Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

Everyone could see it coming – it has been brewing and stewing for years. Many did not believe that a tornado of this magnitude could hit a second time, but it did on election day in November of 2024, and one cycle (260 days) ago the world was reeling from the impact and trying to come to grips with the implications.

Indeed, as this Kawak (Storm) trecena opened early last November, as Cuba was scrambling to deal with the aftermath of a severe hurricane that had struck the day before, and the northern Pacific was bracing for the impact of a super typhoon, the world was in a state of shock and profound disbelief as it became evident that American citizens had re-elected a convicted felon, fraudster, rapist, misogynist, xenophobe, serial liar, insurrectionist, and self-proclaimed admirer of cruel autocrats as their next president.

This vulgarian had already been impeached twice, and he had professed that he wanted to trash the US health care system, destabilize the education system, block or undo civil liberties, disregard or override the US constitution, deport millions of people, punish enemies, and become a “dictator on day one”. He had already trampled over multiple norms of decency, respect, and rationality, and proven, time and time again, to be the most inept, unfit and unstable person to ever sit behind the resolute desk. And yet, like a dark and menacing storm cloud, the spectre of what was to come emerged at the beginning of this time frame one cycle ago, ready and eager to begin a slash and burn campaign that would tear through the lives and careers of thousands of people – a campaign of terror that would be much worse than the first go-round; a campaign of terror that would destroy lives and rip away support systems that had been lifelines for thousands of people. It was as if the world had been hit by a huge bomb, and the fallout over the past 260 days has been incalculably devastating.

But this time . . . this time the storm that is brewing is of an entirely different nature. For many, including thousands of previous supporters, the blinders are finally coming off and people are seeing, perhaps for the first time, the true nature of the beast. This trecena is likely to trigger deep emotions that could bring forth torrents of tears as more and more information is revealed about the beast’s depraved association with a now-deceased child predator. While this could be a dark and very stormy time frame for many, it could also be the storm that brings a much needed clearing.

Indeed, in the past “waves of accountability” have washed through this time frame, as seen in 2019 when Michael Cohen testified in an open hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee during which he accused the dumpster of being “a racist, a conman and a cheat” and implied that he was involved in federal crimes while in office. This was seen as a “delicate and pivotal moment in history” as Cohen “unlocked the door” and shed light on a wide range of fraudulent activities and wrongdoings associated with the dumpster that have subsequently led to various trials and convictions. One cycle later several of the dumpster’s associates were convicted of crimes, and the first impeachment hearings were underway.

Three cycles ago, in June of 2023, various investigative efforts culminated in the dumpster offically becoming “defendant Trump”, as the US justice system clicked in with a torrent of actions. Special Counsel Jack Smith announced a 37-count indictment against him relating to the “wilful retention of national defence information under the Espionage Act”, which was followed by Trump’s arraignment in Miami. At the same time the go-ahead was given for E. Jean Carroll to pursue her defamation case against him (which she won, and kept winning during appeals).

So it appears that one of the biggest storms brewing at this time is the political storm related to the infamous Epstein files, and many of Trump’s previously staunch supporters  are now turning against him as his lies and deception come back to haunt him. There is also the potential for some severe “tariff storms”, as oral arguments by an appellate court are scheduled to be heard in the US during this period relating to the legality (or not) of US tariffs, and previously set deadlines for “deal-making” are due to expire. American border communities are particularly up-in-arms over this issue as they are being severely affected by this trade war.

And while mid summer is not typically a storm season, there is always the potential for weather-related storms during this particular energy period, as this was traditionally seen as a time frame that is under the auspices of Tláloc, the Aztec god of rain (known as Chac to the Maya). As has often been in evidence, Chac often announces his presence at the start of this period in dramatic, sometimes highly tempestuous, ways, as happened in September of 2022, when Hurricane Fiona brought devastation to the Dominican Republic and lashed Puerto Rico, at the same time as Typhoon Nanmadol pounded Japan with high winds and torrential rains and a 7.6 earthquake shook western Mexico.

