Maya Count Of Days Horoscope

Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

Here we go with the last trecena (13 day period) of the current 260 day cycle – a cycle that began with the week “when America turned the page” (as journalist Don Lemon put it), and ends with Dussehra, the final day of a popular Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Let’s look at how this fits in with this trecena’s energies.

It was the second half of January when this trecena was last in place. At the beginning of the trecena Washington DC was in lockdown and preparations were underway for Joe Biden’s inauguration. It was right after the insurrection and the global pandemic was severely out-of-control. All 50 states in the US were on high alert, due to pandemic itself, and the severe moral and economic crises that were playing out in multiple areas. During this period a momentous transition was underway in the US, with one administration limping out, leaving a catastrophic trail of destruction behind, and a new administration coming in, armed and ready to deal with the enormous task of cleaning up the gigantic mess that had been fomented by over four years of “spiritual decay and moral decrepitude” (as Harvard professor Cornel West put it).

President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. takes the presidential oath of office at the U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2021, as he became the 46th President of the United States on the 5th day of this trecena.  (DoD photo by U.S. Army Sgt. Charlotte Carulli)

At that time there was a great deal of emphasis being placed on “the Big Lie” that had been told, over and over again, by the dumpster over the final few weeks of his administration as he tried to overturn the results of the election. All this after failing miserably in terms of dealing with the challenges associated with the coronavirus and pretty well everything else during those four dreadful years.

So what we have at the beginning of the trecena is One Lamat, associated with Venus, the great celestial “signaller”, an energy that often heralds the need for alertness – as things are in the process of change. As the ancient Maya often referenced Venus as a “signaller” for war related events, it is not unusual to see some sort of friction during this period, as people “read signals” and take a stand.

One of the major patrons of this trecena was known to the Aztec as Xipe Tótec, the ancient Lord of Renewal and Liberation. The other was Xiuhtecuhtli, the Lord of Fire and Time – a deity connected with time-related change, as in cycle endings. Both of these entities are oriented around the idea of setting the stage for new beginnings. Sudden and dramatic change is not unusual at this time, particularly with regard to individuals in leadership positions.

Adaptation of the Lamat (Star, Rabbit) trecena from the pre-Columbian Codex Borgia by artist Richard Balthazar (used with permission). The first day (One Lamat or One Rabbit) is represented by the little head of a rabbit at the lower left (within the border). The other days of this trecena proceed from there to the right, and then up towards the top, to the stylized flower (Ajaw) at the upper right. The daysign numbers pertaining to this trecena (beginning with One Lamat) are not shown, but implied. The patron deities associated with this trecena are Xiuhtecuhtli, the Lord of Fire and Time (the large image on the left) and Xipe Tótec, the ancient Lord of Renewal and Liberation (the large image on the right).

Indeed, events relating to world leadership often seem to surface during this period, as could be seen seven cycles ago, in October of 2016, when this trecena sent out all sorts of warnings to the world to “get ready” for the monumental changes that were about to unfold with the then-forthcoming U.S. presidential election. That included (on the final day of this trecena – the last day of the cycle) a massive internet cyber attack that involved the “weaponization” of internet-connected everyday devices, which knocked out access to many of the top internet sites such as Amazon, Twitter, Paypal, and Netflix.

As it happened, that “weaponization” seemed to continue on during the whole of the dumpster’s presidency, as he used his Twitter feed to promulgate widespread “truth decay”. That was when an opportunity was presented to nip the forthcoming “hellfire tornado” in the bud, before too much damage could be done, when then-House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that he would no longer defend the dumpster and would focus on maintaining the Republican congressional majority, at which time the dumpster “declared war” on Ryan and the GOP establishment – and the rest is history!

Six cycles ago, during the summer of 2017, massive protest demonstrations took place in dozens of US cities during this trecena, in a huge call for the dumpster’s impeachment, with marchers’ signs signalling sentiments such as “Illegitimate, Corrupt Puppet”, and “Worst President Ever”.

During the following cycles many departures from the White House occurred during this period and there were a number of huge protest demonstrations, such as National School Walkout Day, a nationwide protest in March of 2018 that saw students, teachers, school administrators, parents, and others take part in walkouts, sit-ins, and other related actions on school campuses across the U.S. as they called for tougher gun control laws. Later that same year, Democrats began preparations to resume control of the US House of Representatives during this trecena, with 102 newly-elected women, just after the mid-term elections.

