Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

The Maya date was 4 Ajaw 3 K’ank’in, equivalent to Dec. 21, 2012 – not the “end” of the calendar, but the completion of the 13th Bak’tun, a key date that marked the beginning of a new Great Cycle of Time. As always, the energies encoded in the calendar continue on. As described in Manual for the Soul, A Guide to the Energies of Life, the 260 day cycle that forms the foundation for the Maya Calendar is comprised of 20 trecenas (weeks), each containing 13 days, each of which represents a unique energy with a very special meaning. These energies as they manifest, at work and at play, are the focus of this blog.

The timing was exquisite – timing fit for a King, or a Queen, or a Pharaoh, as fate and circumstance would have it. Just as this trecena was starting to come in late last night (April 3rd) Egypt staged a spectacular royal “Golden Parade” as the mummies of 18 kings and four queens – Egypt’s royal ancestors – were transported Read the full article…

“I’m on a mission” – that seems to be what Mother Nature is saying right now, as crocuses and fresh green shoots push through the earth, buds pop out on trees, and birds start returning to northern climes. The annual herring spawn in the ocean off eastern Vancouver Island is attracting hundreds of seals and sea lions, and tens of Read the full article…

Spring is on the horizon and after a long, bleak, winter of confinement, light is definitely shining through. And now we have the Ajaw (Sun) trecena to help this along. In the realm of the Classic Maya, this trecena was welcomed traditionally as a time for celebration. The very first day, One Ajaw, was observed as a celebrational “day of Read the full article…

Holding hands – it seems such a simple, common gesture, and yet – in these seemingly endless “social distancing” – days, when so many people are in need of assistance and support, even this simple act of comfort is too often denied or withheld due to the global pandemic. But hands can send signals, hands can write messages, hands can Read the full article…

Trumpocalypse – that is the word used by political analyst David Frum (and the title of his new book) at the beginning of this trecena last May to describe a situation whereby “a huge swath of Americans” would risk the stability of American democracy by following the dictates of someone who has inflicted incalculable damage on the US and the Read the full article…

How does that Nina Simone song go?  . . . . It’s a new dawn. It’s a new day.  It’s a new life . . . and [we’re] “feeling good”. . . and, amazingly, these are the kind of sentiments being expressed by many at this time. It’s as if the first few rays of dawn have broken through the Read the full article…

A presidential inauguration, all 50 states on high alert in the U.S., a second  Senate impeachment trial, severe moral and economic crises in multiple areas, and an out-of-control global pandemic – all this and much more is in motion during this final trecena of the current 260 day calendrical cycle. As always, many are celebrating the arrival of the new Gregorian year – looking forward to a new administration in Washington, and making plans for how to move forward with a “fresh start”. That is one way of looking at it, but from the perspective of the Maya calendar things are a little different, as the Maya calendar is telling Read the full article…

Wind, Breath, Spirit – these are the three key words that are generally associated with the Ik’ trecena that is coming into place at this time. And as this trecena begins each of these takes on significant meaning. Wind and breath are things of the AIR – and these days it is evident that this is one of the most Read the full article…

The waters have been turbulent this year but there is a “safe harbour” ahead. But before we look at that, let’s just see where we’ve been during the last cycle. The last time this trecena was in place (last spring) people were coming into full realization of the fact that we had all entered the Twilight Zone – a surreal Read the full article…
