As this final trecena of the current cycle comes into place it brings to an end another period that has been marked by great instability on many fronts, particularly in the US, and in places such as Gaza, Venezuela, Iran, and Sudan, which has been dealing with civil war for just over 1,000 days.

Over the past 260 days there have been massive changes on many different fronts, particularly in the U.S., as the self-proclaimed dictatorship, marked by chaos, head-spinning incompetencies, mind-boggling avarice and cruelty, and no holds barred corruption, has continued to unfold. As could be seen during the earlier weeks of Trump 2.0, as the orange felon began his attack on a multitude of governmental agencies and American institutions, there has been no real letup in these attacks and people have had to make continuous adjustments in their lives to deal with the implications. Many communities have been living in a state of constant terror, in fear of being abducted by armed, masked ICE agents, with many communities also having to endure the presence of armed national guards in their cities, for no justifiable reason.

But over the past 260 days it has become increasingly apparent that pushback is gaining considerable strength, as more and more people rise up and join the movement to stop the spread of the horrors. Indeed, this pushback movement really began two cycles ago, in August of 2024, during the Harris-Walz campaign, when “We’re not going back!” proclamations were ramping up prior to the 2024 federal election. The timing was interesting as it coincided with the Lamat trecena, which tends to herald change prior to the beginning of a new cycle, often with an emphasis on “leadership”.

Historically, this Lamat trecena was seen by ancient Mesoamerican cultures as ritualistically significant, with the first day, One Rabbit (the Aztec variant of the first day of this period), thought to have been the date in the distant mythic past when the cosmos was created by the gods. Its importance is reflected by the inclusion of a One Rabbit glyph on a number of monuments and markers, such as the back of the Aztec Coronation Stone.

This energy (known as One Lamat, aka “Star”, to the Maya) was also associated with New Fire ceremonies. Aztec priests conducting New Fire ceremonies (every 52 years) would climb the Cerro de la Estrella (Star Mountain) to conduct New Fire ceremonies in conjunction with the rise of the Pleiades. And although such ceremonies are no longer conducted, it is intriguing to see how so many events associated with renewal have just “naturally” coincided with this energy, at the beginning of this final trecena within the 260-day Tzolk’in cycle.

One Lamat, associated with Venus, was seen as the great celestial “signaller”, an energy that often heralds the need for alertness – as things are in the process of change. And, as it happens, this Lamat trecena is currently coming into place just four days after the Venus Superior Conjunction on Jan. 6th, as it begins its shift towards the western evening sky. It is also coming into place immediately following a Mars conjunction with the Sun. With Mars being an ancient Roman god of war, this influence can also be factored into the mix.

From the Mesoamerican perspective, one of the major patrons of this trecena was known to the Aztec as Xipe Tótec, the ancient Lord of Renewal and Liberation. The other was Xiuhtecuhtli, the Lord of Fire and Time – a deity connected with time-related change, as in cycle endings. Both of these entities are oriented around the idea of setting the stage for new beginnings. Sudden and dramatic change is not unusual during this period, particularly with regard to conflicts, and with regard to individuals in leadership positions.

For instance, Pope Francis was inaugurated on One Lamat in 2013, and his funeral took place one cycle ago, the day after One Lamat. Moreover, his One Lamat inauguration in 2013 was 88 days after Dec. 21, 2012, that highly significant “great cycle” completion date in the Maya Calendar Long Count. And Pope Francis was 88 years old at the time of his departure.

In January of 2021, Joe Biden’s inauguration as the 46th President of the U.S. took place on the fifth day of this period, bringing an end to four years of “spiritual decay and moral decrepitude” fomented by his predecessor (as former Harvard professor Cornel West put it). Who could possibly have guessed that the whole thing would flip back again, with a vengence, four years later? Clearly people had not gotten the message in 2017 when this trecena brought forth massive protest demonstrations in dozens of US cities, in a huge call for the dumpster’s impeachment, with marchers’ signs signalling sentiments such as “Illegitimate, Corrupt Puppet”, and “Worst President Ever”.

In the deeper past this is the trecena that was in place in 1918 when Russia’s Czar Nicholas and his family were executed by Bolshevik troops, at the beginning of this time period, after being removed from Imperial power and held in captivity for several months. Thirty-five years later this energy brought forth the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, on the first day of the same trecena that saw the coronation of Queen Elizabeth I in 1559. Seven years after Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation that same One Lamat energy saw John F. Kennedy give his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention (1960) after winning the Democratic nomination for president.

In terms of this trecena as a whole, this is a time period that has precipitated a number of important “world shifting” events in the past, including the discovery of gold in California in 1848; the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, followed by the unconditional surrender of Japan at the end of World War II; the passage of the Civil Rights Act in the U.S. in 1957; the completion of the deconstruction of the Berlin Wall in 1990; the storming of Baghdad by U.S. forces in 2003; and the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

Very significantly this is the trecena that brought that huge “moment of transformation” in Egypt in 2011 when massive citizen protests forced President Mubarak to step down, proving that with enough “people power”, tyrants CAN and WILL be defeated.