In the deeper past this is the trecena that was in place in 1918 when Russia’s Czar Nicholas and his family were executed by Bolshevik troops, at the beginning of this trecena, after being removed from Imperial power and held in captivity for several months. Thirty-five years later this energy brought forth the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, on the first day of the same trecena that saw the coronation of Queen Elizabeth I in 1559 (the two coronations were only five Maya calendar days apart). Seven years after Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation that same One Lamat energy saw John F. Kennedy give his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention (1960) after winning the Democratic nomination for president. Fast forward to 2013 and we find the inauguration of Pope Francis I on One Lamat, in an open air mass in St. Peter’s Square with heads of state and religious leaders from 132 international governments or organizations, and some 200,000 people in attendance.

In terms of this trecena as a whole, this is a time period that has precipitated a number of important “world shifting” events in the past, including the discovery of gold in California in 1848; the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, followed by the unconditional surrender of Japan at the end of World War II; the passage of the Civil Rights Act in the U.S. in 1957; the first major Greenpeace event, in 1975; the completion of the deconstruction of the Berlin Wall in 1990; the storming of Baghdad by U.S. forces in 2003; and the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

October 2-8th

Spanning the first part of this trecena

Currently the beginning of this trecena coincides with the start of Mental Illness Awareness Week in the US, which brings the reminder of the UN’s warning to all countries two cycles ago, in May of 2020, that since the pandemic was causing widespread psychological distress, provision should be made for mental health support to be a key part of their response to the coronavirus. By the end of this Lamat trecena at that time there were approximately 1.4 million cases in the US, the highest in the world . . . which rose to nearly 25 million cases by the time this trecena opened in mid January of this year. By then over 400,000 people had died in that country, and over 2 million worldwide. Due to the gross ineptitude of the dumpster and his administration in terms of responding to the pandemic the pandemic was raging by the end of his term. Just before he left office the US had reached highs of well over 300,000 cases and over 4,000 deaths per day.

Thankfully, President Biden arrived with a comprehensive plan for dealing with the pandemic in hand. However, by that time, as he began his presidency, the number who had died in the US had already surpassed the number of Americans killed during World War II, at over 420,000. And even though vaccine programs and many other measures have been put into place we have surpassed the point when the number of people killed by Covid-19 is greater than the number of Americans who died during the 1918 flu pandemic, the deadliest of the 20th century. Now, as this Lamat trcena begins, we see that there have been more than 700,000 deaths in the US, and more than 4.8 million people have lost their lives to it globally. So – there is much still to be done to curb this deadly trend, and much to be done on many other fronts.

As always this is a particularly good time to set the stage for personal new beginnings, an excellent time to work with this trecena’s energies to “signal” your intentions as you work to make whatever adjustments might be needed to address the new realities that we are all facing. This is a great time to work with the “deities of renewal” – the Lord of Renewal and Liberation and the Lord of Fire and Time – who will be helping to set the foundations for the changes that will come. Here are the energies that will be in place at this time:

1 Lamat (Oct. 3rd) – the “initiation of leadership”, a heralding type of energy that can point towards change or new directions, as was in place last January as preparations were being made for Joe Biden’s inauguration as the 46th President of the US. This energy has often been an important marker point in terms of leadership in world history. George Washington was selected to become the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army under this influence in 1775, and Queen Elizabeth II’s elaborate coronation took place under this influence in 1953. In 2011 this was the energy in place on the dedication day for the $120 million memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Washington D.C., and four cycles ago this was in place when US House Democrats voted overwhelmingly to nominate Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

Currently this is the final day of the 22-acre white flag installation on the national mall in Washington DC, involving a sea of 700,000 white flags, representing American lives lost so far from C-19. This is also the start of Mental Illness Awareness Week in the US.

2 Muluk (Oct. 4th) – the “dynamic shape-shifting” energy of water, coinciding at this time with Canada’s National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit people. In addition this is World Animal Day and the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, a time for many Blessing of the Animals events – although some churches may hold this event the day before.

World Animal Day is Oct. 4th. Photo credit: Hans-Jurgen Mager (Unsplash)

World Animal Day was initiated in 1931 at a convention of ecologists to highlight the plight of endangered species, and since then has been observed annually as a tribute day for all animals. Fauna & Flora International provides an overview of species on the brink.

This is also the UN’s World Habitat Day, with the theme for this year being Accelerating urban action for a carbon-free world. The focus for this day is to amplify the global Race to Zero Campaign and UN-Habitat’s ClimateAction4Cities and encourage local governments to develop actionable zero-carbon plans in preparation for the international climate change summit COP26 in November.

