As September begins and this Ik’ trecena accompanies the start of a new work-school season, we find the numerical forces of the trecena absolutely in synch with the first 13 days of this month. That is rare but it does act as a memory enhancement for keeping those numerical powers in mind.

This is the trecena that is traditionally associated with Ehécatl, the “Wind/Breath/Spirit” form of the great Feathered Serpent that was often seen in ancient Mesoamerica as a portal to the heavens. One of the most prominent symbols associated with Ehécatl was a duck-billed mask, representative of the wind that blows in all directions. The fact that Ehécatl is a variant of the great Feathered Serpent Quetzalcóatl (known as Kukulcan to the Maya), is also significant since serpentine energy has long been associated with medicine, alchemy, and the healing arts. As shown in the trecena image, the duck-billed Ehécatl represents the first day of this period, which is thought to influence all the rest.

This time frame was thought to be under the overall patronage of Chantico, the Goddess of Terrestrial Fire, associated with the warmth and nourishment of the hearth fire. As the protector of “home fires”, Chantico is associated with “high magic”, earthly treasures, domesticity, and even volcanoes. According to legend, one of the creator deities turned her into a dog because she could not resist adding paprika to something she ate. And just like a dog that brings warmth, love, and protection to a home, Chantico provides the reminder of the importance of looking towards things that can inspire and uplift, and even to watch for miracles that can unfold even within the worst possible contexts.

Most certainly an abundance of miracles is needed in Nepal as rescue efforts continue in the search to find thousands who went missing in the flood disaster that destroyed so many villages and swept away so many people during the last trecena. It was highly unfortunate that the rain and water that was so badly needed in so many places turned into such a destructive torrent in that region.

Overall, with so many on-going tragedies still unresolved in this world, it is looking like it will take more than a few prayers and miracles to bring forth any kind of return to stability, or to bring an end to the insanity – particularly in places such as Kyiv, which has been under relentless aerial attack from Russia over the past few weeks. Chantico will have her work cut out for her as she helps to protect and fortify Ukraine from this unspeakable aggression.

During this period it is not unusual for strong winds to factor prominently in world events, with the mid-point of this time frame being particularly prone to tornadoes. It is also highly likely that the “winds of protest” will continue to blow furiously as people continue their push towards accountability in governance in many regions, and battle against formidable odds in efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to areas in dire need, as in war-ravaged Gaza and Sudan.

In addition, with so many “hurricanes” relating to change and protest taking place in the U.S. and globally, the emphasis during this period will definitely be on “breath and spirit” as the battle for human rights and freedoms continues to rage on in many parts of the world. In various parts of the US large numbers of local groups are putting up strong resistance against the creation of “detention” centres for people (including children and families) being snatched off streets by federal agents. Similarly, citizens are working hard to push back against election interference in primary elections and in the forcoming Midterm elections. As the first half ot this trecena encompasses the week leading up to Labour Day at this time, many are using this period to plan for the forthcoming fall season, which will include those elections. As usual, Indivisible is serving as “activism central” and providing training programs to help protect voting rights. A general kickoff call for its training program is scheduled for the second day of this period. The need for this type of action continues as the threats from the authoritarian White House continue.

Over the past cycle people from all stratas of society (including some of the “reddest” states in the US) have become more and more determined to follow in the footsteps of Brazil, when Brazilians demanded accountability for crimes committed by former president Bolsonaro. Just over one cycle ago he was tried and convicted for crimes such as attempting to stage a coup, involvement in an armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, damage characterized by violence and a serious threat against the state’s assets, and deterioration of listed heritage. Sound familiar? He is now serving a 27-year sentence. As Brazil’s supreme court justice Cármen Lúcia Antunes Rocha stated bluntly with regard to authoritarianism:

Dictatorship kills. Dictatorship lives off death – not just the death of society and of democracy, but of human beings made of flesh and bone who are tortured, mutilated and murdered.

Over the past two cycles in particular the truth of that statement has played out vividly, in many areas. It can be seen in the suffering that the people of Ukraine have had to endure as the brutal Russian dictator seems to have nothing better to do than to continue hurtling explosive devices at civilian populations in Ukrainian cities. It can be seen in the on-going Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as the Israeli prime minister’s dictatorial barbarism continues to torment civilians in Gaza and the West Bank. And it can be seen vividly in the US as the fully corrupt Trump administration continues its campaign of destruction on every front, including the destruction of government buildings and organizations; the destruction of societal and democratic norms; the torpedoing of international relations and alliances; the destruction of individual lives and livelihoods, through its vile ICE operation and its debilitating, destabilizing, policies; through the madness of its senseless and pointless wars – including trade wars; and through the madness of the blatantly ridiculous and shameful “decrees” that emanate from the warped, demented gangster who pretends to be king.  Terms such as “malignant stupidity” and “unhinged madman” are frequently heard in descriptions of his behaviour. As Justice Rocha stated – “Dictatorship kills.”

