Maya Count Of Days Horoscope

Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

While there were few signs of it at the beginning of the last trecena, apart from many major “firestorms”, the “storm” theme eventually clicked into gear in a big way over the past few days with major cyclones, tornadoes, and destructive hailstorms all being unleashed. And in a large swath of southeastern Ukraine the devastating flooding caused by Russia’s destruction of a large dam on the very first day of that trecena left thousands homeless. Now, as has happened so often in the past, the Eb’ trecena is tasked with the job of dealing with the clean-up required after the “storm” has passed.

Fortunately, the energies associated with this Eb’ trecena tend to be gentler in nature, directed more towards healing, path finding, and revitalization. Indeed, it did not take long for the UK government to bolster its support for Ukraine by rallying relief efforts, and as this trecena opens an emergency convoy of vehicles loaded with flood-fighting equipment, rescue equipment, boats, food, drinking water, and other essentials is on the way to the flooded region to help with clean-up efforts. An international conference dedicated to recovery for Ukraine will be held in London on the third and fourth days of this time frame. Click here for some sense of the scope of the problem, even prior to the flooding.

But it is not just Ukraine that will be dealing with clean-up at this time, as India was hit by major floods from Cyclone Biparjoy, Brazil was hit with a cyclone, and tornadoes wreaked havov in many parts of the southeastern US. For many, new paths and directions will need to be forged in order to rebuild infrastructures, support systems, and lives.

Fortunately this is often a time for miracles as well, as seen on the first day of this trecena in 1985, a week after the devastating 8.1 Mexico City earthquake, when more than a dozen babies were pulled out of the wreckage of a hospital, having survived without nourishment, water, warmth, or human contact for at least seven days. More than 10,000 people were killed during that horrific event, but the discovery of these babies brought hope, as it represented human resiliency and the re-emergence of life, even in the midst of great trauma. At the present time babies are again bringing hope as 707 pregnant women gave birth in the midst of the onslaught of the hurricane in India, so “new life” once again will be providing “hope for the future” even in the midst of calamity.

On political fronts, this trecena has often had a way of bringing forth signs of hope, as it did one cycle ago when the first round of presidential elections in Brazil took place on the first day of this time frame. At that time more indigenous, women, and Black candidates were running for office than ever before, and indeed by the time this round and the second round of voting were over Brazil had a much-needed new leader, with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva vowing to unify the country.

In the US it was the Eb’ trecena that was in place in the summer of 2020 when Joe Biden accepted the nomination as the DNC’s candidate for the 46th president, with Kamala Harris joining him as his vice-presidential running mate, and glimmers of hope began to be seen. Once he was elected, action began to be taken to deal with both the pandemic and the climate crisis, with many important economic and humanitarian programs set in motion since he took office, including providing relief for disaster zones. One cycle ago President Biden visited Puerto Rico and pledged $60 million to help with the rebuilding from the destruction that had been caused by severe storms. On that same day it was reported that Ukraine was making major breakthroughs on the Southern front, recapturing many villages. And that was well before they announced that they were officially beginning a counteroffensive.

From the perspective of Mesoamerican mythology, it is the Aztec Goddess Mayahuel, associated with healing, who was seen, traditionally, as the deity who oversaw this time frame, which often brings some kind of rejuvenating change in direction. Often this is when people start to really address issues in ways that can help new options to open up just when it may have seemed like all has been lost.

Adaptation of the Eb’ trecena from the pre-Columbian Codex Borgia by artist Richard Balthazar (used with permission). The first day (One Eb’) is represented by the little jawbone with grass growing out of it, at the bottom right corner (within the border). Each of the remaining days proceed around the edge from there towards the left, ending with 13 K’an, depicted as a lizard, at the upper left corner. In the centre on the right is the Goddess Mayahuel, rising out of a maguey plant, which has strong medicinal properties. She is the chief patron of this trecena. Click here for an overview of Richard’s various other versions of the same trecena.

Mayahuel, the goddess of maguey, is often shown sitting in the middle of a maguey plant, one of the most sacred plants in ancient Mexico. The sap from this plant was not only made into a drink that was used for important ritual purposes, but it also had strong medicinal qualities. It can be fermented and made into an alcoholic aphrodisiac called pulque, which ties in with the idea of “intoxification and excess” that is sometimes associated with this time frame. Sometimes the sense of new directions or possibilities that are often presented within this time frame can be so “intoxicating” that things can get a little “heady”. While the generative, and often celebratory, nature of these energies in place near the beginning of the trecena often foment “feasting, dancing, and pleasure-seeking” (as noted in ancient observations), a certain amount of caution may be needed to avoid issues that could be created through excess, particularly towards the intense final days of this time frame.

