Sometimes it becomes necessary to go “back to the drawing board” in order to regroup. Sometimes circumstances prompt that return to foundations, and sometimes it just becomes clear that re-thinking or restructuring must be done. And sometimes it’s more a matter of returning to “home base” in order to take a deep breath and refresh. As this Kimi trecena comes into place it seems that all of these rationales are intertwining at this time, perfectly in synch with the nature of this energy frame.

We have certainly seen evidence of this in the past, as when this trecena brought the death and national period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, just as this very same trecena had brought the death and national mourning for her husband, Prince Philip, two Tzolk’in cycles earlier.  During those periods there was a great sense of loss in the UK, as long-standing symbols of national unity and stability were suddenly gone, and things were in a state of flux. And, even now, with reports of health issues associated with both King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, that sense of instability seems to be making its presence felt once again.

In July of 2020 memorial events associated with the passing of civil right activist and “Conscience of the United States Congress” John Lewis become the focus of much attention in the US during this time frame, as John Lewis had been a leading figure, over many decades, in the fight for equal rights and social justice.  Then, one cycle ago, the beginning of this time frame brought the passing of Tina Turner, known for many years as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll”. As could be felt at the time of such events, there is often a strong sense of “letting go” during this period.

Indeed, the very first first day of the Kimi trecena is represented by a skull, indicative of “returning to Source”, going back to “bare bones” foundations in order to regroup. The principal patron of this time frame was seen as the Conch-shell Lord known as Tecciztécatl, a proud and richly attired deity who somewhat reluctantly sacrificed himself to become the Moon. He is often shown accompanied by Tonatiuh, God of the Sun, so within this context we have the Moon and the Sun working together to bring light to the world. In Mesoamerican mythology this pairing is part of the creation story, so this trecena might be seen as a “regeneration” point, a starting point for regrouping or restructuring.

In ancient Mesoamerica the power and potency of One Kimi were such that a great festival often accompanied the arrival of this trecena, often beginning the evening before. Four cycles ago we saw this in Egypt when the mummies of many of Egypt’s royal ancestors (18 kings and 4 queens) were ceremoniously transferred in a spectacular “Golden parade” from Cairo’s old Egyptian Museum to the new one, starting at sundown the evening before.

Many times in the past we have seen this trecena associated with both natural disasters and major crises that have forced people into positions of profound loss (as when Puerto Rico suffered the full force of Hurricane Maria in 2017). Such losses have brought many to the point where the only option available was to “start again”, pushing them to build new foundations in order to “regenerate”. Such events generally force people to take a good hard look at many aspects of their lives. Restructuring is often required on a various levels, including personal, local, national, and international, as well as on mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. Currently this is what will be required by many in California after the widespread destruction caused by monumental storms over the past few days.

And then there are the on-going wars, with this trecena beginning on Day 715 of the Russia-Ukraine war. As the situation has become somewhat of a stalemate, with US aid for Ukraine still being held up by congressional squabbling, and no real progress being made to curtail the war, it seems that some radical structuring may be needed. Indeed, this trecena had played a significant role in the fate of Ukraine, and it is now marking ten years since the 2014 conflicts that led to the ousting of pro-Russian president Yanukovych, the issuing of a warrant for his arrest, and the installation of a new interim government in Kiev, as Russia was proceeding with the takeover of Crimea.

In Gaza the situation remains horrendous, as the UN warns of a “large scale” loss of life in Rafah City if Israel continues its attacks. By this time more than 27,500 people have been killed since the Oct. 7th attack. Just before the end of the last trecena a three-mile (5 km) long line of old children’s clothes were strewn along Bournemouth Beach in the UK as a protest to represent the children killed in both sides of the Israel-Gaza conflict since Oct. 7th. As the frantic search for solutions continues, no doubt this trecena will find negotiators scrambling to find new avenues through which to bring this unthinkable situation to an end.