Adaptation of the Kawak trecena from the pre-Columbian Codex Borgia by artist Richard Balthazar (used with permission). The first day (One Kawak or “One Storm”) is represented by the little head of Tlaloc (equivalent to the Maya rain god Chac) at the bottom right corner (within the border). Each of the remaining days proceed around the edge from there towards the left, ending with 13 Chuwen (Monkey), depicted as the head of a monkey, at the upper left corner. In the centre on the right is Tlaloc, the Aztec god of rains and storms, the chief patron of this trecena. This is a time frame that has the potential to be benevolent, but these energies can also be volatile and changeable, and even very “stormy”. Click here for an overview of Richard’s various other versions of the same trecena.

Three cycles ago the powerful and erratic Cyclone Biparjay, that traversed almost this entire time frame, brought widespread destruction to Pakistan and many parts of India. Back in 2014 this Kawak trecena brought forth “the worst snowstorm in recorded history” in the New York area, dumping nearly 8 feet of snow in the Buffalo region. Very significantly, this was the period during which Hurricane Katrina inundated New Orleans in 2005, during the last three days of this time frame. As noted below, the energy of 11 Muluk, an intense water-related force that comes in near the end of this trecena, is particularly prone to “major water-related” events. Indeed, right on schedule, that was the force that brought Super Typhoon Man-Yi to the Philippines one cycle ago (last November). And now, as this Kawak energy returns, three typhoons are forming near South Korea, and are advancing towards the peninsula, at the same time as Typhoon Emong is careening through the Philippines.

But as much as this “storm” idea can manifest in very literal ways, as seen in events associated with clouds, lightning, thunder, and heavy rainfall, events during this Kawak trecena can play out in a multitude of ways, often precipitating compassion or strong emotion. In September of 2022 this could be seen on a wide scale at the time of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on the first day of this period, exactly two cycles after Prince Phillip’s funeral that took place during the height of the pandemic. Is it “mere coincidence” that Diana, Princess of Wales, was born under the same energy influence, in 1961?

Looking back, we see that the catalyzation process triggered by these intense energies can take many forms. In 1944, for example, this trecena brought forth the greatest amphibious invasion in history, on a day now referred to as D-Day, as allied forces landed in Normandy on the life-oriented mid-point of this trecena, marking the beginning of European liberation.

In the summer of 1963 this trecena had triggered the first national integrated civil rights march in U.S. history. In 2022 the trial related to the death of George Floyd, that took place during this trecena, became a pivotal episode related to the Black Lives Matter movement. In 2017 President Obama delivered his poignant farewell address as president on the third day of this period, as the world waited in fear of the dark “Maga” storms that were looming on the horizon. Similarly, it was the beginning of this trecena last November when President Biden addressed the nation and advocated a peaceful transfer of power, while providing the reminder that he was “leaving behind the strongest economy in the world”. He also said that “Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable. . . . The America of your dreams is calling for you to get back up.” These kinds of deeply emotional events are the kinds of matters that can lead to significant change.

Indeed, significant change (often water-related) often does happen during this time frame, as seen when the Nova Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River in Ukraine was destroyed by occupying Russian forces three cycles ago, in 2023. Hundreds of thousands of people were severely affected by the inundation of waters from that reservoir. Even now the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP), which relied on water from the reservoir behind the dam, is still in danger of over-heating as a result of that situation. But with Russia’s recent escalation of attacks against Ukrainian cities, and more and more defense systems being sent by various countries to bolster Ukraine’s fortifications, it seems that the storms of war will continue to rage in that region during this period. And then there are the unthinkable, unspeakable, ongoing tragedies in Gaza and in places such as Sudan. Can anyone, anywhere bring forth the assistance needed to bring these atrocities to an end?

