The Kib’ (Vulture) trecena: Nov. 19-Dec. 1, 2025

After the extraordinary conclusion to the last trecena, that saw more than 80 countries make an impassioned plea for COP30 to draw up a workable roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels, on the same day as the U.S. Congress voted, almost unanimously, in favour of releasing the infamous Epstein files (after decades of refusing to do so), it was clear that the last trecena had done some very heavy lifting in terms of shining a spotlight on issues that were screaming for attention. Throughout that trecena, major pushbacks to the Trump administration’s agenda could be seen on multiple fronts, and now the highly “get down to business” energies of this Kib’ trecena have their work cut out for them.
The Vulture symbolism associated with this period relates to the idea of vultures being revered for their resourcefulness and perceptive abilities, and for their connections to death and rebirth. Kib’ is often represented by a vulture that is tasked with “cleaning things up” after some kind of carnage. Traditionally there has been a strong emphasis on ingenuity, industriousness, practicality, and learning to “think differently” during this period. This can be a time when important transmutations take place, often triggered by dramatic events that demand change.
Most certainly that is the situation in the world today. In Brazil, that call for a roadmap was seen as an intervention into stuck negotiations at the COP30 climate summit, as all those countries, representing billions of people, demanded practical action to tackle climate change, despite opposition from petrostates and others. In the U.S. the survivors of the Epstein era demanded justice, and millions who have been pushing back against the current administration are now at the point of demanding impeachment and removal of the convicted felon who turned himself into a dictator. With regard to war torn regions such as Gaza, people are demanding that humanitarian aid be allowed to reach those in dire need.
Keep in mind that during this energy sequence there is often an emphasis on duality, sometimes involving paired events or paired ideas struggling to maintain equilibrium or overcome obstacles. Often there is a kind of “teetering” between two polarities, reflective of the “sun close to the earth” or “fire in the earth” kinds of forces associated with the patron energies of this period, energies that have been known to foment havoc for the purpose of transmutation, often as part of a push towards the birthing of a new type of order. Traditionally, the principal patron of this period was seen as the canine deity Xólotl, a god of twins and conjoined things, who protects and accompanies the sun on its journey through the Underworld at night.

Adaptation of the K’ib (Vulture) trecena from the pre-Columbian Codex Borgia by artist Richard Balthazar (used with permission). The first day (One K’ib) is represented by the little head of a vulture at the lower left (within the border). The other days of this trecena proceed from there to the right, and then up towards the top, to the head of a rabbit (Lamat) at the upper right. The daysign numbers pertaining to this trecena (beginning with One K’ib) are not shown, but implied. The patron deity associated with this trecena is shown on the left in the larger image at the top. That is the canine deity Xolotl, in his guise as a deity of Twins and Conjoined Things. His twin is Quetzalcoatl, shown in serpentine form on the right. Xolotl is also wearning a conch pendant, often associated with Quetzalcoatl. The fact that the serpent is depicted as cut into five pieces may reflect the fact that this trecena is often associated with the often challenging process of transmutation. Click here for an overview of Richard’s various other versions of the same recena.
As we go through this period, that idea of “paired ideas struggling to maintain equilibrium” will be a major theme, as usual, as many dualities in thought and action will be seen. But the emphasis has shifted dramatically from one cycle ago, when a tsunami of attacks was being thrust upon U.S. citizens by the then-recently installed Dump 2.0 administration. At that time peoples lives and livelihoods were being thrown into chaos as the political landscape was being rapidly and dramatically reshaped. But things are very, very different now, with U.S. citizens working hard, on every level, to push back against the tyranny and demand accountability.
Keep in mind that this is a period that often brings forth significant shifts, generally towards the light, as reflected in the symbols associated with this period, one of which is “wax”, as in “candle” or “votive” (ie. light), symbolically seen as a piece of the sun that can help to restore hope and light the way. The candlelit vigil held in Washington by Epstein survivors, on the eve of the start of this current trecena, after that near-unanimous vote to release the files, is very symbolic of the potential.
Another is that symbol of the Vulture, the high-flying bird that is often highly revered for its resourcefulness, intelligence, adaptability, and perceptive abilities, and for its ability to neutralize harmful substances, and “purify”. Additionally, keep in mind that vultures are known as nature’s “beautiful purifiers”, “cleansers”, and “composters”. A gathering of vultures is known as a “wake”, which reflects that connection to death and the preparation for rebirth.
