As mentioned in the post on the topic of the Kab’an trecena, 11 Manik’ (the date of this Sept. 14th post) is U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s Maya birthday. This “inspirational deer” energy, aligned with the idea of reciprocity and new possibilities, is perfectly in keeping with the significant events that unfolded today in Geneva as Sec. General Kerry met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.  Under Manik’s harmonizing influence the U.S. and Russia reached an agreement on a broad framework designed to facilitate the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.

Intriguingly, this agreement was reached precisely two Tzolk’in cycles (2 x 260 days) after a tentative truce was put into place in Syria in April of 2012, in “a rare moment of calm”, as Syrian troops held their fire in accordance with a UN-brokered peace plan. At that time Kofi Annan was urging the UN Security Council to demand a full military withdrawal.  Procedures aligned with today’s proposal, put forth 520 days after that “rare moment” in 2012, will be presented for adoption by the OPCW (Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons), and reinforced by a U.N. Security Council resolution.
