“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times . . . . it was the epoch of incredulity”. When Charle Dickens penned those words in the 19th century he never could have imagined the incredulous nature of these times. And in many ways, that huge dichotomy between “best” and “worst” will be playing out vividly within the context of the 13 days within this time frame. The “worst” pertains to the on-going horrors in the US, including the barbarous (and sometimes even deadly) attacks on innocent citizens at the hands of federal agents, as well as in places still in the throes of savage wars. The “best” could be experienced by those fortunate enough to attend the many, many life-enhancing celebrations and magical global events that are scheduled for this current period. And while both extremes will play out during this energy sequence, keep in mind that this Ix (Jaguar) trecena is one of those sequences within the 260 day cycle that tends to be particularly consequential when it comes to shaping or fomenting significant changes in direction in world history.

Ix is an energy aligned not only with the magic and mysteries of the Earth, but also with the Maya mythological idea of the “Night Sun” and “terrestrial fire”, which often brings with it a considerable amount of “fire and fury” as the Jaguar “roars” and the earth rumbles. The last time this was in place (last May) the Jaguar was not roaring alone, but was joining forces with the roars of hundreds of thousands of people both in the US and worldwide who were strongly pushing back against authoritarianism – pushing, on a daily basis, for change.

As this trecena returns, One Ix is marking 74 Tzolk’in cycles precisely since The Washington Post published the blockbuster story in 1973 about President Richard Nixon having prior knowledge of the Watergate conspiracy, revealing that he was deeply involved in the coverup, including having knowledge of payments used to buy the silence of the Watergate conspirators. The following year, during this same trecena, there was an attempted assassination of President Nixon, and a federal grand jury indicted seven of Nixon’s aides on charges of conspiracy related to Watergate. That was when Nixon was named as an unindicted co-conspirator, which led to his impeachment process and to his eventual resignation.

As much as this Watergate scandal shocked and traumatized a nation, it now seems relatively minor when compared with the Trumpian scandals, with many of those also pivoting around key energies within this time frame. Incredibly, even The Washington Post is now crumbling, under the weight of owner Jeff Bezos’s association with the Trump administration. The day before this trecena began was seen as “among the darkest days in the history of one of the world’s greatest news organizations”, as hundreds of WAPO employees were laid off. This trecena is beginning with a demonstration in front of the Post’s Washington DC headquarters, to protest against those cuts.

Generally this tends to be a volatile period, with the Jaguar metaphor and its association with power, mystery, stealth, adaptability, high magic, and even mastery over things of an unseen nature, reminding us that this is a time frame associated with fearsome authority, unpredictability, and sudden transformation. It is not unusual to see a lot of “political maneuvering”, and sometimes outright power grabs, taking place during this period, reflective of the Jaguar’s significance as a major symbol of dominance in Maya mythology. Sudden change in political power often manifests at this time, and issues associated with political leadership often become particularly prominent. From the perspective of ancient mythology, it was thought that the fate of the world ties in with the whims of the Jaguar.

As seen in the past, the very first day of this trecena has often been a pivotal turning point in terms of the fate of nations, as seen during the French Revolution in the 18th century when some of the most significant events of that era took place under that “initiation of transformation” influence of One Ix. With regard to the US – in addition to 1973 events related to Nixon, this trecena has played a major role in the whole Trumpian saga going all the way back to 2016, as this was the trecena in place during the four-day lead-up to the 2016 election, the election itself, and the many days of massive anti-Trump protest demonstrations that followed.