Indeed, the very first day of the Kib’ trecena (One Kib’) often reveals the nature of whatever it is that will need to be addressed, in order for amelioration to occur. Through making clear the nature of the problem, the first day of this period (representing the “initiation of the restoration of order”), often marks the beginning of a time frame that will involve “really getting down to business” in order to turn the tide.
We could see this eight cycles ago, in early 2020, when ingenuity and “quick thinking” were rapidly called into play during this period, and humungous numbers of people were required to make huge adjustments to their lives due to the rapid spread of Covid-19. That was when the World Health Organization formally declared a global pandemic and called for governments to take “urgent action”.
Indeed, many big changes have been made during this trecena in the past, and people with integrity have stepped forward, as could be seen on the first day of this trecena in 1987 when President Reagan challenged President Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. In 2009 this was the trecena in place when the U.S. and Russia mutually agreed to reduce nuclear arsenals, which set the course to replace the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. In 1972 this was in place when the U.S. pulled out of Vietnam, and again in 2021 when the U.S. pulled out of Afghanistan.
Four cycles ago global support for Ukraine intensified significantly as billions in military aid and equipment, such as tanks, were pledged to assist Ukraine, which helped them make progress in pushing back against Russia, even though the war continued. Three cycles ago that early support turned into a unified commitment, becoming Europe’s top priority.
With regard to Gaza, with a somewhat shaky ceasefire now in place, attention is now focusing on the aftermath of the war. The situation continues to be highly problematic, as Israel continues to limit humanitarian aid, and continues attacks on the West Bank. As Palestinians are not happy with current proposals that could involve an international governing board and stabilisation force to oversee Gaza, particularly if they involve arrangements that could be imposed upon Palestinians without their consent, there is clearly much that will need to be negotiated in order to develop workable and practical solutions to all the needs associated with that besieged region.
In the U.S., the first day of this trecena will find millions of people preparing for the three days of Direct Action that will immediately follow, when large groups of people will be lobbying Congress and staging massive protests to demand the impeachment and removal of Trump. They have clearly had enough of all the lies and all the cruelty that have become the stock-in-trade of Trump 2.0.

Keep in mind that this trecena always holds great potential for illumination and pathfinding, and for the development of practical approaches to dealing with even the most challenging of issues – all oriented around transmutation and, ultimately, the “restoration of order”. Here are the energies that are coming into play:
One Kib’ (Nov. 19th) – the “initiation” of the “practically”-oriented transmutation force that could lead towards a restoration of order, coinciding at this time with the New Moon and International Men’s Day, with this year’s dual theme of “Supporting Men and Boys” and “Celebrating Men and Boys”, to highlight positive contributions and promote their health and well-being.
Note that in the spring of 2010 this was the energy in place when The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was signed into law in the U.S. by President Obama. Ten years later the first day of this trecena became the “turning point” day for Joe Biden when he won several state primaries, making it clear that he would become the Democrat’s presidential nominee for 2020.
Unfortunately things took a downward turn one cycle ago when the tyrant who had recently taken over the White House delivered a highly narcissistic speech to a joint session of Congress, during which he flaunted his so-called “achievements” and tried to wield authority over other branches of government, including the courts. That speech vividly illustrated what Atlantic writer Brian Klaas had written about exactly three cycles earlier, on One Kib’ in 2023, when he discussed how the Banality of Crazy had warped American politics, as few voters at that time were recognizing “just how deranged, delusional, and dangerous” Trump was, as Klaas called out the press for losing “all sense of scale and perspective” and failing to meet the moment. However, things have changed dramatically since then, as this day brings a new moment – the moment when Trump signs the congressional bill that will authorize the release of the infamous Epstein Files, which he has worked for decades to stifle.
It has now been one full 260-day cycle since that horrific speech last March, when the dumpster launched a trade war against Canada, Mexico, and China. But that was also the day when significant pushback began to be seen on multiple fronts, which was summed up well by Lawrence O’Donnell who said: “the imposing of tariffs is the most profoundly stupid economic idea ever advanced by a U.S. president”.
On that same day (last March) a summit of Arab League representatives was convening in Cairo to counter Trump’s threats to take over Gaza and expel Palestinians from their land, and French politician Claude Malhuret was telling the French Senate that “Washington has become the court of Nero, a fiery emperor, submissive courtiers and a ketamine-fueled jester in charge of purging the civil service. . . . .”, as he highlighted how Europe must rebuild its own defense capabilities in the face of a crumbling American shield. On multiple fronts, in multiple ways, it seemed that people were waking up and beginning to rally defenses.