While there is still no workable answer to that question, there certainly has been significant pushback against the perpetrators of these horrors, and against White House dictates. Indivisible continues to lead the way in terms of “people power” as it holds another “fight back” training series during this period. But what is really needed is torrents of compassion, torrents of indignation – the stormy, “take no prisoners”, kind of purposeful action that can move mountains and open the doors to freedom, caring for others, and the creation of nurturing stability. Seems like a long way away, but then this is the Kawak trecena, and “anything” can happen. Here are the energies that are coming into place:

One Kawak (July 25th) – the “initiation” of a “catalytic storm”, which often manifests as a “storm of emotion”, often bringing “floods of tears”. This was certainly the case one cycle ago, as the US presidential election results were confirmed and people worldwide were recoiling in horror at hearing the results – as Guardian columnist Rhiannon Lucy Cosslet wrote under the heading: “People around the world are appalled by Trump’s win”. She spoke of the “feeling of peril” that many American women would be having from this news, as well as the “body horror” that was being felt by the many others on Trump’s “hitlist of undesirables: immigrants, gay and transgender people, disabled people, protesters. Anyone capable of empathy . . . .” She was so right, as the horrors that have unfolded since then would have been unimaginable even at that shocking time.

Back in 2017, during the dumpster’s first administration, this was the energy in place when Americans in Puerto Rico were begging for federal aid as they faced a growing humanitarian crisis due to lack of adequate food, water, power, and fuel after being hit by Hurricane Maria. Back then Trump’s response was to highlight the island’s “massive debt”, blame the people for their own misfortune, and withhold greatly needed aid.

Two cycles after that, in 2019, during a hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee, former “fixer” Michael Cohen shed light on a wide range of fraudulent activities and wrongdoings associated with the dumpster, for which the latter was subsequently investigated, charged, and convicted. That was seen as a pivotal moment in history when much of the fraud and many of the conspiracies related to the Trump-world began to be exposed, and yet it all came storming back one cycle ago with those election results.

When this energy was in place in September of 2022, all eyes were on London as hundreds of heads of state and foreign dignitaries gathered inside Westminster Abbey for Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, to say farewell to the UK’s longest reigning monarch, which took place exactly two cycles after the funeral in April of 2021 for Prince Philip at Windsor Castle. This is also the Maya Calendar birth energy of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Three cycles ago, in June of 2023, this storm-related energy brought Russia’s destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River in Ukraine, when a massive flood of water was released from the reservoir, flooding dozens of villages and parts of the city of Kherson. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned this destruction as “an environmental bomb of mass destruction”, and vowed that Ukrainians would fight on to completely liberate their country from Russian occupiers. And the battle continues . . . .

Currently this is the third anniversary of the day when Pope Francis visited Maskwacis, the site of the former Ermineskin Residential School, one of the largest residential school sites in Canada, where he delivered a heartfelt apology for the horrific abuses suffered by First Nations children, for decades, in residential schools.

2 Ajaw (July 26th) – a dynamic type of energy aligned with the full sun, full power, and the idea of “enlightenment”, as was in place in 2013 when President Obama gave his address in East Berlin during which he outlined his vision for a safer, more cooperative world, to mark the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s 1963 speech. Currently this is coinciding with legendary rock musician Mick Jagger’s 82nd Gregorian birthday. Happy Birthday Sir Mick!

This is also marking five cycles since early 2022 when five of the world’s most powerful nations agreed that “a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought” in a rare joint pledge to reduce the risk of such a conflict ever starting. The pledge, called Joint Statement of the Leaders of the Five Nuclear-Weapon States on Preventing Nuclear War and Avoiding Arms Races, was signed by the US, Russia, China, the UK, and France, the five nuclear weapons states recognised by the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) who are also the five permanent members of the UN security council. They are known as the P5 or the N5. Problematically, however, there is the North Korea factor and the rogue nature of the current leadership of at least two of those countries.