Five Tzolk’in cycles ago thousands participated in the National School Walkout Day protests across the US under this influence, to spur action on gun control . . . . and yet, not only has the violence continued, but it has clearly escalated as disputes over “truth” continue on, and as Covid continues to take its toll. Currently this is the day when the Supreme Court in the US begins its new term, and will be hearing oral arguments for the first time since the pandemic forced the proceedings to go viral 19 months ago. Cases that they will be hearing during this term will focus on contentious topics such as guns and abortion, and religion-related issues.

3 Ok (Oct. 5th) – a Burner Day representative of the “activation of fire” (or heart-fire), coinciding at this time with UNESCO’s World Teachers’ Day, with the current theme being: “Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery”. This is also a National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding, as part of Mental Illness Awareness week.

Since this is the release date for Stephanie Grisham’s I’ll Take Your Questions Now: What I saw at the Trump White House, which candidly presents insider accounts of life inside the White House during the last administration, there are sure to be “firestorms” around this topic at this time.

This day marks one cycle since Angela Merkel, known as the “world’s crisis manager”, announced that she would be stepping down this year, after serving for 4 terms as Chancellor of Germany (for almost 16 years). She has dealt with five UK prime ministers, 4 French presidents, 7 Italian prime ministers, 8 Japanese prime ministers, and 4 US presidents. And since the elections were just held in Germany, her replacement is due to be announced during this trecena, perhaps even on this day.

4 Chuwen (Oct. 6th) – a “defining” day associated with creativity (and sometimes mischief); a “time-weaver” type of energy that can be quite eventful, at the time of the New Moon. As this tends to be an energy that can “weave events together” in often unusual ways, this New Moon correlation has the potential to foment something unexpected. The last time this was in place it was the last day of what many refer to as “the worst presidency in history”, as factcheckers have reported that the dumpster told an average of some 4,000 lies per month during his time in office, with the biggest of all being the BIG one about the results of the 2020 election.

This marks one cycle since Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock were certified as the winners of the Georgia Senate elections, which gave the Democrats control of the Senate in Washington, making it evenly split, giving Vice-President Kamala Harris a tie-breaking vote, whenever needed. That was the day (last January) when then President-elect Joe Biden held a lighting ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, just before he was sworn into office, in memory of the 400,000 people who had died from Covid by that point. Since then that number has climbed to over 700,000.

5 Eb’ (Oct. 7th) – a “blessing” type of energy associated with restorative vitality, coinciding at this time with the opening day for the Global Women’s Leadership Summit in Toronto, a summit that “brings together CEOs, SVPs, VPs, Directors, Heads of Departments, Managers, and aspiring leaders to share ideas and their personal stories of leadership struggles and accomplishments” – perfectly suited to this Lamat trecena.

This was the energy in place last January at the time of the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th US president, and Kamala Harris as the first female Vice-President, with rays of sunlight coming through to illuminate them, on what was the 60th Gregorian anniversary of the day when Pres. John F. Kennedy took his oath of office in 1961 as the 35th president. That was when President Kennedy gave his famous “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country” speech.

In India and many other places where Hindu festivals are celebrated this energy is currently coinciding with Shardiya Navratri, an auspicious Hindu Masik Durgashtami day associated with the arrival of the dazzling 10-armed warrior Goddess Durga, who comes in to battle against the forces of evil that threaten peace and prosperity. This Hindu deity represents the positive female forces of the universe, and is generally seen as the great divine mother whose name translates as “the one who eliminates sufferings”. Durga is seen as the protector of all that is good and harmonious in the universe. Traditionally this would be the day of her arrival on an elephant, at the beginning of a nine day festival that involves colourful processions, performance arts, pagentry, prayers and traditional songs and dances dedicated to the goddess.

6 B’en (Oct. 8th) – representative of “personal authority everywhere”, the day when the winners of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced, as Mars conjuncts the Sun. Due to this conjunction period there is a two-week communications blackout underway with regard to NASA’s robotic explorations, and other missions relating to this planet, which will remain in place until the last day of this trecena.

This is the 50th Gregorian anniversary of the day in 1971 when Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau announced multiculturaliam as an official government policy, with no opposition in the House of Commons. The intent was not only to preserve the cultural freedom of all individuals, but also to recognize the cultural contributions of diverse ethnic groups to Canadian society.

This is political activist and civil rights leader Jesse Jackson’s 80th Gregorian birthday and civil rights activist Opal Lee’s 95th Gregorian birthday. Opal Lee has been deemed the “grandmother of Juneteenth” for her campaign to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.

