Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

One word each – Yes or No – that’s all they had. Those who voted yes had made up their minds long before the Ford vs. Kavanaugh hearing, long before the sham, flash-in-a-pan FBI investigation. Those who had enough gumption and integrity to vote No had the support of millions of Americans, including over 2400 law professors who were represented in a letter delivered to the US Senate on Oct. 4th that stated that it was their view that Kavanaugh did not have the judicial temperament to sit in the highest court of the land. Similarly, a statement from the National Council of Churches (representing some 100,000 congregations and 45 million churchgoers across 40 denominations) called for the withdrawal of his nomination.

Prior to the deciding votes being cast on the last day of this past trecena large numbers of anti-Kavanaugh rallies and candlelight vigils took place across the country, and hundreds were arrested for attempting to voice their concerns. And so ended the last trecena, a trecena that churned up and brought to light some of the most unfathomable examples of unscrupulous behaviour, blatant self-interest, and outright abuses of power at the highest levels that surpassed anything that could ever have been imagined.

And now comes the Kib’ trecena, with its work cut out for it, as is often the case. With the first day of this trecena representing the “initiation of the restoration of order” (with Kib’ often symbolized by a vulture that is tasked with “cleaning up” after some kind of carnage), this is a theme that continues its influence throughout this time frame. And as past events have shown, this is a 13-day period that can foment “new thought”, and shifts towards “new kinds of action”, sometimes involving revisions to earlier plans or reactions to major recent events. As happened last time (last January) the first day of this Kib’ trecena coincided with the first anniversary of Trump’s inauguration, with an official shut-down of the U.S. due to the inability of lawmakers to reach a deal as to how to fund the government. It was the first modern government shutdown with both Congress and the White House controlled by the same party. It was up to the Kib’ trecena to find a solution.

Statement of dedication from March On

At the same time as this situation was underway millions of women across North America and around the globe were taking part in the 2nd annual Women’s March as they denounced Trump’s policies on such things as immigration, racial issues, and healthcare; voiced their solidarity with regard to the #MeToo movement, and stood up for human rights and women’s rights. It was a gargantuan mobilization that is currently working towards a “massive march to the polls” next month, and forward to the 2020 election. Given what has just happened in the US Senate this movement has been “nuclearized”. As former CIA investigator Phil Houston put it, this has helped to “galvanize a constituency, likely led by women, that will have a political impact that’s difficult to fully fathom. It will nuclearize the #MeToo movement, and no one should fool himself into believing that the fallout will blow away anytime soon.” “Every vote matters” will continue to be a rallying cry for a long time to come!

“These are the times that try men’s souls . . .” written in 1776 by “Common Sense” author Thomas Paine [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

Historically there has often been a strong emphasis on “restoring order” or “getting down to business” during this energy frame, as could be seen in 1776 when the first edition of Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” was published under this influence. In 1983 the terrifying movie “The Day After” was televised under this influence, which shocked 100 million people (including President Ronald Reagan) into the realization of the consequences of a nuclear war. Exactly five cycles later, on One Kib’ in 1987, President Reagan challenged President Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. In 2009 this was the energy in place when President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev mutually agreed to reduce nuclear arsenals, which set the course to replace the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. And then, of course, there was One Kib’ in 2010, the historic day when The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was signed into law by President Obama.

During this time frame the emphasis leans towards such things as transmutation, ingenuity, and practicality, which frequently can be triggered by dramatic events that demand change. During this energy sequence there is often an emphasis on duality, sometimes involving paired events or paired ideas struggling to maintain equilibrium. At the present time the emphasis appears to be on “opposition” as the forces of corruption, abuse of power, and wide spread self-interest attempt to dig in their heels while those aligned with truth, justice, freedom, and human rights engage in a mighty battle, the consequences of which can have enormous repercussions.

This kind of “teetering” between two polarities is reflective of the “sun close to the earth” or “fire in the earth” kinds of forces associated with the patron energies of this period, energies that have been known to foment havoc for the purpose of transmutation, often as part of a push towards the birthing of a new type of order.

At the present time, with moral and ethical issues running rampant in the White House and in the halls of Congress, with US midterm elections looming, and with ideologies, interests, and values so starkly differentiated between the two political parties, the dualities at play have never been so visible or so deeply felt. And it is not just in the US where these kinds of tensions are at a fever pitch. As this trecena opens about 147 million voters in Brazil head for the polls within a political context marked by a rocky economy, recent high-profile corruption scandals, and worsening crime. During these critical times there is a great deal at stake, and massive numbers of people are being called upon to make critical decisions that are going to radically change peoples’ lives.