Five cycles ago, in July of 2022, the Jan. 6th investigative committee relating to the attack on the US Capitol was highlighting what was referred to as the dumpster’s “Nero burning Rome” moment, emphasizing various ways in which he “poured gasoline on the fire” as he ignored pleas to stop the rioting, and chose to do nothing. In this regard, evidence was brought to the committee that underscored both his dereliction of duty and “criminal intent” (through refusal to act). Vice Chair Liz Cheney commented at the time that “the dam has begun to break” as a long list of crimes (including seditious conspiracy, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and insurrection) were identified. It took one more cycle before formal actions were taken, but in the spring of 2023, two days before this trecena began, a Manhattan Grand Jury voted to indict Dump, for his role in the hush money payment scheme, the first time in American history that a current or former president had faced criminal charges. Then five days later, on the third day of this time frame, he was formally arraigned in New York, charged with 34 felony counts of “falsifying business records in the first degree”, and concealing crimes in violation of election laws. After that, tragically and shamefully, the justice system moved at a snail’s pace, getting bogged down with delays, appeals, and even supreme court scandals and its ridiculous “presidential immunity” ruling, and eventually prosecutions got dropped after the 2024 election.

The fifth day of this period (5 Etz’nab’) has often been particularly consequential, as this is a “knife edge” type of force that holds the potential to bring things to a definitive conclusion, or to foment earth-shaking transformations. Many significant events “fateful” to nations have occurred under this 5 Etz’nab’ influence, including the official surrender of Japan at the end of World War II in 1945, the massive “Mobilization Peace” demonstrations in Washington, D.C in 1969 where hundreds of thousands protested against the Vietnam War, and the “complete meltdown” that unfolded at the start of a “summer of anarchy” in 2020, as people called for justice after the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer. The announcement of the formation of the Jan. 6th commission to investigate the attack on the Capitol came one cycle later, in 2021.

The trecena as a whole has brought forth the start of the Russian Revolution in 1917, the start of the London Blitz in 1940, the massive Tibetan uprising against Chinese aggression in Llasa that began under this influence in 1959, the start of coalition air strikes against terrorist groups in Syria in 2018, major climate change rallies and conferences, and Pope Francis’s visit to Canada in the summer of 2022 in association with reconciliation for Indigenous nations. Events associated with both of the dumpster’s impeachment trials have unfolded during this same time frame, as well as the “circus” relating to his arraignments in New York in 2023, and the pre-trial hearing in 2024 relating to the Jan. 6th case.

Keep in mind that during this period the “unseen” often plays an important role, and like the jaguar that can “sneak up” and dispatch its prey with one deadly pounce, unforeseen events can sometimes sneak up and change trajectories in highly significant ways.

As we forge ahead through this period we will be working under the auspices of Quetzalcóatl, the life-force (and justice-oriented) “twin” to the Jaguar, who serves as the patron energy for these thirteen days. As seen in the past, this is an energy combination that can bring forth high drama and head-spinning change, often related to issues associated with JUSTICE, at very high levels.

Of particular concern at the present time, however, is the highly problematic issue of federal checks and balances in the US being badly frayed, and, in some areas, demolished altogether. Certainly the immigration system has devolved to the point where federal agents themselves are acting as thugs and even murderers, and in many cities and towns people are living in terror. The Department of Justice has become the Department of Gross Injustice. But the people themselves are finding more and more ways to put up a united front, despite the horrendous abuses being inflicted upon them.

Globally, the Russia-Ukraine war still grinds on, even though “talks” are in the works, and similarly Israel continues to inflict atrocities on Palestinians, in various places.

So the battle for justice continues, and the need for people to be “jaguar warriors” is stronger than ever. As we go through this period there is no doubt that their fierce intent to maintain their freedoms and unhold human rights and basic civil liberties will give them the strength needed to push back against the forces of darkness.

Keep in mind that there are many powerful life-enhancing forces at work at this time as well. The Winter Olympics will play out throughout this period, and into the next. And there are a multitude of significant, large scale, magical, life-celebrating events taking places in various parts of the planet.