In recent years the energies associated with this trecena have been instrumental in highlighting issues of great concern to humanity, as seen in early 2019, when this trecena brought forth the Global Climate Strike, known as Youth Strike 4 Climate, which was a coordinated global school walkout involving an estimated 1.4 million young people in 2233 cities in 128 countries, in a massive effort to call for political action regarding climate change. Near the end of that same year more than 500,000 young people rallied in Madrid to protest against the lack of speed and lack of progress being taken by world governments in tackling the climate emergency. At that time climate change scientists warned that the world may already have crossed a series of climate tipping points, posing a risk that was seen as “an existential threat to civilisation”. The EU parliament saw this as a significant “inflection point” and so they responded quickly by declaring a global “climate and environmental emergency”, and urged all EU countries to commit to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The last time this was in place, last October, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres again warned that the world is in “a life-or-death struggle” for survival as “climate chaos gallops ahead” and accused the world’s 20 wealthiest countries of failing to do enough to stop the planet from overheating. He said that emissions of global-warming greenhouse gases are at an all-time high and rising, and that it was time for “a quantum level compromise” between rich developed countries that emitted most of the heat-trapping gases and emerging economies that often feel its worst effects. Currently, as this trecena comes into effect, many of the hundreds of out-of-control wildfires that have been burning across Canada have made this the most destructive wildfire season in history, and summer is only just beginning. With the poor air quality reminding many in both the US and Canada about related hazards associated with such fires, this is yet another huge reminder of the overall problem that needs to be addressed on an international basis.

So, once again, as this trecena unfolds, we will be working with strong regenerative forces that have the potential to bring a resurgence of vitality that can help with the regrouping, healing, and creation of the kinds of paths that will be needed in order to restore some sense of equilibrium. As it happens, climate litigation in the U.S. is now entering a new phase so it is possible that important advancements in that regard could be seen in the near future. Here are the energies that are coming into play:

One Eb’ (June 19th) – the “initiation” of “animating vitality”, a refreshing stream-of-consciousness, “find your own path” type of force, which often signals the start of promising new directions, coinciding at this time with Juneteenth in the U.S., known as African American Emancipation Day, the day in 1865 when Union soldiers landed at Galveston with news that the U.S. civil war had ended and that slaves were free. It became a federal holiday in the U.S. in 2021.

Information notice that “all slaves are free”, issued in Galveston on 13 K’an, the last day of this trecena, in 1865.

This is the energy that was in place in 1789 when George Washington was unanimously elected as the first US president. Last year this was in place when Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the first round in the voting that led to him becoming Brazil’s 39th president when he assumed office this past January.

Currently this is the start of National Insect Week in the UK. The issue of declining insects across the planet will likely be an important focus for attention.

See insectweek.org for how to take part

2 B’en (June 20th) – a dynamic type of energy aligned with the “generation” of personal authority, marking five cycles exactly since the EU parliament declared a global “climate and environmental emergency” in response to the warning given the day before by climate change scientists about the “threats to civilization” that are being caused by climate change. That was when the EU parliament urged all EU countries to commit to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

This is World Refugee Day, an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe, hundreds of thousands of whom have been made homeless by Russia’s ruthless attacks against Ukraine, including the tens of thousands from all the towns, villages, and regions that were flooded out when a major dam was destroyed at the beginning of the last trecena.

In London this is the start of the Europe and India Conference on Information Security and Control, and in the state of Odessa in northern India this is the start of Ratha-Yatra, the oldest chariot festival in the world, usually attended by millions of devotees.

This is the indomitable Chita Rivera’s Maya birth energy. She is now 90 years old and still going strong, having just published a new book titled Chita: A Memoir.

3 Ix (June 21st) –the “activation” of transformation, coinciding not only with the Summer Solstice, but also with several very special days including:

  • World Peace and Prayer Day (Honoring Sacred Sites)
  • National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada, the 27th anniversary of the national celebration of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis culture and heritage.
  • World Music Day, celebrated by more than 120 countries, inspired by the Fête de la Musique annual music festival in France. This is a major platform to highlight music in all its diversity, and to help musicians showcase their talents.
  • the UN’s 9th International Day of Yoga, with this year’s theme being “Yoga for Humanity”
  •  the opening of the 5-day Glastonbury Festival in the UK, with its extensive lineup of performers

This is the opening, in London, of the two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023, a followup to earlier efforts, that included development of the Lugano Principles that set a foundation for coordinating international efforts towards reconstruction in Ukraine. Mobilizing emergency assistance for immediate needs will be a major focus at this time.
This is also Prince William’s 41st birthday.

