of the wealthiest people in the world, but is also one of the world’s few absolute monarchs.
This is also rock legend Linda Ronstadt’s 80th Gregorian birthday, and Keith Richard’s Maya birth energy.
6 Men (July 16th) – a “stabilizing” type of energy associated with the high vision of the eagle, on a day when millions of devotees will be in the state of Odessa in northern India at the start of Ratha-Yatra, the oldest chariot festival in the world.
In Canada this is the first day of the 4-day Back to Batoche Festival in Saskatchewan, a celebration of Métis culture, languages, and history.
This high-flying “6 Eagle” force was the energy in place in 1946 when the first ever photo of Earth from space was taken from a German V-2 rocket launched from New Mexico.
It has now been 14 Tzolk’in cycles exactly since Hillary Clinton delivered her acceptance speech as the Democratic nominee for President at the 2016 DNC, with every expectation that she would actually be elected president. How different the world would be now if she had not had that win stolen from her through Russian interference in the election.
Two cycles ago this was in place when the dumpster signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to work with the Elon Musk-led DOGE to make “large-scale” workforce reductions. As Musk “held court” in the Oval Office he clearly “overshadowed” the dumpster, as he defended his outsized role in the gutting of federal agencies, and tried to dismiss concerns about his own clear conflicts of interest, since six of his businesses were dealing with investigations, complaints or regulatory actions from 11 of the U.S. federal agencies he had taken a leading role in drastically cutting back or reshaping. The whole bizarre (and terrifying) episode had people wondering who was actually in charge in the White House. And people are STILL wondering!
That was the day (520 days ago) when several Democratic state attorneys-general warned that the US was in the grip of a full-blown constitutional crisis, as they battled Trump in court over actions they argued were lawless and in some cases brazenly unconstitutional. The A-G of Arizona stated that “We are on the brink of a dictatorship, and America has never been in a more dangerous position than she is today.” But . . . despite all those observations and warnings, the so-called head of that country is still brazenly committing lawless acts on almost a daily basis. The fact that he literally took a wrecking ball to the historic East Wing of the White House, two days after over 7 million people voiced their dissent in over 2700 locations across the country last year, says it all!
7 Kib’ (July 17th) – a self-generating type of energy, often associated with engendering the kind of thought that can lead towards taking practical actions and “restoring order”, marking the start of a “Good trouble Lives On”, Weekend of Action in the US, beginning on this sixth anniversary of the passing of the prominent civil rights activist John Lewis. Congressman Lewis coined the term “Good Trouble” to represent the idea of people taking peaceful, collective, non-violent action to challenge injustice and push towards meaningful change, justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.
This was the energy in place when the first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970 when some 20 million Americans poured into the streets to demand environmental justice, in one of the largest single day protests in human history. Three cycles ago this was in place as the summations and closing arguments were made in the Trump hush money trial in New York.
In 1963 this was in place at the time of President John F. Kennedy’s state funeral and burial, after he was assassinated several days earlier.
8 Kab’an (July 18th) – a “resurrection” type of energy associated with “evolutionary” movement, coinciding with the second day of the “Good trouble Lives On”, Weekend of Action, and the opening of the 117th NAACP National Convention in Chicago. Note that last year was the first year in which a sitting president was not invited to attend this convention, the first time in its 116-year history that such as exclusion was made, but that decision was made because of his continuous attacks on democracy and civil rights.
Note that in 1961 this was the energy in place at the time of the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy, at which time he called for “high standards of strength and sacrifice”, and for “invoking the wonders of science”, as he called for unification to “undo the heavy burdens”. Near the end of his speech were the immortal words: “ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”. There is a universe of difference between the values and ideals that he was speaking of at that time and the abominations associated with the current U.S. presidency. This is also former President Jimmy Carter’s Maya birth energy.
When this energy was in place in November of 2020, eight cycles ago, just after the presidential election, when the states that were still finishing up with vote counting all flipped in Joe Biden’s favour, Washington Post columnist Peter Marks tweeted, with regard to the dumpster: “He will never have another good day. Loser label will haunt him. The law will pursue him. Mental illness will hobble him. His properties will bankrupt him.” While most of that prediction has been shown to have come true, Marks may not have foreseen to what extent the orange felon would use the presidency as a vehicle for tacky, and widespread, grifting. But despite all that ill-gotten gain, the world sees him for the mentally ill “loser” that he actually is. Contrast this with the remembrances associated with Nelson Mandela, on this Mandela International Day, on what would have been Mandela’s 108th birthday. The theme for this year’s observance of Nelson Mandela Day is: “It’s Still in Our Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequality”. One of Mandela’s many comments that needs to be remembered and taken as a key guideline is this one:
It is easy to break down and destroy. The heroes are those who make peace and build.
If, by chance, you happen to be in Venice at this time, you are most fortunate and this is the day-night of the Festa del Redentore, when Venice will once again relive what locals affectionately call la notte famosissima — the “most famous night of the year”, billed as “a night where memory, faith, food, friendship, water, and fireworks merge into a single, unforgettable experience. Oh, to be in Venice at this time!