While it is advisable to keep an eye open for stealthy maneuvering during this period, particularly with regard to the orange felon and his cohorts, if those forces aligned with beauty, strength, resourcefulness, majesty, and magic are welcomed in, they could do wonders with regard to dispelling anxieties and fear, and could even engender the transformations that are so greatly needed at this time. Here are the energies that will be in play:

One Ix (Feb. 5th) – the “initiation” of the Jaguar’s power of transformation, at the start of the second trecena within this new cycle, currently coinciding with Mexico’s Constitution Day. This is a Mexican national holiday celebrating one of the world’s oldest constitutions, the Constitution of the United Mexican States, which was enacted on Feb. 5, 1917. This Constitution is seen as being the first to include sweeping social rights into its text.

In Washington DC the first day of this trecena will bring a demonstration in front of The Washington Post’s DC headquarters, to protest against the huge cuts that are being made that are significantly shrinking the scope of what was once a world-renowned news source. Back in 1973 this energy was in place when WAPO ran the head-spinning article about President Nixon’s alleged involvement in the coverup of the Watergate scandal, a story that revealed that Nixon had prior knowledge of payments used to buy the silence of the Watergate conspirators and of offers of executive clemency expended in his name. It was a scandal that shocked and traumatized a nation, eventually leading to Nixon’s resignation.

The gutting of WAPO is now a new shock to the nation, coinciding with an even more shocking scandal that is rocking that nation as more and more information is being released and examined about the infamous Epstein files and Trump’s connection with the Epstein network – all part of a long string of unfathomable events that are often highlighted within this Ix trecena. This first day of the trecena will also be a No Kings training day, in preparation for the Mar. 28th nationwide No Kings 3 protest, which is expected to be the biggest in American history, as US citizens strengthen their resolve to continue the pushback against the orange felon’s cruel and highly corrupt regime.

This is now marking seven cycles precisely (five years) since the Fulton County DA in Georgia opened a criminal inquiry into the dumpster’s call to try to overturn the results of the 2020 election, on the same day as prosecutors in the orange felon’s second impeachment trial were presenting evidence that Trump knowingly incited the Jan. 6th riot, as part of a long history of inciting violence, and that he also did nothing to stop it. And now, once again, another echo from the past is being revealed as Trump is now clearly indicating that his administration is planning to interfere with this year’s midterm elections and beyond.

Past events reveal that this is a trecena that often tends to shed considerable light on political power struggles, and power pushes, and indeed, the horrific Orange Grifter saga really began to be felt in earnest 13 cycles ago when this One Ix energy was in place just prior to the disastrous 2016 election. At that time many thought that his presidential candidacy was a joke, and yet, five days into the trecena, he won the election.

Five cycles ago (in 2022) the Jan. 6th committee was in full gear and more and more testimonies were revealing the various crimes associated with the insurrection attempt. Four cycles ago the New York justice system was closing in, in two directions, with the dumpster having just been indicted for hush money payments, when he was about to be charged with 34 felony counts for falsifying business records. After many more machinations over the following cycle, the judge in his civil fraud trial issued a blistering ruling that denied the grifter’s fifth attempt to end his civil fraud trial. That was three cycles ago. Two cycles (520 days) ago this trecena opened just two days before the pre-trial hearing in the federal election interference case. And even after all that, he returned to power, and – one cycle ago – was pushing a highly controversial tax bill that included enormous cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare, that would negatively affect millions of lower-income Americans. Protest against all this has now become a full-time occupation for many Americans.

2 Men (Feb. 6th) the “generation” of the Eagle’s “higher vision”, now marking 52 years since the US House voted to authorize the Judiciary Committee to investigate grounds for impeaching President Nixon.

Currently this is coinciding with the opening of Québec’s Winter Carnival, seen as “the largest and oldest winter carnival in the world”, and the opening of the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The opening ceremony takes place in Verona on this day.

It has now been seven cycles exactly since 2021 when more than 550 congressional staffers called on the Senate to convict the dumpster, in a statement that emphasized that they had all seen firsthand “the violence that was incited on [their] workplace.” This same energy was in place in 2022 when court filings revealed efforts that had been made by his cronies to keep secret more than 700 pages of handwritten notes, draft documents and daily logs related to the loss of the 2020 election, and to the events of January 6, 2021. And indeed, two cycles ago, the Orange Felon actually admitted, during a podcast interview, that he LOST the 2020 election – and yet he still keeps trying to change the narrative and the historical record.