As always, Kimi represents a key genesis point for regeneration. As always, this is a time frame that tends to bring things “back to basics” so that restoration and renewal can be addressed. It is for this reason, as difficult as it may seem at times, that this trecena has often been associated with “luck” and even good fortune as it presents an opportunity to “pause and regroup”, to review one’s overall “state”, and even to clean out whatever is not wanted or needed in order to set up new foundations for what you want to rejuvenate or bring into your life.

And, indeed, on one level this trecena is providing opportunities for hundreds of millions of people to do just that as Chinese New Year and other large festivals will be underway. During such times, centuries old traditions often provide great comfort and a sense of stability and continuity.

And with this current trecena beginning with a highly significant US Supreme Court hearing related to the 14th Amendment appeal, pertaining to the question of whether or not the dumpster is even eligible to be on election ballots, the One Kimi energy in place at this time will definitely be bringing things back to “bare bones foundations”. Indeed, the rulings that are forthcoming through the US justice system during this full 13-day period will set the foundations for how pivotal prosecutions will be able to proceed for the rest of the year. These rulings could include, in addition to the eligibility decision, the final decision on the “immunity” question, the final ruling of the multi-million dollar fraud case in New York, and timing decisions relating to the hush money case in Manhattan. An important hearing will also be held in Georgia, with implications pertaining to the question of how the election racketeering case will henceforth proceed.

Without doubt, the many events unfolding during this period will be life changing for millions of people, in one way or another. But keep in mind that this trecena can sometimes shed light on amazing new possibilities, that could include completely new ways of knowing, as it did three cycles ago with the launch of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope that has already shed much new light on the nature of the universe. During this period many pivotal decisions will be made that will provide the “foundations” for events moving forward. Here are the energies that will come into play:

1 Kimi (Feb. 8th) – the “initiation” of “death/return to Source” foundations (the point at which new life can be engendered), coinciding with one of the days associated with the Buddhist Parinirvana or Nirvana Day (achievement of full enlightenment), although most celebrate Nirvana Day on Feb. 15th, currently on the 8th day of this trecena.

This will be a day when millions of people will be glued to their devices as they monitor the live-streaming of US Supreme Court hearings related to the 14th Amendment appeal, pertaining to the question of whether or not the dumpster is even eligible to be on ballots. If he is deemed ineligible, because he engaged in insurrection before and during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, this will be a huge gamechanger. This case is being brought by 91-year old former Republican legislator Norma Anderson, with the help of the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) group.

This is also the deadline day for tech firms in the US to respond to a class action lawsuit brought by 10 American artists in California against AI companies such as Midjourney, Stability AI, Runway AI and DeviantArt. It has been reported that some 16,000 British artists were considering joining this suit or bringing their own legal action in the UK.

It has now been two cycles exactly since Queen Elizabeth formally dismissed Prime Minister Boris Johnson and appointed Liz Truss as his successor, just two days before her passing, and two cycles since the celebrational event at the White House in honour of the signing into law and enactment of the historic Inflation Reduction Act in the US. That was the day when it was reported that classified materials relating to foreign nations’ nuclear capabilities were found at Mar-a-Lago during an FBI search.

This is also marking 14 cycles exactly since the start of Russia’s invasion and subsequent annexation of Crimea in early 2014. That One Kimi day brought a significant escalation of violence in Kyiv as pro-Russian and opposition forces engaged in fierce combat, that involved police and security forces firing on crowds of protestors. The key events that unfolded over the following days essentially set the foundation for the crisis that is still playing out in Ukraine.

This is actor/activist Jane Fonda’s Maya birth energy, which is currently marking one cycle since the passing of legendary superstar Tina Turner, known to many as the Queen of Rock ‘n Roll as well as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Soul.  It is also the 92nd Gregorian birthday of the celebrated (and legendary) composer John Williams.

2 Manik’ (Feb. 9th) – a dynamic type of energy aligned with the idea of reciprocity, which can sometimes tilt towards “polarization”, coinciding at this time with the New Snow Moon, on the eve of Chinese New Year, at the start of China’s spring festival holiday season. This is also opening day for Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival, “the biggest show on earth”.