3 Imix (July 27th) – the “activation” of “birth” or the realm of all potential, on the 72nd anniversary of the signing of the Korean War armistice, signed by 22 nations in 1953, which ended over three years of fighting on the Korean peninsula.

When this was in place early last year President Biden announced over 500 new sanctions against Russia, partly to “hold Russia accountable” for what happened to Alexei Navalny, Putin’s greatest critic, who died a few days earlier in a Russian prison. Four cycles ago (in 2022) both President Biden and Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy gave speeches at the UN, with a focus on war crimes perpetuated by Russia, at the same time as Putin was escalating his war against Ukraine. That was when Letitia James, New York State’s attorney general, filed a 222 page lawsuit against the dumpster, his children, and his family real estate business, accusing them of an “astonishing” pattern of fraud. When the trial concluded just over two cycles ago he was found guilty of fraud and required to pay over $450 million in fines.

This also marks twelve terrifying cycles since President Obama’s poignant farewell address to the nation in January of 2017.

In the Maya Calendar this is the last day of the Maya month of Xul, traditionally associated with Kukulcan (known as Quetzalcóatl to the Aztec), the great Feathered Serpent, who was thought to descend from the heavens to collect offerings at the end of this Maya month.

4 Ik’ (July 28th) – the “defining” of wind/breath/spirit; an important energy associated with communication, symbolized by the mythological connection between the sun and the wind oriented deity known as Quetzalcoatl/Feathered Serpent. This is one of the five energies at the centre of the Aztec Sun Stone. It is also the birth energy of Nahui Ehécatl (4 Wind aka 4 Ik’), one of the patrons of this time frame, coinciding at this time with the peak of the Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower.

This is World Nature Conservation Day, dedicated to raising awareness about the need for the protection of nature and its resources. The theme this year is: “Connecting People and Plants, Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”.

This marks five cycles since US Attorney General Merrick Garland affirmed, in January of 2022, that the US Justice Department was committed to defending democracy and to holding all perpetrators of the January 6th insurrection, at any level, accountable under law — whether they were present that day or were otherwise criminally responsible for the assault on democracy. Then, two cycles after that announcement, Special Counsel Jack Smith announced the 37-count indictment against Dump pertaining to the squirrelling away of federal documents, charging him with the “wilful retention of national defence information under the Espionage Act”. That case was dismissed by a judge on a questionable technicality, and would certainly not be revived during the Trump 2.0 tenure. And the assault on democracy continues . . . .

5 Ak’b’al (July 29th) the “pinpointing” of deep esoteric mysteries (or even “darkness”) – an energy that could also be seen as a “targeting” type of energy associated with “House or Temple”, as was in place early in 2019 when the House Judiciary Committee in the U.S. formally began gathering proof of obstruction of justice, corruption, and abuses of power with regard to the dumpster’s administration. While much of that is now on hold, it is evident these days, that the emphasis is again on cover-up, the hiding of abuses, and retribution.

Five cycles ago this energy was in place at the time of the release of The Insurrection Index that contains 1,404 records of people in positions of trust who acted as accomplices in Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election, by either participating directly in the insurrection or by spreading the “big lie” that the vote count had been rigged. Many of those people were indicted – but then came the pardons, as soon as he took office again.

Back in June of 1944 this was the energy in place when the US seized a German U-boat, allowing the US access to all the secret information that it was carrying, including Nazi codebooks. In 2005 this was the energy in place when the weather system that turned into Hurricane Katrina began forming as a Tropical Depression.

6 K’an (July 30th) – a “six directions” type of energy aligned with “youthful vitality”, and often associated with great wealth – often manifesting as an energy that can impact great wealth. Indeed, the last time this was in place the dumpster announced that Elon Musk, Tesla CEO and X owner, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, would lead a new Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. As there was no such federal department, the two were to work from outside the government to provide “advice and guidance”. As Lawrence O’Donnell commented, this was a “humiliating demotion” for Musk, the world’s wealthiest person.  Shortly thereafter Ramaswamy disappeared, and Musk went on to sadistically demolish whole government departments prior to a huge blow-up with Trump. Surprise, Surprise!