In the US this is National Wear Red Day, in support of heart health. This would be a good time for congress to actually DO something about the political issues that have been endangering the hearts and health of hundreds of millions of people.

3 Kib’ (Feb. 7th) – an activation energy often associated with the “restoration of order”, coinciding with the opening day for the main events for the glorious Carnevale Di Venezia (Venice Carnival), one of the oldest and most spectacular carnivals in the world (to Feb. 17th).

The theme for this year’s carnival is “Olympus, the origins of play”. This grand festival includes the opulent and magnificent Carnival Costumes’ Show in St. Mark’s Square, the first of several days of “parading your magnificence”. This “main events” opening day is seen as the “Feast of the Marias” day, that involves a parade of the loveliest girls in Venice, who will be presented in St. Mark’s Square.

It has now been four cycles since Trump was formally arraigned in New York, charged with 34 felony counts of “falsifying business records in the first degree”, and concealing crimes in violation of election laws. That was the day when Finland formally joined NATO.

Two cycles ago (in September of 2024) a pre-trial hearing was held in the election interference case, to assess the differentiation between official and private acts with regard to the charges, after the supreme court’s ruling that “official acts” are immune to prosecution. Prosecutor Jack Smith had refiled the charges to focus more specifically on “personal, unofficial acts” related to election subversion attempts. The charges against the dumpster were narrowed to four: conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct, an official proceeding; and conspiracy against rights.

At this point it has been nine cycles exactly since the fall of 2019 when the House Judiciary Committee in the US held its first formal hearing on whether to recommend a formal impeachment inquiry with regard to the dumpster’s abuse of power and obstruction of Congress with regard to the Ukraine scandal, and seven cycles since his highly controversial acquittal by Republicans (on a technicality) during the unprecedented second impeachment trial in Feb. of 2021 – even though Senator McConnell said that he believed that the dumpster was practically and morally responsible for inciting the horrific attack on the US Capitol, calling his actions “a disgraceful dereliction of duty”. It was another point at which the dumpster COULD have been stopped, but wasn’t.

4 Kab’an (Feb. 8th) – a “defining” energy associated with evolutionary movement – the powerful energy carved into the centre of the Aztec Sun Stone, an energy that often brings forth highly dramatic events.

This is Superbowl Sunday in the U.S., where Puerto Rican reggaeton, rapper and singer Bad Bunny will perform at the half-time show, becoming the first Latino and Spanish-language artist to perform as a solo act at this event. Bad Bunny won a Grammy award for Album of the Year a few days earlier, making history with the first all-Spanish-language album of the year. At that time he also very publically denounced ICE, saying that

We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans. . . . . The only thing that’s more powerful than hate is love.    Bad Bunny, Feb. 1, 2026

He then dedicated his award “to all the people who had to leave their homeland, their country, to follow their dreams.”

For those more interested in the canine version, the Puppy Bowl is also taking place at that time, to raise awareness about pet adoptions.

In 1940 this was the energy in place on the night of “Black Saturday” (and into the early morning of the following day) when 348 German bombers dropped 337 tons of bombs on London, in the first mass air raid night of the “The Blitz”, when 430 civilians were killed and hundreds badly injured. This was followed by 57 consecutive nights of further bombing and several more months of attacks (overall a blistering 8 month long German bombing campaign). After that ghastly war who would have believed that this could happen again . . . but the Russia-Ukraine war rages on, and American citizens are under attack by their own government.

In North Korea this is Military Foundation Day, an annual public holiday that commemorates the founding of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army in 1932. This public holiday often involves a large military parade.