In Chile this will be the day for the state funeral for Chilean ex-President Sebastian Pinera, who died in a helicopter crash on Feb. 6th. He served as Chile’s president for two non-consecutive terms between 2010 and 2022, and was perhaps best known abroad for his role overseeing the spectacular rescue in 2010 of 33 miners who were trapped underneath the Atacama desert.

This energy marks 11 Calendar Rounds since the issuing of the Dum Diversas in June of 1452. That was the initial edict that laid the theological and political foundations for the Doctrine of Discovery, by Pope Nicholas V. Writer Robert P. Jones, author of “The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future”, has argued that this edict laid the foundations for the concept of “white supremacy”. It was an edict that merged the interests of European imperialism (which included the African slave trade), with Christian missionary zeal, ultimately leading to the deaths of millions of people, and unfathomable misery for hundreds of millions of others. As everyone is aware, this basic idea is still wreaking havoc in the US and in many other countries.

3 Lamat (Feb. 10th) – the “activation” of the “bright star” heralding energy often associated with leadership, particularly in a “signalling capacity”, now marking two cycles exactly since the passing of Queen Elizabeth at Balmoral Castle, at age 96, and the declaration of Charles III as the new regent.

Currently this is Chinese New Year – the start of the Year of the Wood Dragon in the Chinese calendar, the most auspicious holiday in China – an important day for
celebration, including family reunion dinners.

This is the start of China’s Spring Festival, which lasts until Feb. 17th. The giving and receiving of “lucky money” in red envelopes is one of the highlights of this day. In Chinese tradition it is forbidden to sweep or clean at this time, so that good fortune does not get swept away. This is also Vietnam’s TET (Tet Nguyen Dan), Lunar New Year, the most important festival and public holiday in that country, heralding the arrival of spring.

This marks five cycles since the summer of 2020 when a global team of astrophysicists released the largest ever 3D map of the universe, marking the culmination of 20 years of cosmology surveys with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).

In addition, this is marking 14 cycles since the Ukrainian parliament voted to dismiss the pro-Russian then-president Yanukovych, in the midst of major clashes in the streets in Ukraine cities, and several Lenin statues were toppled in Western Ukraine.

4 Muluk (Feb. 11th) – a “defining” day associated with the shape-shifting energy of water, one of the 5 energies at the centre of the Aztec Sun Stone, coinciding at this time with the final day for the Sapporo Snow Festival, and the second day of Chinese New Year, the day known as the “Birthday of the Dog”, when dogs are given special treats. Vancouver’s colourful Chinese New Year parade will be held on this day, which will be the 50th Chinese New Year parade in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Over 5,000 participamts will be involved in the parade, which will showcase more than 70 cultural groups, with the parade expected to draw 100,000 spectators.

In the U.S. this is Superbowl Sunday. For those more interested in the canine version, the Puppy Bowl is also taking place at that time, to raise awareness about pet adoptions.

This is also the 45th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which marked the end of a 2,500 year Persian monarchy and the reshaping of global geopolitics. This is likely to be marked by worldwide demonstrations, as happened last year.

In 1994 this was the energy in place at the signing of the Budapest Memorandum by the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States, that prohibited these countries from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan – in return for an agreement that these countries would give up their nuclear weapons. The question of “Whatever happened to that?” still stands.

5 Ok (Feb. 12th) – the “blessing of love”, also associated with fire, protection, guidance, and justice, marking two cycles since the formal ceremonies and proclamations of Charles as the new King of the UK and the British Commonwealth. Last May, when this was in place, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who had been in power in Turkey for more than 20 years, was re-elected as president of that country. This is the Maya birth energy of Uğur Şahin, the CEO and one of the founders of BioNTech, the company that developed the Pfizer vaccine against Covid.