In the past one of the most vivid manifestations of this duality in action was the destruction of the twin towers of the World Trade Center in 2001 when hit by two planes, orchestrated by forces that were in stark opposition to what was represented by those towers. As everyone is aware, that was a world-shifting event, and massive changes in national and international security have come into being as a result of the fiery forces that were in motion at that time.

In December of 2015 these were the kinds of forces that were in play at the time of the intense negotiations taking place in Paris as 196 nations worked to develop and approve an historic global accord to fight climate change, signalling an end to the fossil fuel era. This was seen as a decisive point in time as they committed, for the first time, to a universal agreement that has the goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions and limiting temperature rises. The opposition came in the form of the decision by the Trump administration to have the US become the lone hold-out, the only country that did not agree to be part of that accord.

A “busy bee” kind of time

However, despite the dualities that are often highly overt, this trecena can often manifest as a real “work horse” kind of time frame, with strong emphasis on industriousness and “getting down to business”, all oriented around transmutation, as symbolized by the BEES that are so strongly associated with Kib’s energy. During this time there is often a lot of “clean-up” needed, often associated with some sort of catastrophe. Given what has just happened in Washington, and the mess that has been exposed, people now have a much clearer sense of what is needed, at many levels. And then there are the dire needs associated with natural disasters, as in the devastation of whole villages in Indonesia due to the recent tsunami. So undoubtedly this will be a very “busy bee” kind of time frame, especially as people attempt to sort out the question of “where do we go from here”?

Fortunately there are a number of days of celebration within the midst of it all, including celebrations of “resistance” and even “restoration of order” kinds of days such as the UN’s International Day for Disaster Reduction (Oct. 13th) and the UK’s Conflict Resolution Day (Oct. 18th). In addition to observing Thanksgiving at this time, a good many Canadians will also be happily commemorating the legalization of cannabis.

With the Kib’ trecena often revolving around the theme of “practicality”, with Kib’ often providing the impetus to “think differently” in order to address challenges, it is not unusual to see significant changes in direction at this time. Significantly, this was the trecena during which U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller assumed office to oversee the Russia investigation a couple of cycles ago, which seemed to signal that, at least some measure of “common sense” had returned in at least one department. Chances are that there may be important new developments in that regard as this trecena unfolds.

So, as tense as things are at the moment, it may be helpful to keep in mind that this particular time frame does hold the potential to engender glimmers of light, as old patterns go through the process of change and new imperatives come into view. With its emphasis on such things as illumination, ingenuity, vigilance, forgiveness, and even practicality, this trecena can provide important opportunities for the formulation of viable approaches to dealing with pressing, critical matters. During this current time frame these are the energies that will come into play:

1 Kib’ (Oct. 7th) – the “initiation” of the transmutation force that leads towards the
restoration of order – one cycle since the MARCH ON demonstrations across the US
and around the globe, and one cycle since the historic U.S. government shut down.
Currently this is the day for the first round of the highly polarized presidential elections in Brazil, which includes elections for over 1600 positions.

2 Kab’an (Oct. 8th ) – a “dynamic” type of energy related to the earth, or “earth
movement”, coinciding at this time with the New Moon, with Thanksgiving Day in
Canada and with Columbus Day in the US, a day that is being celebrated more and
more as Native American Day or Indigenous Peoples’ Day (see also Oct. 12th)

3 Etz’nab’ (Oct. 9th) – the “activation” of a sparkling, “knife-edged” type of energy
that can dazzle, shock, and/or begin a separation process. Two cycles since Emmanuel Macron won the election in France with a 65.5% majority, to become the youngest ever French president (at age 39) and the first independent for decades.

4 Kawak (Oct. 10th) – a “defining” type of energy aligned with “storm”, representative of the sun working together with the energy of intense rain, which can sometimes manifest as a “storm of compassion”. This was the energy in place when the UN climate change talks resumed in 2017, with a focus on how to implement the Paris Agreement. Currently this energy coincides with the UN’s World Mental Health Day, with the start of the 2 day World Summit AI in Amsterdam; and with Party Foundation Day in North Korea, a celebration of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea in 1945, an annual public holiday that includes mass events and military parades. One of the five key energies at the centre of the Aztec Sun Stone.