This is also the 94th Gregorian birthday of the celebrated (and legendary) composer John Williams, on the day when the Flight of the Angel takes place in St. Mark’s Square in Venice as part of Carnevale.

5 Etz’nab’ (Feb. 9th) – a “pinpointing”, knife-edged type of force symbolized by “flint”. This dazzling, often highly attention-getting, energy has a tendency to bring forth highly consequential events that can bring things to a definitive conclusion, as it did in 1945 with the official surrender of Japan at the end of World War II, and as it did in 2003 when President George W. Bush declared “Mission Accomplished” after the Iraq war.

Definitive (and often shocking) change often takes place under this influence, as seen in the events that unfolded 13 cycles ago, in 2016, when this “shock and awe” force fomented the “death of America” as journalist/historian Neal Gabler put it, at the time of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, often referred to as “the groan heard ‘round the world”, as people reacted with horror and disbelief and global stock markets went into a tailspin. As Gabler wrote in his article titled Farewell, America, published two days after that election, “America died [on that day] not with a bang or whimper, but at its own hand via electoral suicide. We the people chose a man who has shredded our values, our morals, our compassion, our tolerance, our decency, our sense of common purpose, our very identity – all things that, however tenuously, made a nation out of a country”. And that was THEN, well before the Covid fiasco, well before the Jan. 6th, 2021 coup attempt or the attempted theft and concealment of hundreds of federal classified documents, well before all the indictments and his conviction on 34 counts of felony in 2024, well before he (GASP) was “reelected”, under a cloud of suspicion about possible Russian interference in the election, and well before the current state of crisis that is now involving disguised and heavily armed federal thugs snatching people (including children) off streets and throwing them into horrific detention camps.

Precisely four cycles after that 2016 election, in September of 2019, Guardian columnist Robert Reich published an article titled Trump is seriously, frighteningly, dangerously nuts – and the world is in danger – an observation that has become vividly and painfully clear both locally and internationally. One cycle after that, five cycles (1300 days) after that election, this 5 Etz’nab’ energy marked the start of “a summer of anarchy”. The US was in complete meltdown with huge protests (and riots and looting in some areas), and a state of crisis from coast to coast. That was in 2020, 8 cycles ago! And now the whole thing has escalated to the point where people are being killed on the streets at the hands of federal agents.

Note that this day is marking one Calendar Round (exact day, and month) return of the energies in place at the time of an attempted assassination of President Nixon in 1974. Currently this is the day when Epstein accomplice Maxwell is due to be deposed by the House Oversight Committee, although it is anticipated that she may again decline to answer questions.

6 Kawak (Feb. 10th) – a “storm everywhere” type of force, coinciding at this time with the opening day for the 2-day Canada-in-Asia Conference (CIAC2026) in Singapore, the premier gathering for Asia-Canada collaboration.

Note that this energy often has more to do with the triggering of a “storm of compassion or emotion” than a weather related event, as has been seen often during the past few cycles. In early June of 2020 this was the energy in place on that “flashpoint” day of outrage when military police used teargas, rubber bullets, and flash grenades to clear a path through peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters so that the dumpster could stage a particularly revulsive photo op in front of St. John’s Lafayette church in Washington DC. That was seen as a major “breaking point” in terms of democracy in the U.S., basically foreshadowing the Jan. 6th insurrection and everything that has followed. That was eight cycles ago.

One cycle after that, in February of 2021, Rep. Bennie Thompson, the chair of the House Homeland Security Committee who became the chair of the Jan. 6th committee, became the first member of Congress to file a lawsuit against him for inciting the deadly insurrection.