At this point it has been five cycles since 48 senators introduced legislation in the US to restore the Voting Rights Act after it was gutted by the Supreme Court in 2013. But Republicans have refused to take up the bill in the Senate. Currently this is the deadline for the dumpster to file an appeal with the Supreme Court after the DC court of Appeals ruled (on Feb. 6th) that he does NOT have presidential immunity and can be prosecuted as an ordinary citizen on charges of plotting to overturn the 2020 election. This third day of Chinese New Year is often allocated to grave-visiting.

6 Chuwen (Feb. 13th) – a “six directions” type of energy aligned with creativity and play, but sometimes associated with the unexpected, marking four Tzolk’in cycles since the death of Prince Philip in the UK. Two cycles ago this was the energy in place when Queen Elizabeth’s coffin was driven from Balmoral Castle to Edinburgh.

Currently this is the auspicious fourth day of Chinese New Year, known as “Yang Ri”, the Day of the Goat, a symbol of luck. This is also the day of the Kitchen God Festival (associated with good fortune) – a good time to throw out rubbish and anything associated with bad luck.

This is the final day of the spectacular Carnevale in Venice, and also “Fat Tuesday”, the last day of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. This is also known as Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Day), a traditional feast day before the start of Lent. This is also Wear Red Canada day, in support of heart health.

This is the Maya birth energy of pop superstar Taylor Swift, who is riding a spectacular wave of ultra success at the moment. In addition to her dazzling world tour, she just won her fourth Grammy for Album of the Year.

It has now been three cycles since the launch of the new James Webb Space Telescope, which ushered in a new era of astronomy, as this telescope has a field of view 15 times wider than that of the Hubble Space Telescope, and is capable of detecting faint infrared light from very early galaxies. Many spectacular images have been captured since that launch.

7 Eb’ (Feb. 14th) – a “self-generating stream-of-consciousness” type of energy; a revitalizing force located in this fertile “mid-point” in this trecena; sometimes a turning point towards the opening up of new possibilities. At this time this energy coincides with Valentine’s Day  and National Have a Heart Day, an annual event organized by the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada.

This is also the day for the 33nd annual Women’s Memorial March in Vancouver, in memory of missing and murdered indigenous women, a march that also draws attention to the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual issues that many vulnerable women still face today.

This is the fifth day in the Chinese New Year sequence, known as the “Birthday of Ox and Cattle” and the birthday of the God of Wealth (Caishen or Zhao Gongming) in China – a good time to welcome wealth into one’s home. It is also Ash Wednesday, the “Day of Ashes”, or day of repentance, prayer, and fasting, when Christians traditionally confessed their sins at the start of the Lenten period leading up to Easter. In Bali this is federal election day.

In line with the opening up of new possibilities, this is the scheduled launch date for SpaceX’s first Intuitive Machines, IM-1 launch, in which five robotic payloads will be sent to the moon as part of a Commercial Lunar Payload Services delivery, scheduled to land at the lunar south pole.

This day marks two cycles exactly since Queen Elizabeth’s coffin rested in state in St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh where a service of prayer and reflection for the life of the Queen was conducted. It also marks six cycles since a judge in New York ordered the dumpster to pay $2 million in damages for misusing his charitable foundation, referred to as “a shocking pattern of illegality”. Since then he has been indicted and found guilty in several other cases, and ordered to pay millions more, including almost $90 million to E. Jean Carroll, after being found guilty of both rape and defamation. Many other highly significant investigations are still unfolding, pending the outcome of (potentially) the final supreme court ruling on the question of immunity.

8 B’en (Feb. 15th) – the “resurrection” of personal authority, as was in place in 2014 on the day when formal approval was given to the new interim government in Ukraine, at the same time as dozens of armed pro-Russians seized the Crimea regional parliament, as Russian fighter jets were engaged in massive war games near the border.

Currently this is National Flag Day in Canada, and the sixth day of Chinese New Year, known as “Ma Ri”, the Day of the Horse, the day when, traditionally, families visit temples and send away the ghost of poverty. It is also the Buddhist Parinirvana or Nirvana Day, one of two days that celebrate Buddha’s achievement of Nirvana or full enlightenment (this is the one celebrated by most Buddhists, but some commemorate this on Feb. 8th).