In 1814 this was the energy in place when the Treaty of Chaumont was signed, when the 4 powers that defeated Napoléon Bonaparte (Britain, Austria, Prussia, Russia) all agreed to ally for 20 years to stop France if it ever got too powerful again. It is evident that some similar type of action is now needed to put an end to Russia’s aggression.

This is the scheduled launch date for a classified spy satellite for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.

4 Men (June 22nd) – a “defining” energy related to the “high vision” of the Eagle; a double solar “Burner Day” associated with “running with the fire”, an energy that can sometimes bring a great deal of “firepower”;  the Maya birth energy of former US president John F. Kennedy.

This marks six Tzolk’in cycles since the Youth Strike 4 Climate, a coordinated global school walkout that involved an estimated 1.4 million young people in 2233 cities in 128 countries, in a coordinated global effort to call for political action regarding climate  change, in March of 2019. This was the precursor to the massive #FridaysforFuture demonstrations that took place almost exactly one cycle later.

5 Kib’ (June 23rd) – a “blessing” or “precision” type of energy associated, metaphorically, with the “Vulture’s” ability to fly high, survey, and then “swoop down” to “clean things up”, now coinciding with the final day of NATO’s Air Defender 23 exercises in Europe.

This is the energy influence that was in place at the time of the inauguration of President Abraham Lincoln in 1861. It has now been five cycles since Ursula von der Leyen took over as head of the European Commission, the EU’s top position.

This is National Take Your Dog to Work Day, celebrated in many countries since 1999.

6 Kab’an (June 24th) – a “movement (or earth movement, even “evolutionary movement”) type of energy combined with the “all directions” force of the number six, coinciding at this time with Inti Raymi in Peru, the Inca Festival of the Sun that takes place in Cusco, Peru, when a great ceremony will be held to honour the Sun God and Pachamama (Mother Earth).

This is also Armed Forces Day in the UK and the 73rd anniversary of the US-ROK (South Korea) Alliance. In addition, this is International Fairy Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day in Quebec and the National Day of Quebec, the 42nd anniversary of the appearance of the Virgin Mary at Medjugorje (Bosnia-Hercegovina) to six children in 1981, and rock drummer Mick Fleetwood’s 76th Gregorian birthday.

In addition this is the first anniversary of the US Supreme Court’s highly controversial overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision from 1973, with last June’s decision precipitating a major crisis in terms of abortion rights and access to health care for women.

This day marks three cycles since May of 2021 when WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus commended the Biden administration for supporting global vaccine equity and prioritizing the expansion of vaccine manufacturing and distribution at a critical time in the evolution of the pandemic. That was when U.S. Republican Representative Liz Cheney warned that her party was “at a turning point”, and that Republicans were going to have to decide whether they would choose truth and fidelity to the Constitution or join the dumpster’s crusade to delegitimize and attempt to undo the legal outcome of the 2020 election. Over the past three cycles it became evident that far too many chose the latter, and that the Republican party is fast imploding.

It has now been four cycles since the summer of 2020 when the Senate Intelligence Committee released the 5th and final volume of its report on the Russia investigation, in which it laid out “a stunning web of contacts” between the dumpster, his top election aides, and Russian government officials, in the months leading up to the 2016 election, largely supporting the key findings from the Mueller investigation on Russian interference in the 2016 US election. Since then much, much more corruption has been exposed relating to almost every realm of influence that the dumpster has been associated with. Among many other things he has been charged with multiple counts of fraud, for obstruction of justice, and for violation of the federal Espionage Act, with every indication that other significant charges are pending, particularly with regard to the coup attempt. As of this day four trials have been scheduled for the October-March period, with other dates anticipated.

7 Etz’nab’ (June 25th) –“self-generating flint” – a “knife-edge” type of energy associated with the power of discrimination, coinciding with Toronto’s Pride Parade, and New York’s annual Pride Parade, with this year’s theme being Strength in Solidarity.

This energy is marking five cycles exactly since early December of 2019 when the US House Intelligence Committee released (and voted to pass) the 300-pg. impeachment report, with its conclusion that there was “overwhelming evidence” that the dumpster abused the power of the presidency and obstructed Congress, and that his White House officals and associates knew of the Ukraine scheme. He was impeached by the House of Representatives shortly thereafter.

One cycle after that, during the 2020 DNC, President Obama delivered a scathing rebuke of the dumpster, referring to him as the “reality show president” as he highlighted the dumpster’s monumental failures. Obama’s speech was seen by many as a “dire warning”, and the “declaration of a national emergency” since the dumpster was “on the cusp of destroying democracy itself”. That was almost three years ago, and now we are seeing egregious acts on the part of many Republican members of congress, right inside the U.S. Congress itself!