2 Kab’an (Nov. 20th) – a “dynamic” type of energy related to the earth, or “earth movement”, and even movement of an “evolutionary” nature, as was in place in 1968 when Douglas C. Engelbart gave a 90-minute demonstration at the Fall Joint Computer Conference in San Francisco that included the world’s first mouse and word processor, key to the huge transition into the now ubiquitous use of computer technologies.
Currently this is the start of three days of Direct Action in the U.S., when large groups of people will be lobbying Congress to demand the impeachment and removal of Dmp. As it happens, this is marking three cycles (780 days) exactly since the start of the Trump Organization’s civil trial in New York in 2023, to settle questions related to the fraud case brought by New York attorney general, Letitia James. As the trial unfolded, overwhelming evidence was presented that exposed that company as being completely fraudulent.
It is also International Children’s Day – a day to promote the welfare of children around the world, now marking the 36th anniversary of the adoption, by the UN General Assembly, of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
In addition, this is:
- the International Transgender Day of Remembrance – to remember those who have been lost as a result of transphobia.
- the UN’s World Philosophy Day, with its emphasis on highlighting the contributions of philosophical knowledge, critical thinking, and thoughtful reflection in addressing global issues.
- Revolution Day in Mexico, a public holiday on the 115th Gregorian anniversary of the start of the Mexican revolution in 1910.
- Black Consciousness Day in Brazil (aka Black Awareness Day) in recognition of Afro-Brazilians and their struggle to achieve racial equality
- the Washington Post’s Global Women’s Summit, divided into four tracks: power, influence, innovation and inspiration.
- President Biden’s 83rd birthday
- what would have been the 78th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
- the 27th Gregorian anniversary of the launch of the Zarya Module in 1998, the first component of the International Space station.
This day also marks eight Tzolk’in cycles precicely since the WHO declared a global pandemic in 2020 and called for governments to take “urgent action” against the coronavirus. Contrast this with the dumpster’s devastating executive orders earlier this year to withdraw the U.S. from the WHO and stop the CDC from even communicating with them, which has had enormous consequences in terms of global health and security.
3 Etz’nab’ (Nov. 21st) – the “activation” of a sparkling, “knife-edged” type of energy that can dazzle, shock, and/or begin a separation process, coinciding with the second of three days of Direct Action in the U.S., when training sessions will be provided to help citizens lobby for impeachment, in their effort to lobby Congress to demand Trump’s removal. This is also the conclusion day for COP30, so it is likely some major announcements will be made at this time.

In addition, this is Ukraine’s annual Day of Dignity and Freedom, marking the 12th anniversary of the Maidan Uprising in 2013, the pro-European Union protests that became known as the Maidan Revolution or Revolution of Dignity.
It has now been three cycles since Kevin McCarthy was ousted as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, the first time in U.S. history that a speaker was ousted by his own party. That was seen as a “complete meltdown” day for the Republican party, and the splintering has continued ever since, particularly with current Speaker Mike Johnson’s efforts to stall the vote on releasing the Epstein files by keeping the House out-of-session for weeks on end.
It has now been eight cycles exactly since “America shut down”, as theatres, museums, restaurants, entertainment venues, colleges and school districts across the US closed up; and many other events were cancelled or postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic. But currently, this is the release day for the sparkling Wicked for Good IMAX movie, a kind of mythic prequel to the Wizard of Oz.
4 Kawak (Nov. 22nd) – a “defining” type of energy aligned with “storm”, representative of the sun working together with the energy of intense rain, which can sometimes manifest as a “storm of compassion”. One of the five key energies located at the centre of the Aztec Sun Stone, this day is currently coinciding with the 62nd anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963.
This is the day for a huge 11:22 We the People march in Washington D.C., and rally featuring headline speakers at Lincoln Memorial to demand the impeachment and removal of Trump. It is also marking five Tzolk’in cycles since
the grand jury was impanelled in the Fulton County, Georgia case in 2022, pertaining to the dumpster’s (and his cronies) attempted meddling with the results of the 2020 U.S. election. Political machinations have severely limited the forward motion of that case as well as several others.
In Johannesburg, South Africa, this is the start of the two-day G20 meeting of world leaders from 19 countries in addition to the EU, who will have their work cut out for them.