Two cycles ago this energy coincided with Queen Elizabeth’s “last flight” as her coffin was flown from Edinburgh to London by the Royal Air Force. It was then driven to Buckingham Palace, where her coffin rested in state before being taken to Westminster. Five cycles ago, in the US, this energy brought the first of several commemorative events pertaining to the life and death of Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis.

Under this B’en influence in 1971 the New York Times published an excerpt from the “top secret” Pentagon Papers, the 7,000 page history of the U.S role in Indochina from WWII to 1968, that revealed presidential wrongdoings regarding the Vietnam War.

Currently on this day Justice Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the hush money case in Manhattan, will hold a hearing in which various motions will be heard and the timing could be set relating to that trial – a trial that is likely to become the first of several of the dumpster’s forthcoming criminal trials. With regard to the Georgia case, Fulton County Superior Court Justice Scott McAfee will hold a hearing on this day to address allegations about Georgia DA Fani Willis’s alleged romatic relationship with one of her prosecutors, seen by some as a possible conflict-of-interest.

9 Ix (Feb. 16th) – an often consequential, “outwardly projecting”, type of energy often associated with deep mysteries and transformation – as was in place two cycles ago when Queen Elizabeth’s coffin was borne on a gun carriage from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall in London for her Lying in State, with King Charles leading the procession. After a short service inside Westminster Hall, conducted by the archbishop of Canterbury, the Lying-in-State began, with hundreds of thousands of people filing past the coffin to pay their respects over the final five days of the trecena.

Five cycles ago Congressman John Lewis made his “Final Crossing” of the infamous Edmund Pettus Bridge under this same influence, in a processional ceremony that preceded his Lying-in-State at the Alabama State Capital. This is the Maya birth energy of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, the “absolute monarch” who is one of the world’s wealthiest royals, and now the world’s longest-reigning monarch, gaining this title after the death of Queen Elizabeth. His 78nd Gregorian birthday will be in July.

Currently this is Renri (People’s Day in China), the seventh day of the Lunar New Year, in celebration of the Day of Humans, in recognition of the “creation” of human beings. This is also an an important public holiday in North Korea called The Day of the Shining Star, an anniversary of the birthday of Kim Jong-il, Korea’s second leader and the father of Kim Jong-un.

In Winnipeg, this is the opening day for the 10-day Festival du Voyageur, Western Canada’s largest winter festival, which runs to Feb. 25th .

This is the Maya birth energy of celebrated writer/producer/comedian/political commentator Jon Stewart, who is returning as host of The Daily Show for one night a week, as of Feb. 12th – through until the U.S. election. As Chris McCarthy, the president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, put it:

10 Men (Feb. 17th) – “foundational higher vision” – a Burner Day aligned with “taking the fire” in conjunction with the “high vision” of the Eagle, a strong energy that has the potential to open up far-reaching possibilities, marking four cycles exactly since Ukraine announced that Russia had moved 80,000 troops to the border. In 2014 this was the energy in place when Russia executed a de facto military takeover of Crimea after the Russian parliament authorized Putin to intervene militarily “to protect Russian interests”. Called a “bloodless coup”, it was seen as a “counter-revolution within a revolution” that was welcomed and cheered on by pro-Russian Crimeans. At that time pro-Russian demonstrations broke out in several Ukraine cities, with the Russian tricolour flag being raised in many areas.

Currently this is the eighth day of Lunar New Year celebrations, sometimes referred to as “completion day”, traditionally aligned with the honouring of food and agriculture. It is also the final day of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival, and the opening day for the Nice Carnival, referred to as the premier international carnival in France, one of the largest in the world. This year’s theme is “King of Pop Culture”. In Vancouver this is the opening day of the three-day Fan Expo Pop Culture Convention, focusing on comic book art, superheroes, science fiction, cosplay (costume play), and related memorabilia.