This day marks one cycle since President Biden unveiled a comprehensive Covid strategy, the day after he assumed office. He also signed 10 more executive orders and invoked the Defense Production Act in order to increase the supply of vaccine-related materials and ramp up testing. This also marks five cycles since Vladimir Putin was re-elected in Russia, for his fourth term, in 2018. Since then many who have attempted to oppose him have either died mysteriously or been subject to severe persecution.

At this point it has been seven cycles since a monumental climate change deal was finalized under this influence by nearly 200 countries at the UN’s 24th Climate Change Conference in Katowice, Poland (in 2016). Currently preparations are underway for COP26, which opens at the end of October.

7 Ix (Oct. 9th) – a “self generating transformation” type of energy – exactly six cycles since protestors across the U.S. in dozens of cities held huge impeachment rallies, calling for the dumpster’s impeachment. As it turned out, they finally got their wish – TWICE!

Five cycles ago it was reported that Facebook lost more than $50 billion in value due to information that came out about the wide range of unethical tactics that had been used to spread misinformation in order to influence elections around the world. The legacy of that can still be seen in all the issues that have stemmed from the spreading of “The Big Lie” that led to the insurrection on Jan. 6th.

Rudy Giuliani’s deposition on Aug. 14th revealed how extraordinarily dangerous this kind of misinformation can be, as he testified, under oath, that some of the conspiracy theories he pushed about the 2020 election came from social media . . likely Facebook . . . and that he didn’t bother to check the truthfulness of the claims from the “bombshell” source who claimed the election was stolen.

Currently this energy coincides with a Mercury-Sun conjunction, which is highly aligned with communication. Be extra careful with your thoughts and communications at this time, since there is a good chance that they could have a strong impact on others, as well as the world at large.

8 Men (Oct. 10th) – a “resurrection” type of energy associated with the high vision of the Eagle, coinciding with World Mental Health Day, on the final day of Mental Illness Awareness Week in the US. In North Korea this is Party Foundation Day, the celebration of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea in 1945, an annual public holiday that includes mass events and military parades.

Two cycles ago under this energy influence UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement where he said that the coronavirus pandemic has been unleashing “a tsunami of hate and xenophobia, scapegoating and scare-mongering”, as he appealed for “an all-out effort to end hate speech globally.” At that time Guterres called on political leaders to show solidarity with all people, and on educational institutions to focus on digital literacy at a time when extremists were seeking to prey on captive and potentially despairing audiences. Unfortunately that “all-out effort” did not take root, since that tsunami has turned into a devolution, that is now seeing even health care workers being attacked, as health care facilities start to buckle under the strain imposed by the pandemic and all its implications.

9 Kib’ (Oct. 11th) – an expansive, “restoration of order” type of energy, sometimes associated with making “adjustments”, often with long term implications, coinciding at this time with a wide variety of special events, including Thanksgiving in Canada and Indigenous People’s Day in the US, celebrated in many parts of the US, such as New Mexico, Oregon, Alaska, and many other states and cities, instead of Columbus day. In many places this is known as El Día de la Raza (“The Day of the Race”) or Hispanic Heritage Day to highlight the heritage and cultural diversity of Latin Americans wherever they may live and to recognize their resistance to the infiltration of Europeans.

In Venezuela it is specifically known as El Día de la Resistencia Indigena (The Day of Indigenous Resistance). In Spain this day is celebrated as Hispanic Day, a national public holiday that commemorates the day when Christopher Columbus first set foot in the Americas and “claimed for Spain” a land that has been estimated to have been inhabited by over 100 million people in 1492.  Also at this time:

  • the opening of the 125th Boston Marathon, a virtual three day event that encourages participants to run their 26.2 miles anytime, anywhere during this period
  • the opening of the UN’s on-line Summit on Biodiversity (with part 1 running through to Oct. 15th, the final day of this trecena)
  • the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child
  • the 34th annual National Coming Out Day and Human Rights Campaign
  •  the beginning of Durga Puja in India, tied in with a celebration of the victory of good over evil, through the intervention of that great 10-armed warrior Goddess (see Oct. 15th). This is a key day in India within this overall Durga oriented festival which continues until 13 Ajaw, the end of this trecena

This is the Maya birth energy of both Cicely Tyson and Christopher Plummer, both of whom lived long and eventful lives, both gone within a few days of one another in early Feb. of this year.

10 Kab’an (Oct. 12th) – a foundational type of energy associated with the earth and evolutionary movement, coinciding at this time with a Calendar Round return of the exact 10 Kab’an 15 Yax energies that were in place at the time of the October Revolution in Russia – when the Communists (Bolsheviks) came to power in 1917, two Calendar Rounds (2 x 52 years) ago.