As this trecena opens there will be 63 days remaining until the midterm elections – and Republicans are sinking fast. If Democrats can take both the House and the Senate during those elections, there will be a seismic shift in power. As people continue waking up, finding their voices, strengthening their backbones, and preparing to exact accountability, the orange felon’s approval rating keeps sinking lower and lower. Remember that Brazil has already shown that dictators CAN be OUSTED!! Ukrainians, as well, have shown extraordinary resilience and adaptability as they continue to push back against the unfathomable horrors being inflicted on them by the madman in Russia, and Ukraine’s European allies are allocating billions to provide further support.

While the “great darkness” continues at this time, there is a sense that a shift is “in the air”. It feels like the great feathered serpent, which is so closely aligned with this Wind-Breath-Spirit time frame, is up to something – as if it is getting ready to upend the darkness. Will it bring sudden upendings – or will this period provide glimpses of what is to come? Without doubt, many forces aligned with wind, breath, spirit, communication, healing, alchemy, and perhaps even the traditional “magical arts” will be activated during this period, and the winds of change and protest will continue to blow strong. Keep in mind that in traditional Mesoamerican mythology the great feathered serpent was highly aligned with both cyclical regeneration and justice, and he is now on alert and gearing up for something big! (Hint: Midterm election day in the US will be on a day highly aligned with Quetzalcóatl.)

During this period the wizardry of both Harry Potter and the Star Trek empire will also be celebrated in a variety of ways – all of which will be uplifting and magical! Here are the energies that are coming into play:

One Ik’ (Sept. 1st) – the “initiation of wind/breath/spirit”. In ancient Mesoamerica this was seen as a day when offerings were made to the great Feathered Serpent deity Quetzalcóatl, representative of the winds, whirlwinds, and life itself.

And indeed, this is a trecena where severe wind-related events are not uncommon, as tornadoes, blizzards, hurricanes, and other forms of damaging winds show up frequently under this influence. But “communication storms” are also not unusual at this time – and currently there is a whirlwind of excitement unfolding around SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA as BTS begins its already sold-out Arirang engagements in California as part of its gargantuan world tour.

Tying with the “magical” aspects of this trecena, for Harry Potter fans, this is Back to Hogwarts’ Day, one of the special days marking the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. If you happen to be at London’s King’s Cross Station on this day, watch out for Happy Potter fans (or Hogwarts’ students) vying to board the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 ¾ as they return for a new term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hogwarts Express train announcements, however, have been discontinued. Nevertheless, this special day has grown into a global celebration of all things Harry Potter. Special screenings of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, to mark the 25th anniversary of the film, began a few days earlier and continue through to Sept. 3rd.

This is the first day of National Service Dog Month, which should please Chantico. Founded in 2008, the related organization was established to raise awareness and support for guide dog and service dog schools that do so much to provide assistance for people in need and for the amazing animals that help them.

This is also the 36th anniversary of the coming into force of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child, something that the thugs in the White House and the ICE minions who carry out their vile orders need to brush up on, as thousands of children have been caught up in their brutal assaults on civilians in the U.S.

This energy is marking the 87th Gregorian anniversary of the outbreak of WWII, and the 103rd Gregorian anniversary of the “Great Kanto Earthquake” and fire, a 7.9 earthquake (one of the worst in history) that devastated Tokyo, Yokohama, and the surrounding region in 1923, killing an estimated 105,000 people. Hundreds of thousands of homes were destroyed.

2 Ak’b’al (Sept. 2nd) – a “dynamic” type of energy associated with the temple or “house” of deep esoteric mysteries, which has sometimes manifested as “darkness” – as in power outages, often from a strong wind event the day before – or even in the revealing of “deep, dark secrets” or actions. This is the day for Indivisible’s General Election Kickoff Call.