9 Etz’nab’ (July 19th) – representative of “outwardly-projecting” flint, a “spark-oriented” (and even knife-edged) type of energy that can be quite dramatic and consequential – an energy that often serves to bring something to a definite conclusion, as it did exactly three cycles ago when the jury in the Orange Felon’s hush money case delivered a verdict of Guilty on all 34 felony counts. For many there was a tremendous sense of elation at that time, as it seemed that finally, finally the justice system was extracting some sort of accountability for this long series of crimes. Who could have imagined that just one cycle later he would be tearing down the entire U.S. justice system and that one cycle after that he would be ripping into the White House itself?
Contrast this with what was happening in 1963, when this energy was in place five days after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, at which time President Johnson gave an address to the joint session of Congress when he strongly advocated for the earliest possible passage of JFK’s civil rights bill.
When this energy was in place eight cycles ago Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election. He then delivered a highly inspirational victory speech in Wilmington, Delaware, at which time he pledged “to be a President who seeks not to divide but to unify”. Congratulations poured in from leaders around the world, and during his term in office President Biden worked tirelessly to bring in beneficial legislative reforms, and contributed significantly in helping western nations remain united in assisting Ukraine with its defence against Russia.
Currently this is the day of the championship match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Shakira, Madonna, and BTS will be headlining the Super Bowl-style halftime show, which will raise money to help children access soccer and education. The event will take place at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on National Ice Cream Day.
This marks one cycle since the fabulous opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, near Cairo.
10 Kawak (July 20th) – “foundational storm” – an energy associated with intense catalyzation as often can be seen and felt in major energy pushes or strong weather systems, coinciding at this time with the start of the vibrant La Guelaguetza festival in Oaxaca, which is a grand celebration of traditional food, music, dance, parades, and artistry. The Zapotec word Guelaguetz translates as “reciprocal exchange of gifts and services”, reflective of the values of community and reciprocity.
This also marks exactly nine cycles since a dozen towns in northern Italy went into lockdown due to the coronavirus in February of 2020.
11 Ajaw (July 21st) – an “inspirational sun” or “inspirational enlightenment” Burner Day, the last Burner Day in the Ajaw “Burner” sequence, seen by the Quiche Maya as “Ancestors’s Day”, a day to visit the sacred western mountain of the ancestors and ask for blessings.
Currently this is marking seven cycles exactly since the Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol held its first hearing, in July of 2021. During that investigation the committee conducted more than 1,000 closed-door interviews, investigated tens of thousands of documents, and held 10 public hearings. Over 1,500 people were arrested and charged for taking part in that attack, and hundreds were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. And then – on Jan. 21st of last year, the Orange Felon pardoned them all and they were released.
This day also marks eight cycles since the announcement in November of 2020 that a preliminary analysis showed that the “first milestone” vaccine for Covid appeared to offer at least 90% protection. Pfizer and BioNTech described that as a “great day for science and humanity”. That was then . . . but now, after all the firings and insane appointments of grossly unqualified, and often highly dangerous, people to key positions in the U.S. government the unanswered question remains: “How long will it be before there will ever be another ‘great day for science and humanity’ in that country?”
In 1815 this was the energy in place at the time of the Proclamation of Peace on Feb. 18, when the Treaty of Ghent came into effect, marking the offical conclusion to the War of 1812 between the US and Great Britain. This is also the Maya birth energy of Mikhail Gorbachev, the eighth and final President of the Soviet Union, who won a Nobel Peace prize in 1990 for helping to end the Cold War.
12 Imix (July 22nd) – a “gathering together” type of force oriented around new beginnings (often “cosmic”), as was in place in 2024 when Claudia Sheinbaum won Mexico’s general election, to become Mexico’s 66th president. That was the 100th anniversary of the day when Pres. Calvin Coolidge signed into law The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 (aka the Snyder Act) – a bill that granted full citizenship to Native Americans, after their exclusion from the U.S. Bill of Rights for nearly 135 years. It certainly took long enough for them to be recognized in their own country.
Currently this is the day of the summit between the EU and UK to discuss a “reset” relating to their post-Brexit relations, towards the UK officially rejoining the EU.
13 Ik’ (July 23rd) – “transformational wind, breath, and spirit”, coinciding with the opening of the XXIII Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, which will bring together athletes from 74 nations and territories for 11 days of competition. This is the world’s second-largest multi-sport event after the Olympics.
In Egypt, this is Revolution Day, commemorating the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, which led to the end of the monarchy and the end of British occupation, and the establishment of a republic. (There a second “Revolution Day” commemoration in January in recognition of the 2011 Arab Spring uprising).
This is now marking nine Tzolk’in cycles since the CDC’s top official on respiratory diseases in the U.S. warned people (in February 2020) to prepare for the inevitability of the community spread of Covid-19, indicating that the “disruption to everyday life might be severe”.
One cycle ago this was the energy in place when the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments relating to the Orange Felon imposition of tariffs on global trading partners through use of the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Ultimately the Court declared this to be illegal and ruled that billions of dollars would have to be refunded.
Back in 1974 this was the energy in place when President Nixon’s “Smoking Gun” tape was made public, when he had to release transcripts of conversations that took place after the Watergate break-in. This provided the “smoking gun” proof that Nixon had obstructed justice by ordering the FBI to stop its investigation of the break-in. Other transcripts revealed that he had directed a cover-up. Republicans on the Judiciary Committee who had voted against impeachment then announced that they would change their vote. But that was over 50 years ago, long before Republicans sold their souls and allowed their country to be trashed by a madman.
Note that this is an intense energy – as was in place in 1940 during the final day of the enormous Dunkirk rescue operation during World War II.