By “coincidence” (or not) this is the Maya birth energy of the acclaimed Irish poet William Butler Yeats, author the poem The Second Coming, which is frighteningly evocative of what has been happening in the US over the past few years.

Two cycles ago, in January of 2022, this was the energy in place when a massive cyber attack against Ukrainian government websites sounded the alarm about the increased possibility of a Russian military offensive against Ukraine, not long before the actual attack took place.

8 Kawak (June 26th) – “resurrecting storm”, sometimes associated with strong weather or some strong “push” towards enlightenment, coinciding at this time with the last day of the Glastonbury Festival in England. Rituals related to the Hajj, the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, begin in the evening.

This was the energy in place on the final day of the Democratic National Convention in 2020, when Joe Biden accepted the nomination as the DNC’s candidate for president, as he vowed to protect the US. At that time more than 70 former national security officials from multiple Republican administrations, along with former Republican members of Congress, announced that they would support Joe Biden. They were from the former GOP, and not from the ranks of those now untethered from reality.

9 Ajaw (June 27th) – an “outwardly projecting”, double-fire type of force associated with the full sun and “enlightenment”, coinciding with Canadian Multiculturalism Day, which provides opportunities to honour and celebrate cultural diversity in Canada.

This day also marks eight cycles since the massive rally in 2017 that brought the start of the Me Too Movement.

10 Imix (June 28th) – a “source” based energy aligned with birth, coinciding at this time with the 104th Gregorian anniversary of the day in 1919 when the peace document known as The Treaty of Versailles was signed by Germany, officially ending World War I. The Muslim celebration of Eid Al-Adha (“the celebration of the sacrifice”) or Qurbani, will begin in the evening.

11 Ik’ (June 29th) – “inspirational” wind/breath/spirit; the energy that was in place on January 1, 2000 when millions of people celebrated the coming new millennium. This tends to be a point within this trecena when some major announcement or proclamation is made which needs to be heeded. This was the energy in place in Jan. of 2017 when John Dean, former White House counsel under President Nixon, warned that the dumpster was “just getting started” on “trashing the presidency”. At that time Dean predicted that it would all “end in calamity. Even Republicans know this.”

Seven cycles ago, in May of 2019, Special Counsel Robert Mueller completed his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and submitted his report to the DoJ. As as result of that report there were 37 indictments in 22 months (including 13 Russian nationals, 3 Russian companies, and 12 Russian intelligence officers), with a number of convictions, guilty pleas and sentences.

Currently, this is the opening day for the European Council meeting, and the opening day for the Carnaval de Veracruz, called “The World’s Most Cheerful” carnival, and the largest in Mexico.

12 Ak’b’al (June 30th) a “grouping together” type of energy associated with darkness and deep mysteries, as was in place one cycle ago (last October) at the time of the final public Jan. 6th committee hearings before the midterm elections. During these hearings evidence was presented to show that the dumpster had privately conceded that he had lost the election, but he “didn’t want people to know”. During the hearing a number of video tapes were reviewed, including one where Cathy Hutchinson said that the dumpster didn’t want people to know that the Supreme Court had rejected his election suit. On that same day the Supreme Court rejected the dumpster’s attempt to try to prevent the DoJ from reviewing classified documents seized from Mar-a-Lago.

Currently this energy coincides with the observance of Kuan Kung’s birthday in Taiwan. Aka Guan Gong or Guan Yu, he was seen as a defender of the people, a kind of benefic warlord known as a great and righteous protector, able to deflect all negative energy.

13 K’an (July 1st) – transformational “generative vitality”; a powerfully exuberant force that can instigate a great deal of action on many fronts, coinciding at this time with Canada Day, and the final day of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, which ends at sundown.

This is Establishment Day in Hong Kong, the 26th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong’s sovereignty from the UK to the People’s Republic of China, which used to be marked by fireworks and a huge march led by the Civil Human Rights Front prior to China’s crackdown on civil rights. This is also the opening day of Kyoto’s Gion Matsuri, one of the most famous festivals in Japan that spans the entire month of July. Its roots date back to 869 when the people of Kyoto held a festival to pray for respite from a plague that had befallen the city.

Detail from Information notice that “all slaves are free”, issued in Galveston on 13 K’an, the last day of this trecena, in 1865. Public Domain.

As noted above, this is the energy that was in place on June 19th, 1865 day when Union soldiers landed at Galveston with news that the U.S. civil war had ended and that slavery had been abolished. In 1960 this was the energy in place when John F. Kennedy won the election to become the 35th President of the US.