Two cycles ago this was the energy in place when more than 1,900 members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine signed an open letter warning Americans about the “danger” of the Trump administration’s attacks on science. The letter came amid the administration’s relentless assault on US scientific institutions which has included threats to private universities, federal grant cancellations and ideological funding reviews, mass government layoffs, resignations and censorship. The last time this was in place (last December), that same administration announced its intent to dismantle the National Science Foundation-funded National Center for Atmospheric Research, or NCAR, one of the world’s premier institutions for studying the atmosphere in all its variety and complexity, and its effects on human activity, which employed about 830 people. This was later blocked by a federal judge.

3 K’an (Sept. 3rd) – an “activation” type of energy associated with both germination and opulence – an energy that can often have a kind of “reckless” edge to it.

This was the energy in place at the time of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion off the coast of Louisiana in 2010, which triggered the largest oil spill disaster in U.S. history.

This is marking two cycles since Senator Cory Booker delivered a marathon filibuster in the U.S. Senate, where he spoke for over 25 hours straight, in an effort to “capture the moral imagination of the nation”. This was a monumental effort to help people find the courage and strength to push back against the atrocities taking place at the highest levels of government, such as the thousands of cuts to Health and Human Services across the country. That was the day when Susan Crawford won the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, which was seen as a significant victory and “turning point” in favour of Democrats as it enabled Wisconsin’s highest court to retain its liberal majority.

When this energy was in place last December, journalist Chris Whipple reported on his interviews with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, which revealed how delusional, out of touch and out of control the monster in the White House really is. Susie described him as having an “alcoholic’s personality”. As Chris noted, this was a moment of “generational crisis”. As he put it: “we are at a generational inflection point”.

On that same day there was an 80-100 vehicle traffic pileup during a severe winter storm on the Prairies. Highways were closed across much of southern Manitoba, and heavy snow and gusty winds made “safe travel impossible” across much of south central Alberta and Saskatchewan, at the same time as a major windstorm wreaked havoc across B.C.’s south coast.

4 Chikchan (Sept. 4th) – the “defining” of Lifeforce, a Burner Day associated with “running with the fire”, in conjunction with Quetzalcóatl connection with Liberation and Higher Consciousness, now marking 13 cycles since June 2017 when thousands of protestors took part in “March for Truth” rallies in more than 150 cities across the U.S. and around the world, calling for a fair and impartial investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. This also marks two full cycles since the start of what the Wall St. Journal called “dumbest trade war in history”, after the dumpster’s pronouncement that the U.S. was placing “reciprocal tariffs on countries throughout the world”. As the Wall Street Journal and many others have pointed out, “Tariffs are Taxes” – which the Supreme Court later confirmed. Billions had to be returned, but then, not long ago, the felon declared yet another trade war.

Four cycles ago this energy was in place when an unprecedented trial began in Colorado to examine the “pivotal” legal question of the investigation and enforcement of the 14th Amendment’s disqualification clause, which bars anyone from office who took an oath to support the U.S. Constitution but then “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or [has] given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” If integrity, honour, and courage had prevailed, and that clause had been upheld, the US (and the world) would be in a significanly better state than it is today.

This was the Maya energy in place in 2011 when Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asked the U.N. to recognize a state for the Palestinians and submitted an official request to the U.N. for full membership. Currently, the State of Palestine has been recognized as a sovereign state by 157 of the 193 member states of the United Nations. Problematically, the United States has consistently blocked Palestine from becoming a full member.

Currently this is the 47th anniversary of the entering into force of the UN’s Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women as an international treaty, after being adopted by the UN General Assembly in December of 1979.

This is New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Maya birth energy.

5 Kimi (Sept. 5th) – a “precision” type of energy associated with “absolute foundations”, an energy that can sometimes be seen as a “game changing” force, as it can bring things right down to the barest of essentials, prior to regeneration. But that can also mean bringing things down to “pure spirit”, which can be that “game changing” turning point.

With the US midterm elections coming up soon, note that it has been two cycles exactly since a coalition of 19 Democratic attorneys-general filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing that the orange felon’s executive order (in March of last year) seeking to overhaul the nation’s elections was both illegal and unconstitutional. The lawsuit accused the dumpster of overstepping his authority with that action, which, they said, amounted to an ”unconstitutional, antidemocratic, and un-American attempt to impose sweeping voting restrictions across the country”. [Based on that lawsuit, that executive order was permanently blocked by a federal court several months later.]

In 2018 the energy of 5 Kimi was in place when Democrats won back the US House of Representatives in the midterm elections and made history with a record number of women winning seats in Congress. Time for them to do it again!!