In 2019 this was the energy in place at the time of the publication of A Warning, which offered “an unprecedented behind-the-scenes portrait of the Trump presidency”, written by someone who identified himself as part of the “Resistance Inside the Trump Administration”. This took place at the same time as “stormy” impeachment hearings were underway over the dumpster’s attempt to coerce the president of Ukraine.

The last time this was in place Judge Juan Merchan delayed his decision regarding the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling in the hush money/falsification of records case – the case in which Trump was found guilty of felony falsification of business records.

In 2005 this was the energy that was turning Katrina into a Tropical Storm (pre-hurricane) at the same time as an extreme solar geomagnetic storm was triggered.

Currently this is the day when Indivisible is holding its One Million Rising virtual event, focusing on strategic planning to fight authoritarianism.

A virtual event by Indivisible, to be held on July 30th, as part of their organization efforts to fight authoritarianism

7 Chikchan (July 31st) – a self-generating Liberation/Lifeforce type of energy, seen traditionally as the daysign of Chicomecóatl, the Aztec Goddess of agriculture (especially maize) which was representative of the more positive aspects of this time frame, with its potential for providing conditions that are favorable for bringing forth nourishment.

Caribana – North American’s biggest Caribbean Carnival. Photo credit: CaribanaToronto

Currently this is the coinciding with the opening day for Toronto’s Caribana 2025, North America’s largest Caribbean carnival. It is also the day when oral arguments by an appellate court are scheduled to be heard in the US relating the legality (or not) of US tariffs. If these hearings go ahead there could be major consequences as the freeze on US tariffs is due to expire the following day.

Note that this can also be an intense energy, as seen in 1985 when a devastating 8.1 earthquake struck Mexico City under this influence, collapsing over 400 buildings and killing at least 5,000 people.

This is an energy that can also quickly generate strong winds, as it did in September of 2022 when thousands of people were evacuated as Super Typhoon Noru (Cat. 5) battered the Philippines eastern islands with gusts of up to 195 km/hr (125mph) after an “explosive intensification”.

In 1944 the greatest amphibious assault in history, known as D-Day, took place under this influence, marking the beginning of European liberation near the end of World War II.

8 Kimi (Aug. 1st) – a “resurrection” type of energy associated with “death” or “absolute spiritual foundations”, now marking three cycles exactly since Trump was arraigned in court in Miami on charges relating to his hoarding of classified government documents. That was the first-ever federal indictment of a former president. Two cycles ago he was also under indictment in New York for the hush-money scheme, and on that same day an Illinois judge barred Trump from being on the state’s primary ballot, after ruling that he engaged in insurrection. However, the ruling was put on hold pending an appeal.

This marks one terrifying cycle since anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was named to become the head of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025

Currently this is Emancipation Day in Canada, commemorating the day in 1834 when the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect across the British Empire. In Scotland, this is the opening day for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, referred to as “the greatest celebration of arts and culture on the planet”. This is a festival that dates back to 1947, when eight theatre groups showed up to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival. Since they weren’t officially invited to the Festival they staged their own shows on the “fringe”. The vision of “giving anyone a stage and everyone a seat” continues.

9 Manik’ (Aug. 2nd) – an “outwardly projecting” type of energy associated with harmonization and reciprocity, but sometimes with a “sacrificial” aspect, coinciding at this time with the start of Edmonton’s Heritage Festival, a three-day multicultural celebration.

This was the Maya calendar energy in place in 1963 when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his memorable “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial during the first national integrated civil rights march in the U.S., the largest civil rights rally in U.S. history. To the consternation of his family, all government records pertaining to Dr. King were released near the end of the last trecena, which many saw as an attempt to divert attention away from the Epstein scandal.

