White bookended by white, this is a trecena that begins and ends with important “spirit-oriented” energies that call for attention. It begins with Kimi, the great “foundational” force that can say “enough is enough – let’s bring things back to basics” so that restoration and renewal can begin.
The skeletal imagery that pertains to the first day of this time frame provides the reminder that there often needs to be a “letting go” of burdens and restrictions before rebuilding can begin. Along with this there is often an “acknowledgement of ancestors” aspect (part of the “white” symbolism associated with this energy), that includes the honouring of important knowledge and ideals that may have been forgotten. It is the return to such basics that can provide an important genesis point for regeneration.
We begin this trecena just a few days after the massive release, on an Eight Ajaw day of enlightenment, of millions of files that reveal offshore tax havens used by hundreds of high profile people, to the tune of $32 trillion in secret accounts. The implications of this information leakage are just beginning to be explored, but already there are calls for the resignations of several heads of state in various countries.
With the first day of this trecena coinciding with a ceasefire in Yemen, to be followed a week later by peace talks in Kuwait, such actions are right on schedule. Fittingly, this trecena also prompts a recall of the futility of war, as the third day of this period marks the 99th anniversary of the conclusion of the Battle of Vimy Ridge during World War I, and the eighth day recalls the energy that was in place eighty years ago at the unveiling of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, which was attended by 100,000 people, one for every Canadian soldier who fought in the battle.
The process of going “back to source” has, at times, brought forth many world-shattering events during this trecena, as in the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand in 1914, that precipitated World War I, one of the most horrific wars in history. In 1989 the Exxon Valdez oil tanker spill off the coast of Alaska took place during this trecena, becoming one of the world’s most devastating human-caused environmental disasters, with the death of untold numbers of birds, animals, and marine species. In 2010 this trecena brought the dreadful cave-in at a copper and gold mine in Chile that left 33 miners trapped and fighting for their lives nearly 2300 ft. underground. And then – the following April – this trecena laid the foundations for the “Arab Spring” with the eruption of massive protest demonstrations in areas such as Yemen, Libya, Morocco, Syria, and other places in the Middle East.
As difficult as the “jerking back to foundations” forces can be at times, there is often much promise contained within many events, as seen in the signing of the Treaty of Versailles between Germany and the Allies in 1919, after the conclusion of World War I. Two cycles ago the opening day of this trecena coincided with the illumination of a nine mile line of 8,000 helium-filled balloons in Berlin at the start of the weekend that marked the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Representing “hope for a world without walls”, those balloons were released on Three Lamat (a Venus day) at the end of the weekend, on the same day as a bright “fireball” meteor (a meteor brighter than Venus) with a long tail flashed across the sky near San Antonio, Texas. As we head into this energy zone we see the battle for votes heating up in New York state, with 291 delegates up for grabs in the Democratic Primary. With that primary coinciding with a 10 Men Burner Day this promises to be a day of great significance.
The final day of this trecena is a powerful force that can be quite dazzling and attention getting, as it was seven cycles ago at the time of the royal wedding in the U.K., on the same day as massive anti-government protests were taking place across Syria (in April of 2011). Five cycles ago this energy coincided with the onslaught of Super Typhoon Jelawat that struck Okinawa and Japan’s main island of Honshu, and two cycles ago states of emergency were declared in ten New York counties due to an enormous dump of snow from the blizzard the day before. Last August this 13 Etz’nab’ energy coincided with the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in the U.S.
There is a strong “discrimination” aspect to this 13 Etz’nab’ energy that comes in on the last day of this Kimi trecena, with its “knife edge” quality having the power to dramatically “shape” situations or bring things to a halt, as when time itself was “rearranged” under this influence in 1582 as the Gregorian calendar came into effect in several European countries. This is a force that can trigger significant changes in state, including the ignition of whole new ways of thinking. In 1473 the last day of this trecena brought Nicolaus Copernicus into this world, an individual who literally changed the axis of “reality” during his lifetime when he formulated a heliocentric model of the universe with the Sun at the centre rather than the Earth. This provided a revolutionary new “baseline” for thinking and being. And now, almost 550 years later, this same 13 Etz’nab’ energy will be in place at the time of the signing of the historic global accord to fight climate change, an agreement that has the potential to profoundly affect the ways in which humans think about, and interact with, the natural world.