11 Kib’ (Feb. 18th) – an energy that can be either change-oriented or “inspirational” (or both), often aligned with Kib’s orientation around shedding a kind of “first light” on things, towards the restoration of order, or finding practical approaches to problem solving. This is coinciding at this time with the ninth day of the Lunar New Year sequence, which is celebrated as the birthday of the Jade Emperor, Emperor of the Universe, the Supreme Deity of Taoism, a day honoured by all the deities of Heaven and Earth. In the Chinese New Year sequence this is the day of the Stone Festival, the birthday of the god of stone, known as “Shi Bu Dong” (not moving stone). Incense and candles are burned at this time, and stones or rocks are not moved or cut, in the interest of protecting crops.

This was the energy in place in early March of 2014 when Ukraine mobilized for war and two Crimean army bases were surrounded by Russian soldiers.

12 Kab’an (Feb. 19th) – a “dedication” type of energy associated with movement, particularly “Earth movement” – often a powerful energy associated with moving new ideas forward, coinciding at this time with President’s Day in the US, Louis Riel Day in Manitoba, and Family Day in several Canadian provinces (B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan). It is also the final day of Winterlude, Canada’s popular winter festival. Note, as well, that this is marking one cycle exactly until the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5th. This is also the 84th Gregorian birthday of the great Smokey Robinson, commonly referred to as “The Soul of Motown”.

In early March of 2014 this was the energy in place at the time of what was referred to as “the biggest crisis” of the 21st century when Russia issued an ultimatum to Ukraine to surrender Crimean military zones and “recognize the new Crimean authorities” by 3 a.m. the following morning. Three years (4 cycles) later, in early 2017, U.S. intelligence agencies released the report that described Russia’s sophisticated cybercampaign that was directed towards discrediting Secretary Clinton and undermining the U.S. democratic process during the 2016 election campaign.

13 Etz’nab’ (Feb. 20th) – “transformational flint”, a “heavy-duty, knife-edged” (and often “dazzling”) force for change that coincided two cycles ago with the final day of Queen Elizabeth’s Lying-in-State, as dignitaries arrived in London for the Queen’s state funeral the following day. This marks precisely 18 cycles since the spectacular wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey in 2011, watched by over a million people on the streets of London and an estimated 2 billion via the media.

In 2016, this was in place at the signing, by 175 nations at that time, of the historic global accord to fight climate change (the Paris Climate Change Agreement). In early March of 2014 this was the energy in place when, in a live address on Russian television, Putin insisted that Russia would not go to war with the Ukrainian people, even though he had already sent troops into Crimea. That was also a day when Russia test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile. Indeed, this day is currently marking the tenth anniversary of the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Crimea. One year ago, as of this day, President Biden made a surprise secret visit to Kyiv, via a 10 hour train trip from Poland, prior to meeting with world leaders in Warsaw.

In mid-November of 2019, this energy was in place when public hearings began for the impeachment process related to how the dumpster had threatened to withhold aid for Ukraine if they weren’t forthcoming with “political dirt” that might be used against Biden. That was when lawmakers still had a chance to bring an end to the “reign of terror”, but too few had the courage to do what should have been done – and democracy has been in peril ever since.

This is not only civil rights icon and long-serving Congressman John Lewis’s Maya birth energy, but it also marks seven cycles since the introduction of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act (aka H.R.4) on Feb. 26, 2019, which was designed to restore and strengthen parts of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Although passed by the US House of Representatives, this bill has yet to be passed by the Senate. Amazingly, this energy was again in place on the day of John Lewis’s final Celebration of Life in July of 2020, when a private ceremony was held at Ebenezer Baptist Church Horizon Sanctuary in Atlanta, with eulogies given by former presidents Bush, Clinton, and Obama. The ceremony was followed by John Lewis’s internment.

Back in 1861 this was the Maya calendar energy in place when Abraham Lincoln appointed General McClellan to lead the Union Army forces, at the start of the U.S. Civil War. Four years later, in 1865, this was in place at the time of the Grand Review of the Armies, when Union Army troops paraded down Pennsylvania Avenue to celebrate the end of the American Civil War.