5 Ajaw (Oct. 11th) – the “blessing of enlightenment”, coinciding at this time with the second day of World Summit AI, with the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child;
and with the UN’s World Sight Day. Two cycles since the controversial firing of FBI director James Comey, on the same day as Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to protect the Paris Climate Change agreement. Currently this is the date set for the New York Supreme Court to hear motions in state attorney general Barbara Underwood’s civil lawsuit against Trump, his three eldest children, and the Trump Foundation pertaining to allegations that Trumpf ran his foundation in “persistent violation” of state and federal law. This is also the day when Singapore Airlines is scheduled to launch the world’s longest commercial flight – a marathon 19 hour Airbus A350- 900ULR flight between Singapore and New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport.

In ancient Mesoamerican mythology this is the energy associated with Xochipilli’s
birthday, a day associated with the arts, beauty and games.

6 Imix (Oct. 12th) – an “everywhere” type of energy associated with “birth”, which can often bring chaos as some new order of being is manifested, coinciding at this time with the commemoration of Día de la Raza (“day of the race”) that celebrates the heritage, colonization, and cultural diversity of Latin America in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela, where it is also known as the Día de la Resistencia Indigena (Day of Indigenous Resistance) as a tribute to indigenous peoples’ resistance to European infiltration. In Spain this day is celebrated as Hispanic Day, a national public holiday.

Night of Camp David (1965) by Fletcher Knebel, about a president of the US who may be insane.

One cycle since January of this year when, due to nuclear threats, climate change, and related issues associated with the Trump administration, scientists moved the “Doomsday Clock” forward by 30 seconds, to 2 min. to midnight, the closest it’s been to catastrophe since 1953 when the US and the Soviet Union detonated their first
thermonuclear bombs.

This marks 24 Tzolk’in cycles since the terrorist attack on, and demolition of, the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York. This was also the energy in place back in 1965 when The New York Times posted a review of Fletcher Knebel’s book titled “Night of Camp David” with its cover question being “What Would Happen if the President of the USA went Stark-Raving Mad?”, with its central theme being “the derogation of power”.

7 Ik’ (Oct. 13th) – “self-generating” wind/breath/spirit, coinciding at this time with Astronomy Day, with the UN’s International Day for Disaster Reduction, and with the UN’s World Migratory Bird Day.

8 Ak’b’al (Oct. 14th) – a “resurrection” type of energy associated with “temple” or
“house”, and deep esoteric mysteries, at the time of a conjunction between the Moon
and Saturn. The energy under which the first National Women’s Day was celebrated
in the U.S. (in 1909).

9 K’an (Oct. 15th) – representative of “outwardly-projecting” longevity in association
with germination, as when the Hubble Space Telescope was deployed in 1990 after its launch the day before. As Leonard Nimoy’s Maya birthday, this energy could also
translate as “Live Long and Prosper”.

10 Chikchan (Oct. 16th) – a Burner Day associated with “Foundational Lifeforce,
Liberation, and Higher Consciousness”, currently coinciding with World Food Day

11 Kimi (Oct. 17th) – “inspirational” new foundations, on the UN’s International Day for
the Eradication of Poverty, on the day when cannabis becomes legal in Canada. At
this time this energy coincides with China’s Double Ninth (Chongyang) Festival, aka Height Ascending Festival or Chrysanthemum Festival. This is the day when many will visit the graves of ancestors to pay respects and to clean the stones. As chrysanthemums are considered to have cleansing qualities these flowers are also
prominent at this time. This is also known as Seniors’ Day, as the Chinese pronunciation for the word “nine” is similar to that for the word “forever”, symbolizing longevity.

This marks four cycles since 196 nations voted (in 2015) to approve the historic global accord (the Paris Accord) to fight climate change, signalling an end to the fossil fuel era. Currently at this time there is a conjunction between the Moon and Mars (Oct. 17-18)

12 Manik’ (Oct. 18th) – a “gathering together” type of energy associated with
reciprocity, this time in conjunction with the UK’s Anti-Slavery Day and Conflict
Resolution Day, and with the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills in B.C.

13 Lamat (Oct. 19th) – “transformational star”, an intense “heralding” type of force, this time coinciding with the tentative date for the launch of the ESA-JAXA BepiColombo satellites on a mission to the planet Mercury.

Two cycles since U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller assumed office to oversee the
Russia investigation, on the same day as Congressman Al Green from Texas became
the first member of Congress to take the floor and call for the impeachment of Trump based on obstruction of justice (after the firing of James Comey a few days earlier). Democrats wanted him to hold off until more evidence was gathered. They should have REAMS by now!!

Maya Calendar anniversary of the energy under which The Dawes Act was passed (131 years ago as of this past February), which caused American Indian groups to lose a collective 90 million acres of reservation land.