This also marks one cycle exactly since the deadline date for the DoJ to release the infamous Epstein files. And yet – millions remain hidden or redacted, and now the convicted sex offender’s lawyer is the head of the DoJ. In what kind of an upside down world could this have been allowed to happen – a thoroughly corrupt one, as everyone has seen with their own eyes!

Currently this is the UN’s International Day of Charity, and the Catholic feast day devoted to Mother Teresa (now Saint Mother Teresa) who transitioned on this day in 1997, and was canonized in 2016. In India, this is Teachers’ Day.

This would have been rock star Freddie Mercury’s 80th birthday (he was born on a 9 Kimi in 1946).

6 Manik’ (Sept. 6th) – the energy of the six directions in conjunction with the reciprocity-oriented (but sometimes “sacrificial”) energy of the deer (traditionally seen as a “carrier for the sun” on Earth), coinciding at this time with the 60th anniversary of the premiere episode of  Star Trek in Canada.

Note that, in 2019, this was the energy in place when the “notorious” phone conversation between the dumpster and then-new Ukraine president Zelenskyy took place in which Zelenskyy was pressured to investigate Hunter Biden’s involvement in Ukraine. This became a focal point for the first impeachment trial against the dumpster, on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Four cycles ago this was in place when the world’s first global artificial intelligence safety summit was held in the UK, to examine the existential threat that many felt was posed by AI. Is anyone feeling any safer in that regard these days?

7 Lamat (Sept. 7th) – “self-generating star” or beacon; a strong “heralding” type of energy, as well as a force that has been historically associated with strong winds (often tornadoes and hurricanes), and other forms of severe weather. Currently this is coinciding with Labour Day in the US and Canada, and the final day for the Burning Man festival.

This energy is marking the 86th Gregorian anniversary of the start of the horrific Blitz in the UK in 1940 – the bombing campaign by Nazi Germany against the UK that lasted for 8 months. How can it be that Palestinians regions and Ukraine are still suffering through similar kinds of attacks, with no clear ceasefires or solutions in sight?

Two cycles ago (in April of 2025) millions of people across all 50 states and in many European cities participated in massive “Hands Off” protest demonstrations against the Trump regime, in the biggest day of demonstrations seen up to that point. The rallies were awash with signs such as: “Make American Normal Again”, and “Morons are Governing America (MAGA)”.

This is the Maya birth energy of William H. Webster, the former FBI and CIA director and member of the American Law Institute for more than five decades, who, prior to passing at the age of 101 last year, was among the legions of people who have said that the dumpster is unfit to be president.

8 Muluk (Sept. 8th) – the “resurrection” of water; strongly aligned with rebirth and “purification”, coinciding with the start of the school year in many places, and the opening of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 81) and General Assembly week, under the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all”. Presided over by His Excellency Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh, this is the week when world leaders will outline their positions and priorities in the context of complex and interconnected global challenges. The UN General Debate will begin on Sept. 22nd.

This is the day when Canada’s counter-tariffs on over 700 American products are set to take effect. Sectors such as steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics – areas which are most impacted by U.S. tariffs – will be targeted.

This is also Star Trek Day, the 60th anniversary of the first airing of the original Star Trek television series on NBC. It was first broadcast two days earlier in Canada. On this 60th anniversary there will be global events celebrating this milestone, including special screenings of restored films and even a Global Vulcan Salute attempt at a Guinness World Record.

In addition this is the fourth anniversary of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II at age 96, and is also Senator Bernie Sanders 85th birthday. Still as feisty as ever, Senator Sanders recently launched a blistering attack on the dumpster, with reference to the corruption and gross incompetencies that continue to spew forth from the White House, calling the dumpster “mentally unstable”, “increasingly out of control”, and “a pathological liar”, as he highlighted the current state of affairs and outlined progress that is being made to counter many of the issues. Happy Birthday Bernie!

9 Ok (Sept. 9th) –an “outwardly-projecting” type of energy associated with love, loyalty, and guidance that can have long lasting influence; a “double-fire” type of energy often aligned with “hearth-fire” or even “heart-fire”. Historically this was seen as the birth energy of Chantico, the Aztec Goddess of Terrestrial Fire who is associated with the warmth and nourishment of the hearth fire, and protection of the “home fires”. In addition to being associated particularly with this day, Chantico serves as the patron of this entire 13-day time frame. As she was seen as having shape-shifting abilities, this daysign was associated with magic, and even sorcery.