This also marks three Calendar Rounds plus one 260-day Tzolk’in cycle since the second inauguration of President Lincoln, at which time he said: “With malice toward none; with charity for all…let us strive on to finish the work we are in…to do all which may achieve and cherish a just, and a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.”

On this day Blue Origin flight will take 90-year old William Shatner (Captain Kirk of Star Trek) and three others on a journey into space, at which time Shatner will become the oldest person to have flown into space.

11 Etz’nab’ (Oct. 13th) – an “inspirational flint” (knife-edge) type of force that can be quite decisive, dazzling and attention-getting, as it was when the worst fighting of the May 1968 crisis in France took place, as students calling for radical change took over the Paris Stock Exchange, raised a communist flag over the building, and tried to set it on fire. This was also in place when the Tulsa race massacre took place in 1921, when mobs of armed white residents attacked black residents and citizens, killing 3 dozen people.

In 1325 this energy was in place at the time of the founding of Tenochtitlan, the axis of the Aztec empire. In 1944 an attempt was made to assassinate Hitler under this influence (one of 3 such attempts that year); and in 1955 a young Elvis Presley gave his first professional performance under this influence in his hometown of Tupelo.

Currently this is the UN’s International Day for Disaster Reduction.

World Sight Day, Oct. 14th

12 Kawak (Oct. 14th) – the “gathering Storm/catalyzation” type of energy that can provide a final big PUSH toward enlightenment, on what would have been George Floyd’s 48th Gregorian birthday, the day when Michelle Obama and The Poor People’s Campaign will be presented with their National Civil Rights Museum’s 2021 Freedom Awards.

This is also the World Health Organization’s World Sight Day.  In addition this is the day of China’s Double Ninth (Chongyang) Festival, aka Height Ascending Festival or Chrysanthemum Festival, aka Seniors’ Day – the day when many will visit the graves of ancestors to pay respects and clean the stones. As chrysanthemums are considered to have cleansing qualities these flowers are also prominent at this time. The Chinese pronunciation for the word “nine” is similar to that for the word “forever”, symbolizing longevity.

It has been 5 cycles since the massive “March for Our Lives” demonstrations in Washington and other major cities in the spring of 2018, when some two million people marched across the U.S. in the “largest student protest in American history, one of the largest marches on Washington in history, and the second largest march in American history, with millions more estimated to have marched throughout the world” in support of gun control legislation.

Two cycles ago the US Supreme Court heard, by teleconference – for the first time ever, two of the cases associated with the release of the dumpster’s financial records. This time this energy brings the start of the first hearings relating to the Jan. 6th insurrection.

13 Ajaw (Oct. 15th) – “transformational Full Sun”, a day often filled with high drama and great change – and sometimes even great light (enlightenment), at the conclusion of the Imix to Ajaw cycle, as hearings continue in Washington.

This day marks 107 cycles since the jubilant celebration of VJ Day in 1945 at the end of World War II after the unconditional surrender of Japan. It is the conclusion of Hispanic Heritage Month, and a Tzolk’in anniversary of the awarding of the contract for construction of the Space Shuttles Atlantis and Discovery in 1979.

This is the 52nd Gregorian anniversary of the first Moratorium Peace rally to end the Vietnam War, which involved mass protests across the US (some 100,000 marched in Boston on that day), in efforts to bring an end to the war; by the end of 1969 some 45,000 Americans and over 640,000 Vietnamese had been killed in action in that war. That was believed to be the largest mass demonstration in US history up to that point, with more than 2 million people taking part.  Note that the Calendar Round anniversary of the energy of that day was the last day of the last trecena (13 Manik’, Oct. 2nd).

It has been 15 cycles exactly since the great “moment of transition” in Egypt in 2011 when hundreds of thousands waited for President Mubarak to step down, and three cycles since President Macron declared a state of emergency in France and agreed to a wide range of concessions, in response to massive protests that had been taking place, including a minimum wage rise and tax cuts.

Currently this is Dussehra, the final day of Shardiya Navratri, one of India’s most significant Hindu festivals that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. In Indian mythology this was associated with the killing of the King of Demons by the dazzling 10-armed warrior Goddess Durga. In legend the Gods (including the trinity of Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu) pooled their divine energies to give birth to this great Goddess Durga, who was given the power to destroy evil. (See Oct. 7th for the first day of this festival). May she continue to do this important work on this significant “Transformational Enlightenment” day, to prepare the way for the new cycle that is about to come in next.