5 Ajaw (Nov. 23rd) – the “blessing of enlightenment”, a “full sun” day associated with
an Aztec deity known as Five Flower (Macuil Xochitl in Nahuatl), a patron of games,
music, and pleasure. Aligned with the sun, this often manifests as “enlightenment breaking through” in some way, but it can also bring forth a great deal of heat. Given all that Direct Action by protesters in Washington, there could be some “enlightened” follow-up taking place at this time, as well as preparation for the third “Surround the White House 1.0” nonviolent protest.
This is the Maya birth energy of Dr. Peter Bryce, the Canadian public health physician who brought attention to the mistreatment of indigenous children in Indian residential schools during the early 20th century.
6 Imix (Nov. 24th) – an “everywhere” type of energy associated with “birth”, which can sometimes foment chaos as some new order of being is manifested, now coinciding with the opening of the 20th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) (to Dec. 5th).
It has now been ten cycles exactly since huge migrant caravans began trekking north from Central America towards the U.S. border in 2018. This was also the energy in place at the time of the terrorist attack on, and demolition of, the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001 – something the dumpster seems to have forgotten as he lavishly entertained that Saudi leader at the White House on the same day as Epstein survivors were working with Congress towards the Epstein files vote.
7 Ik’ (Nov. 25th) – “self-generating” wind/breath/spirit, coinciding at this time with Saint Catherine feast day, with Saint Catherine seen as the patron saint of students, philosophers, and unmarried women. It is also the UN’s International Day for the
Elimination of Violence Against Women and the first day of the IWDA’s 16 Days of Activism campaign leading up to World Human Rights Day on Dec. 10th.
In the U.S., this day marks seven cycles exactly since early December, 2020 when then-U.S. Attorney-General Barr said that there was no evidence of fraud in the 2020 election, a statement that preceded his resignation and the concoction of the BIG Lie on the part of the dumpster and his allies that led to the Jan. 6th insurrection and its aftermath. At that time Georgia’s voting systems implementation manager angrily admonished Republicans for spreading these lies, and specifically called upon the dumpster to “stop inspiring people to commit potential acts of violence”. This eventually led to the impanelling of that Georgia grand jury to investigate these issues, and the eventual indictments that followed. The last time this was in place the United States was added to the Civicus Monitor Watchlist, which identifies countries that the global civil rights watchdog believes are currently experiencing a rapid decline in civic freedoms.
This day is also marking three full 260-day cycles since the Hamas attack on Israel in 2023, when about 1,200 people were killed and 251 hostages taken, triggering the Gaza-Israeli war. Since then nearly 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks, and close to 2,000 Israeli and foreign nationals.
8 Ak’b’al (Nov. 26th) – a “resurrection” or “renewal” type of energy associated with “temple” or “ house”, “darkness”, and deep esoteric mysteries, marking three cycles exactly since Israel formally declared war on Gaza on what, at that time, became the deadliest day for Israel since the 1973 war.
The last time this was in place (last March) French President Emmanuel Macron and the chiefs of staff from 34 countries (EU, NATO, + Japan) met in Paris to work out the details of a potential peacekeeping force for Ukraine. That plan has now been developed and is ready to be implemented as soon as a ceasefire can be established.
9 K’an (Nov. 27th) – representative of “outwardly-projecting” longevity in association with Germination, coinciding at this time with Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. For Native Americans in the U.S. this is often seen as a National Day of Mourning to dispel myths surrounding the Thanksgiving story and raise awareness about historical and ongoing struggles facing Native American tribal groups.

In Vancouver this is the day when St. Paul’s Hospital lights up its huge Lights of Hope display, as part of its fundraising campaign for the following year.
This marks six years since environmental scientists put forward an urgent international Call for Action, as they warned that the world may have already crossed a series of climate tipping points, posing a risk that is “an existential threat to civilization”. By this time, hopefully, the results of COP30 will be known, and recommendations for current action will be provided.
Currently this day marks three cycles since Israel ordered a “complete seige” of Gaza, closing off food, fuel, water, and electricity supplies. And even though a ceasefire is currently in place Israel has been restricting aid into the area. Hopefully, by this time, many of those restrictions will have been lifted.