This is now marking the fourth anniversary of the first full day of the reign of King Charles III, and the 78th anniversary of the establishment of the DPRK (North Korea).

This is the opening day for New York’s Fashion Week, and the 70th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956.

10 Chuwen (Sept. 10th) – “foundational play”; a creative time-weaving type of force, now coinciding with the opening day for Toronto’s 11-day International Film Festival, its 51st edition, and the opening of Vancouver’s 11-day International Fringe Festival, involving more than 80 shows over 11 days, celebrating its 42nd anniversary this year.

This is also the final day of the Hungry Ghost Festival celebrated in many Chinese communities, when spirits return to the underworld and the “Gates of the Underworld” close. In China this is also Teachers’ Day, an important national holiday.

11 Eb’ (Sept. 11th) – inspirational “animating vitality”, aligned with change and new possibilities, coinciding at this time with Universal Brotherhood Day, on the 25th anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy in New York, in 2001.

The evening brings the start of Rosh Hashanah – meaning “head of the year”, thought to be the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, and the beginning of the Jewish New Year. Also known as the Feast of Trumpets, this is a Jewish High Holy period that runs from the evening of Sept. 11nd to the evening of Sept. 13th.

In 1917 this was the energy in place when, reportedly, the Virgin Mary made her sixth and final appearance to three children at Fatima, supposedly in front of 70,000 people. This event included the “Miracle of the Sun” during which many people saw the sun go through an unusual zigzag movement, at which time (so the story goes) many were cured of afflications.

12 B’en (Sept. 12th) – a double-Quetzalcóatl, lifeforce-oriented type of force aligned with personal authority, now coinciding with the first day of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

It has now been three cycles (780 days) since Israeli prime minister Netanyahu delivered a scathing speech to the U.S. Congress as he defended Israel’s war in Gaza and condemned American protesters. That was when he vowed to press on with the war until “total victory”. Senior Democratic House member Jerry Nadler then issued a withering denunciation of the speech, calling Netanyahu “the worst leader in Jewish history since the Maccabean king who invited the Romans into Jerusalem over 2100 years ago”.

This marks six cycles since a new forward to political reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein’s landmark 1974 book All the President’s Men was released. In it, the writers summarized the Watergate scandal and compared the corruption and deceit employed by Nixon to the dumpster’s first term, particularly his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Ultimately, the reporters surmised that Trump’s corruption “exceeded even Nixon’s imagination”, as they pointed out that the actions of the orange monster and his allies leading up to the Capitol riot were “clearly seditious”, making him “the first seditious president in our history”. And all of that was before he went on to authorize or commit atrocious acts on almost a daily basis, after becoming the First Convicted Felon in that same office.

13 Ix (Sept. 13th) – “transformational Jaguar” – a double transformation type of energy associated with the Jaguar and earth mysteries, now marking two cycles since Ukraine’s European allies announced a record €21bn (£18.2bn) in additional military support for Kyiv as they strengthened their commitment to pushing back against Russian aggesssion.

Over the past two cycles they have worked tirelessly in efforts to bring about an end to that war, including the freezing of €210bn (£185bn/$247bn) of Russian central bank assets held in Europe in order to “keep Russian assets immobilised until Russia ends its war of aggression against Ukraine and compensates for the damage caused”. Tragically, Russian aggression has been more brutal and barbaric than ever in recent weeks and months, even targeting Ukraine’s book production capacity. An estimated 10-12 million books have been lost due to Russian attacks on Ukrainian culture over the past two months. One would think that after 4 ½ years of aggression, with high numbers of casualties and massive destruction on both sides of the conflict, that the Russian aggressor would make some effort to find an off-ramp, but now there is also speculation that Russia could be carrying out such attacks in an effort to test NATO solidarity. However, that alliance is strong, as seen one cycle ago as of 2 Ak’b’al (the second day of this trecena), when 34 European leaders signed a convention to formally create an International Claims Commission for Ukraine. As stated at the time, when peace talks eventually take place, nothing in such talks should be allowed to “become a reward for Russia’s aggression”. At this point the dilemma could use an infusion of insightful “high vision”, a key aspect of the next trecena (Eagle).

Currently this is the 19th anniversary of the UN’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the most comprehensive international instrument on the rights of indigenous peoples. It is also National Pet Memorial Day in the US., and the concluding day of Rosh Hashanah, which ends at nightfall.