Five cycles ago (in 2022) the Jan. 6th committee held its 8th public hearing, which focused specifically on that 187 minutes on Jan. 6th when the dumpster did nothing to stop the mob that was storming the U.S. Capitol, highlighting his culpability and direct involvement in formenting the events of that grotesque and horrifying day. Senator Jamie Raskin, a member of the Jan. 6th committee, referred to this as “a profound moment of reckoning”, as they highlighted the various crimes that revealed both dereliction of duty and “criminal intent”. The various crimes that were identified included attempted obstruction of an official proceeding (the certification of an election), conspiracy to defraud the U.S., seditious conspiracy, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and insurrection. These are the crimes that he and his cohorts kept attempting to brush aside during prosecution efforts that were underway prior to the 2024 election.

This is the Maya birth energy of the legendary folk songwriter-singer and social activist Pete Seeger whose powerful “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” song so poignantly illustrates the futility of war.

Currently this is the day when the Buddhist monks, who have been undertaking a 108-day, 2,300 mile long Walk for Peace from Texas to Washington DC, are scheduled to arrive at their destination, at which time they will visit the Washington National Cathedral.

7 Ajaw (Feb. 11th) – “self generating” full sun, a force traditionally associated with “full sun” and the general idea of kingship (could also translate as “self-generating kingship”)

Seven Ajaw was traditionally a great Aztec feast day devoted to Xochipilli, the “Flower Prince”, the god of flowers, games, music, and dance. With the sun frequently symbolized as a four-petalled flower there is a strong solar aspect to this in conjunction with fertility and maize. Indeed, when this was in place five cycles ago, our planet was hit by a powerful coronal mass ejection. In Maya mythology this energy is associated with a special purification/soul retrieval type of ceremony associated with the resurrection of the Maize God (representing fertility).

It has now been six cycles exactly since the dumpster attempted to block the Jan. 6th committee from obtaining a treasure trove of notes from his top advisers related to his insistence that the election was stolen (an attempt that was denied later during this same trecena), in a hearing that was seen as a pivotal moment in an historic legal fight concerning the authority of a former president, the House’s investigative power, and the reach of executive privilege. This was also the energy in place in November 2021, when the Manhattan DA convened a new grand jury in the Trump Organization probe.

Currently this is the final day for the Sapporo Snow Festival, and the opening day for the Nice Carnival, referred to as the premier international carnival in France, one of the largest in the world. This year’s theme is “Vive la Reine”.

This is also the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which marked the end of a 2,500 year Persian monarchy and the reshaping of global geopolitics. On this day the Buddhist monks’ Walk for Peace group are scheduled to host a meditation retreat in Washington DC.

8 Imix (Feb. 12th) – the “resurrection” of birth, the type of energy that can help to open up new possibilities, at the time of the congressional hearing regarding the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis.

This was the energy in place six cycles ago (in 2021) when House Democrats passed a $1tn bill to help rebuild the ageing infrastructure in the U.S., after months of delay, delivering Joe Biden a long-awaited legislative victory. It has now been five cycles since Earth was struck by a “full-halo CME” at the same time time as temperatures in China began spiking above 40C, with some cities given high alert warnings for possible dam failures.

The last time this was in place (last May), the International Court of Trade ruled unanimously that the orange grifter’s tariffs are illegal and unconstitutional – and that everyone can get a refund for everything that has happened since the whole tariff fiasco began. Since then multiple states had sued against the tariffs, and there has been a significant decline in US trade with other countries. The Supreme Court has yet to rule on the matter, even though the case has been argued before them.

Currently this is the day when the Buddhist monks are due to depart from Washington DC and return to Texas by bus after their 2,300 mile Walk for Peace.

9 Ik’ (Feb. 13th) – the “outward projection” of wind, breath, spirit – significantly, the calendrical daysign of Ehécatl/Quetzalcóatl, the “feathered serpent” deity traditionally seen in Mesoamerican cultures as being symbolic of spirit, breath, culture, the arts, justice, and things of a life-giving nature. This marks five cycles exactly since Pope Francis began his 5 day visit to Canada, in 2022, “on a pilgrimage of healing and reconciliation.”