10 Chikchan (Nov. 28th) – a Burner Day associated with “Foundational Lifeforce, Liberation, and Higher Consciousness” that is often quite intense, now coinciding with Hawaii’s Independence Day, Native American Heritage Day, and Black Friday, which used to be the biggest shopping day of the year in the U.S., but much of this is now done on-line instead. Increasingly, this has become known as Buy Nothing Day, an international day of protest against consumerism.
Note that 10 Chikchan is a kind of “seesaw” force that represents a balancing between Death (10) and Life (Chikchan), so the choices made at this time can be highly consequential. This was the energy in place eight cycles ago when the dumpster in the White House told journalist Bob Woodward that his first instinct regarding the coronavirus was to “always play it down”. But after that millions of people in the U.S. became infected, and well over a million in that country alone lost their lives to it.
In 1980 this was the energy in place when the World Health Organization announced that smallpox has been eradicated. The last time this was in place two federal judges in the U.S. ordered the reinstatement of all fired federal workers in all government departments.
11 Kimi (Nov. 29th) – a “change-related” type of energy associated with death/new foundations, coinciding with the UN’s International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, an annual commemoration of the 1947 UN partition resolution for Palestine. At this time the focus will surely be on the push for greater humanitarian aid to be allowed into the region.
In 1922 this was in place at the time of the proclamation of the British mandate in Palestine, at a ceremony in Jerusalem. This triggered a situation in which more than 3 million Palestinians were made homeless and more than 100,000 were killed by British, American, and Israeli soldiers to make room for Jewish settlers, in contravention of international law. And then came the atrocities of the recent Israel-Gaza war and the devastating situation that exists in Gaza as a result of that horrific conflict. Why have world leaders allowed such atrocities to happen?
Currently this is also International Jaguar Day, highlighting conservation efforts to
preserve and protect this amazing species.
At this point it has been 14 Tzolk’in cycles (14 x 260) since 196 nations involved in the COP21 (Climate Change Conference) in Paris, in 2015, voted to approve an historic global accord to fight climate change, signalling an end to the fossil fuel era, as they committed for the first time to a universal agreement that has the goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions and limiting temperature rises. As we all know, politics, the pandemic, and wars have all played havoc with that goal.
12 Manik’ (Nov. 30th) – a “gathering together” type of energy associated with reciprocity, marking the end of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, and marking three years since the launch of ChatGPT – OpenAI, which immediately went viral, attracting over one million users within the first five days.
In the spring of 1968 this was the energy in place when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his memorable “I’ve been to the mountaintop” speech the day before his assassination.
Currently this is the unstoppable Sir Ridley Scott’s 88h Gregorian birthday. Sir Ridley’s epic Napoleon movie was released in 2023, and his Gladiator 2 movie was released just over a year ago. This would have been Shirley Chisholm’s 101st birthday. She was the first Black woman to be elected to the U.S. Congress.
This day is marking six cycles since Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine received full approval from the US FDA, the first one to be licensed in the US.

World AIDS Day poster from the Philadelphia Center (NW Louisiana HIV/AIDS resource center) World AIDS Day is December 1st.
13 Lamat (December 1st) – “transformational star”, an intense and often highly consequential “heralding” type of force, coinciding at this time with Cyber Monday and with World AIDS Day, which provides “an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness”, with this year’s theme being “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response”.
Three cycles ago, in October of 2023, this was the energy in place when Israel ordered over one million people in northern Gaza (including Gaza City) to relocate to the south within the following 24 hours, as hundreds of thousands of Israeli soldiers amassed on the border ahead of an expected ground offensive into the densely populated enclave. They were also enforcing a total blockade of fuel, food, and water. Shortly thereafter Israeli airstrikes attacked convoys of Palestinian evacuees heading south, and began attacking the very regions that they had previously referred to as being “safe”. At that time a “Day of Rage” broke out across the Middle East and beyond, as tens of thousands of people denounced Israel and demanded an end to the fighting.
This was also the energy in place at the end of the U.S. involvement in Vietnam, when the last remaining U.S. combat soldiers left Vietnam in 1973, (but after that was the Fall of Saigon – see 8 Ok) and also near the end of Kabul evacuations in 2021, when U.S. forces airlifted some 19,000 people out of Kabul over a 24 hour period. It was also in place in 1968 at the time of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The BepiColombo spacecraft was launched under this influence in 2018. It is now on its final approach to Mercury, and is expected to enter Mercury’s orbit in late 2026.
Currently this is Bette Midler’s 80th birthday. Happy birthday Bette!