As this trecena begins there are some significant weather warnings being issued, which is not surprising as some of history’s largest storms have coincided with this time frame, including the humungous Carrington solar superstorm event of 1859 that impacted Earth, and Superstorm Nuri that slammed into Alaska’s Aleutian Islands on One Kimi in 2014. This enormous storm not only changed the course of the jet stream but also created a massive polar vortex that brought freezing temperatures to Canada and the lower 48 states throughout the trecena, in the first big chill of the winter. At that time it truly stripped things down to “bare bones”, which is part of the Kimi metaphor.
So if storms do come in this time through, it will just be a reminder of the need to “step back” and regroup, so that restrictions can be released and restoration and renewal can be initiated. Again, this presents an opportunity to clean out whatever is not wanted or needed, to give concerted thought to what IS wanted, and to set up new foundations for what you want to rejuvenate or bring into your life. During this time frame these are the energies that will come into play.
1 Kimi (April 10th) – the “initiation” of “death/return to Source”/foundations, on the day when the ceasefire in Yemen is scheduled to begin. This day also marks the closing of the hugely successful “David Bowie Is” touring exhibition at the Groninger Museum in The Netherlands. It is also the day of the leadership vote at the NDP Convention in Edmonton.
2 Manik’(April 11th) – a dynamic type of energy aligned with the idea of reciprocity; the energy that brought forth a major coronal mass ejection from the sun in 2010
3 Lamat (April 12th) – the “activation” of the “bright star” heralding energy, aligned with leadership; as was in place at the launch of OSO 1, the first astronomy satellite that gathered solar flare data (launched in 1962). Two cycles ago it coincided with the release of those 8,000 illuminated balloons in Berlin. Maya birth energy of the legendary Tony Bennett who will celebrate his 90th birthday in four months. Also the Maya birth energy of the phenomenal Joe Cocker who passed on just before Christmas in 2014. This day also marks the 99th anniversary of the conclusion of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on a 9 Lamat day during World War I.4 Muluk (April 13th ) – a “defining” day associated with the shape-shifting energy of water
5 Ok (April 14th) – the “blessing of love”, also associated with fire, protection, guidance, and justice; the energy in place when the “solar tsunami” from a coronal mass ejection hit Earth in 2010. On its last appearance this energy coincided with the ignition of the fierce Rocky fire in northern California that burned throughout the rest of the trecena, destroying 43 residences. It was also a record-breaking day for heat in cities such as Toronto and Ottawa.
6 Chuwen (April 15th) – a “six directions” type of energy aligned with creativity and play, but sometimes associated with the unexpected, as was in place when the European Space Agency successfully landed Philae on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014 in the first-ever controlled landing on a comet nucleus. At this time this energy coincides with Global Youth Service Day and the opening of the 33rd Weifang International Kite Festival. This festival is said to have roots in China’s Pure Brightness Festival, with its spring tradition of honoring ancestors, caring for gravesites, and flying kites to banish back luck.
7 Eb’ (April 16th) – a “self-generating stream-of-consciousness” type of energy; a revitalizing force representative of a fertile “mid-point” to the trecena. This could be a turning point towards the opening up of new possibilities.
8 B’en (April 17th) – the “resurrection” of personal authority, this time coinciding with a conjunction between the moon and Jupiter. A Maya anniversary of the unveiling of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France in 1936, with 100,000 people in attendance – one for every Canadian soldier who fought in the battle.
9 Ix (April 18th) – an “outwardly projecting” type of energy often associated with deep mysteries; events that take place under this influence can have long range implications. At this time this energy coincides with the start of the Peace Talks in Kuwait, with the 120th Boston Marathon, and with the 110th anniversary of the great 8.25 San Francisco earthquake in 1906 that left about 250,000 homeless after some 29,000 buildings burned during the destruction of some 500 square blocks in the city
10 Men (April 19th) – “foundational Higher Vision” – a Burner Day aligned with “taking the fire” in conjunction with the “high vision” of the Eagle; this is strong energy that has the potential to be quite explosive but can also open up far-reaching possibilities. This is the day of the consequential New York Primary with its 291 Democratic delegates.11 Kib’ (April 20th) – an energy that can be either change-oriented or “inspirational”, often aligned with shedding a kind of “first light” on things, as when the first proton-proton collisions recorded by the Large Hadron Collider took place under this influence in 2009.
12 Kab’an (April 21st) – a “grouping together” type of energy associated with movement – specifically “Earth movement”, making it another powerful energy associated with moving new ideas forward, coinciding at this time with Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday.
13 Etz’nab’ (April 22nd) – “transformational flint”, this time in conjunction with Earth Day at the time of the Full Moon and the Lyrid meteor shower. This is the day for the signing of the historic global accord to fight climate change (the Paris Climate Change Agreement).