10 Lamat (Aug. 3rd) “foundational bright star” – a fundamental “signalling” type of energy which also has a tendency to “kick up a storm”, as many severe storms have been in effect under this influence. Currently this is the day of Vancouver’s Pride parade, at the start of Vancouver’s Pride Festival weekend, at the same time as Toronto will be showcasing wildly costumed masqueraders as they take part in the Caribana Grande Parade.

This would have been the legendary Tony Bennett’s 99th Gregorian birthday. Eight years ago Tony was awarded the US Library of Congress Gershwin prize for his lifetime contributions to music.

In 1918 this was the energy in place when the Representation of the People Act came into effect that extended the vote to 8.4 million women in the UK over the age of 30.

11 Muluk (Aug. 4th) – the “change” in conjunction with “water” energy that has brought forth many very intense water related events in the past, such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In 2017 this was in place when the fast moving Hurricane Nate reached hurricane strength in the Gulf of Mexico, before making landfall near the Mississippi Delta two days later. In Nov. 2019, this 11 Muluk energy brought storms of “biblical proportions” that swept through France, Greece, and Italy, triggering landslides, flash floods, and black-outs. Seven cycles ago there were widespread floods in Kerala, India at the same time as a devastating derecho ripped through Iowa. Six cycles ago Super Typhoon Surigae explosively intensified into a bomb cyclone under this influence, near the Aleutian Islands, and five cycles ago this energy brought a gargantuan “atmospheric river” to B.C., which resulted in devastating flooding. Four cycles ago, in September of 2022, Hurricane Ian tracked across central Florida, leaving a trail of destruction, at the same time as Typhoon Noru brought heavy rains and thunderstorms to Thailand. And three cycles ago (in 2023) millions of people across India and Pakistan were dealing with the effects of Cyclone Biparjoy. This is definitely not an energy to be trifled with.

Currently this is coinciding with civic/provincial holidays in several provinces, including B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories. It is also the 111th anniversary of Germany’s invasion of Belgium at the start of WWI in 1914, and Britain’s declaration of war against Germany. It is also former President Barack Obama’s 64th Gregorian birthday.

12 Ok (Aug. 5th) – a “grouping together” energy associated with love, warmth, and guidance – and sometimes even fire, coinciding at this time with the opening of the final round of negotiations on a legally binding UN treaty to end plastic pollution, a summit at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, that runs through to August 14th. This is an extension of earlier summits that were working on policies and strategies for eliminating plastic pollution by 2040.

Plastics in Kanapou Bay, Kaho‘olawe, Hawaii by NOAA’s National Ocean Service

13 Chuwen (Aug. 6th) – “transformational monkey” or “transformational play”, an intense and highly creative “time weaving” type of energy, sometimes referred to as “Thirteen Threads”; a powerfully innovative type of force traditionally aligned with play, creativity, “time-weaving”, and even (at times) intense “trickery”. This is the kind of energy that can sometimes prompt one into thinking differently or trying out new possibilities, as was in place on Jan. 20th, 2017 at the time of the dumpster’s inauguration amid a massive demonstration of resistance by some 60 large protest groups. That was the same day as New York’s Department of Financial Services fined Deutsche Bank $425 million for its involvement in a money-laundering scheme using mirror-trading that improperly shifted $10 million out of Russia. That was the same bank that had loaned millions to the dumpster.

When this energy was in place two cycles ago (in 2024) the US Supreme Court decided the “eligibility” issue with regard to the presidential election by ruling that Trump could remain on the ballot, overturning a 4-3 ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court that had stated that he could not run because he had engaged in insurrection. That day was to be the start date for the dumpster’s trial in the DC federal insurrection/election subversion case (re Jan. 6th). However, that date was postponed, and is still awaiting a Supreme Court ruling. Don’t hold your breath on this one.

Currently this is the 60th anniversary of the signing into law of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 by President Johnson. It is also the 80th anniversary of the day when an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the first such event in human history.