Nine Ik’ (aka Nine Wind) is a very important energy both mythologically and historically. Symbolic of far-reaching communication, 9 Ik’ is also representative of the winds that can “blow” in multiple directions to bring about change. Tornadoes have often manifested under this influence, as have major protest rallies.

In 1961 this was the energy in place when U.S. astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. was carried into suborbital flight aboard Mercury Freedom 7, becoming the first U.S. astronaut to travel into space (in a 15 min. flight). When this energy was in place in 1996 Shannon Lucid became the first female astronaut to crew a space station.

Back in 1860, this was the energy in place when South Carolina became the first state to declare its secession from the United States, prior to the start of the civil war.

Currently this is the opening day for the three-day Munich Security Conference, during which world leaders will focus on global security challenges, including global governance, democratic resilience, and climate security. That will be a close one to watch!

10 Ak’b’al (Feb. 14th) – a combination of the foundational energy of “Source” (the number 10) in conjunction with “darkness”, as in a Temple associated with deep esoteric mysteries. This was in place five cycles ago (in 2022) when Pope Francis visited Maskwacis, site of the former Ermineskin Residential School, one of the largest residential schools in Canada, where he met with indigenous residential school survivors from across the country and issued an apology for the abuses that they suffered when attending those institutions.

Currently this is World Sound Healing Day and Valentine’s Day, as well as National Have a Heart Day, an annual event organized by the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada. It is also the day for the 34th annual Women’s Memorial March in Vancouver, in memory of missing and murdered indigenous women, a march that also draws attention to the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual issues that many vulnerable women still face today.

In addition this is the opening day of the three-day Fan Expo Pop Culture Convention, focusing on comic book art, superheroes, science fiction, cosplay (costume play), and related memorabilia. This is also the opening day for two more festivals – the Sylvan Lake Ice Dragon Boat Festival, and the 16-day Citrus (or Lemon) Festival in Menton on the Côte d’Azur in France. Two different festivals, with two very different flavours!

11 K’an (Feb. 15th) – an “inspirational” type of energy associated with youthful vitality, coinciding with the Buddhist Parinirvana or Nirvana Day, one of two days that celebrate Buddha’s achievement of Nirvana or full enlightenment (this is the one celebrated by most Buddhists). This is also National Flag Day in Canada (marking the 61st anniversary of the Canadian flag)

In 2020 this was in place when Joe Biden became the Democratic presidential nominee before going on to win the 2020 election.

It has now been nine cycles exactly since the start of the Global Week for Future climate action strike in 2019 when an estimated four million students, encompassing more than 150 countries, participated in a worldwide walkout, at the start of a week of climate change actions. One cycle before that, earlier that year, Nancy Pelosi was sworn in as Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and more than 100 women were sworn in when Democrats took over control of the House.

It had now been precisely three cycles (780 days) since 150,000 people were forced to flee from central Gaza as Israel continued their attacks. Tragically, they were displaced several more times after that, and even now Gaza is still being hit by random Israeli air strikes.

12 Chikchan (Feb. 16th) – “dedicated” lifeforce – a powerful force that represents a doubling of the intensity of the lifeforce-oriented Quetzalcóatl energy – a type of influence that can significantly draw people into action for a common cause, particularly around issues relating to justice.

Currently this is President’s Day in the US, and will likely be “celebrated” in a similar manner to last year, when the theme was Not My President, during a national day of protest against fascism across the U.S. The mid-term elections in the U.S. will take place one cycle from this day, 260 days from now – but even now the orange insurrectionist is laying the groundwork to refute the validity of the results.

This marks seven cycles since the Supreme Court rejected the dumpster’s bid to shield his financial records and tax returns, so that the New York state District Attorney and the NY Grand Jury could have access to them for their investigations into possible financial and corporate misconduct. Precisely three cycles after later the orange felon has to sit for a 7 hr. deposition in New York AG Letitia James’ office, related to her multi million dollar case against him for business fraud, in a case that she ultimately won. Along these same lines, just two cycles ago Mary Trump posted her article titled Cheating as Way of Life, What Donald Keeps Getting Away With, in which she talked about what she believed to be at stake in the 2024 presidential election and the lies allegedly told by her uncle. In the post she described her uncle as a “deeply unwell traitor.”

