Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

The Maya date was 4 Ajaw 3 K’ank’in, equivalent to Dec. 21, 2012 – not the “end” of the calendar, but the completion of the 13th Bak’tun, a key date that marked the beginning of a new Great Cycle of Time. As always, the energies encoded in the calendar continue on. As described in Manual for the Soul, A Guide to the Energies of Life, the 260 day cycle that forms the foundation for the Maya Calendar is comprised of 20 trecenas (weeks), each containing 13 days, each of which represents a unique energy with a very special meaning. These energies as they manifest, at work and at play, are the focus of this blog.

Wind, breath, spirit, medicine, communication, and even high magic – these are the forces that will be threading their way through this first full trecena of the new Maya year that began a few days ago. As mentioned at that time this is a year oriented around far- reaching “evolutionary” movement so we can expect many highly consequential events to Read the full article…

We have now entered the Twilight Zone – that surreal place where everything is so unfathomable and bizarre that it forces people to shift gears in often unprecedented ways. As this trecena begins many countries (including Australia and many European countries) have closed their borders to all visitors; many have issued stay-at-home orders and the closing of all but essential Read the full article…

Who could have ever imagined a quarantine of the whole of Italy? Who could have anticipated thousands of people trapped on cruise ships that are not allowed to dock? Who could have fathomed the mandatory shutdown of Chinese factories for an extended period of time, or the recommended “do not travel” directive that is currently impacting transportation industries? Who could Read the full article…

As Rachel Maddow put it a few days ago, “the dark days are here”. She was referencing, of course, the toxic political environment in the U.S. where no one (not even in the justice system, the military, or the intelligence community) is free to do their job without fear of being attacked by the current occupant of the White House. Read the full article…

As anticipated, a number of significant shifts took place during the last trecena. Although opportunities were presented to head towards the light, the shifts that took place were more in the nature of falling off a cliff than finding footholds for climbing out of an abyss. Now, with the US Congress essentially crippled by Trump’s acquittal, and the 2020 election Read the full article…

There is “movement” in the works – can you feel it? As we kick off this new trecena at a key 52-day “shift-point” within the 260 day cycle the sense of some sort of shifting-of-energies seems palpable. We have just come through an intense 13 days that have included a rare impeachment trial in the US, the finalization of Brexit Read the full article…

Fallout from the dramatic shake-up in Russia’s government, an historic and highly contentious presidential impeachment trial in the U.S., backlash on several fronts after a passenger plane was shot down during heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran, severe weather in many regions, and hundreds of millions of people on the move during chunyun, or spring migration, the world’s largest Read the full article…

As we embark on this new year we find that the first full trecena of 2020 is the “Creation” trecena introduced by the playful, inventive, agile, and capricious Monkey deity who sits at the centre of the Tree of Life and weaves together the threads of creation as he orchestrates the proliferation of life. This Chuwen trecena begins with the Read the full article…

Over the last few days Star Wars fans have joyfully embraced the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the final film in the nine-part “Skywalker saga”. As with the other films in this series, this movie is filled with dazzle, with battles, duels, flashing lightsabres, rapid-fire explosions, and hyper-zinging spaceships – the kind of flash and dazzle that Read the full article…

Justice, emergence, liberation, “awakening” – with massive protest demonstrations taking place worldwide and major calls for action with regard to climate change – the world is screaming for these things right now. And those are the “specialties” traditionally associated with the great Feathered Serpent that is representative of this Chikchan trecena. As this is a trecena that has been known Read the full article…