In 1974 this was the energy in place when a federal grand jury indicted seven of President Nixon’s aides on charges of conspiracy related to Watergate, when Nixon was named as an unindicted co-conspirator, which led to his impeachment process.

Currently this is

• an important public holiday in North Korea called The Day of the Shining Star, an anniversary of the birthday of Kim Jong-il, Korea’s second leader and the father of Kim Jong-un.
• the day commemorated in Canada by the Métis Nation as Louis Riel Day, as it is a Gregorian anniversary of Métis leader Riel’s wrongful execution in 1885. Celebrations of Métis culture now coincide with this date.
• Family Day in several Canadian provinces (B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick)
• the final day of Winterlude, Canada’s popular winter festival
• the beginning of Maslenitsa Week in Ukraine and other Slavic regions. This is an Easter Slavic religious and folk holiday similar to Mardi Gras. Sometimes called Pancake Week. (Feb. 16-22)
• the eve of Chinese New Year, at the start of China’s spring festival holiday season, which often includes large family reunion dinners.

 

13 Kimi (Feb. 17th) – “transformational death” (or “transformational foundations”) – a powerful, and sometimes even “explosive”, “return to Source” type of force that can often pack a huge punch, as seen in the intense weather systems and even volcanoes that have occurred in the past under this influence. Way back in 1521 this was the energy in place at the start of the Battle of Tenochtitlán, the extended battle between the Aztec and Hernán Cortés, with his coalition of Spaniards and thousands of Indigenous allies, that was central to the Spanish conquest of the Aztec empire.

Currently this energy is coinciding with the New Moon, the heliacal rise of Venus as the Evening Star, and an annual “Ring of Fire” Solar Eclipse, which will be seen over southern Argentina, Chile, South Africa, and Antarctica.

This is Chinese New Year, the start of the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar. This is China’s most auspicious holiday – an important day for celebration at the start of China’s Spring Festival, which lasts until March 3rd. Amusingly, Draco Malfoy, one of the Harry Potter wizard world villains, has become a kind of “mascot” for this year’s festival, as his name transliterates as “mǎ ěr fú”, with the first character meaning “horse” and the final character, “fú”, meaning “fortune” or “blessing”. Images of Malfoy seated on a horse, are showing up on all sorts of decorations and themed merchandise this year, as this image is seen as representing “horse fortune”. The giving and receiving of “lucky money” in red envelopes is one of the highlights of this day. In Chinese tradition it is forbidden to sweep or clean at this time, so that good fortune does not get swept away.

This is also Vietnam’s TET (Tet Nguyen Dan), Lunar New Year, the most important festival and public holiday in that country, and also the Year of the Horse in the Vietnamese zodiac, heralding the arrival of spring.

In New Orleans, this is Mardi Gras Day, the last day of the carnival season, also known as Shrove Tuesday (aka “Fat Tuesday”, Pancake Day), a traditional feast day before the start of Lent. It is also the final day of Carnevale Di Venezia (the Venice Carnival). The evening brings the start of Ramadan, the most sacred month in Islamic culture.

It has now been four cycles since civil war broke out in Sudan, and two cycles since the alleged assassination attempt at Mar-a-Lago. Note that when this energy was in place in January of 2019, ten cycles ago, The New York Times ran a scathing article by Pulitzer prize winning columnist David Leonhardt that was titled “The People vs. D. J. Dump”, subtitled “He is demonstrably unfit for office. What are we waiting for?”, which highlighted the pressing need to remove the dumpster from office (that was during his first term). Whole categories of issues were identified as reasons for why he should be removed. At that time the writer thought that waiting it out until 2020 would be way too dangerous. He couldn’t have been more prophetic.