Note that in terms of the U.S., Harvard law professor Lawrence Tribe perhaps summed the situation up very succinctly last April, in conversation with Lawrence O’Donnell, when he said “We are at a profound crossroad in the history of the US. It’s up to all of us not to give in to the tyrant.” And it was clear, one cycle ago, that law firms were getting this message, as an association of more than 700 partners at major U.S. law firms submitted a court brief on the first day of this trecena, supporting the law firm Susman Godfrey in its federal lawsuit challenging Trump’s executive orders against them. The filing said that Trump’s punitive orders targeting Susman and other law firms “threaten the legal profession, the judiciary, and the rule of law itself”. Fortunately judges were already issuing rulings to at least temporarily block many of these kinds of orders.

Five cycles ago this trecena not only brought forth the “bombshell” overturning of “Roe vs. Wade” by the US Supreme Court, which traumatized millions, but also brought forth some of the most “eye-opening” testimonies in the Jan. 6th Committee’s public hearings, which vividly provided insight into the inner workings of the insurrection scheme.

This time the stakes are particularly high, with the implications of the US attack on Venezuela needing to be addressed, as well as US threats on other nations; as well as the implications of the complete withdrawal by the US from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and 65 other international organizations, agencies and commissions. And then there is the lawlessness of federal US agencies such as the DoJ and Dept of Homeland Security; a whole range of issues related to economics and social services, and . . . . the issue of the Epstein files.

Internationally, there are the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, with continuing attacks on Palestinians and the revoking of licences to organizations supplying aid; the non-ceasefire and impasse between Russia and Ukraine; and the “revolution” in Iran that is currently unfolding. And globally, former US allies are realizing that the US can no longer be trusted. As Germany’s President Steinmeier put it three days before the start of this trecena, global democracy is now at risk . . . there had been a “breakdown of values by our most important partner, the US, which helped build this world order.” Now, he said, it’s about “preventing the world from turning into a robber’s den, where the most unscrupulous take whatever they want.”

So as we come to the end of this current cycle, much is “up in the air”. The world is in flux, and huge transitions are looming. Powerfully transformative energies are in play at this time that will signal what lies ahead, setting the stage for new directions and new beginnings that will come more fully into force during the following trecena.

This is also a particularly good time to set the stage for personal new beginnings, an excellent time to work with this trecena’s energies to “signal” your intentions as you work to make whatever adjustments might be needed to address shifting new realities. This is a great time to work with those “deities of renewal” who oversee this trecena – the Lord of Renewal and Liberation and the Lord of Fire and Time – who will be helping to set the foundations for the forthcoming changes. Here are the energies that will be in place:

1 Lamat (Jan. 10th) – the “initiation of leadership”, a heralding type of energy that can point towards change or new directions, as was in place one cycle ago on the final day of Pope Francis’s lying in state at the Vatican, as preparations were underway for his funeral the following day. Back in 2013, this energy was in place at the time of his inauguration as Pope Francis I. There were 17 Tzolk’in cycles (17 x 260 days) between his inauguration and eve of his funeral.

In the distant past this was the energy (known to the Mexica as One Rabbit) that often coincided with New Fire ceremonies, associated with renewal. But even in contemporary times many important events associated with regeneration have taken place on One Lamat, as seen in 2018 when US House Democrats voted overwhelmingly to nominate Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Two cycles ago the Harris-Walz campaign was quickly gaining momentum in the US, just after Kamala announced Tim Walz as her running mate, and large rallies were being organized in her bid to become the first female president of the US.

Indeed, this energy has often been an important marker point in terms of leadership in world history. George Washington was selected to become the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army under this influence in 1775, and Queen Elizabeth II’s elaborate coronation took place under this influence in 1953 – echoing the fact that the Aztec version of this energy (known as One Rabbit) was carved into the Aztec Coronation Stone, as noted above.

In 1960 this was in place at the time of John F. Kennedy’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention after winning the Democratic nomination for president. Back in the year 1800 it was a One Lamat day when then-General Napoleon began leading his army across the Alps in his Second Italian campaign.

It has now been 10 cycles since the November day in 2018 when the Miami Herald published a detailed aricle titled “How a future Trump Cabinet member gave a serial sex abuser the deal of a lifetime”. In the article, Julie K. Brown described how an extraordinary plea agreement was made that would conceal the full extent of Epstein’s crimes and the number of people involved. He was facing a 53-page federal indictment that could have sent him to prison for the rest of his life, but the terms of the deal were such that Epstein was to serve just 13 months in the county jail. The deal, overseen by Alex Acosta, Trump’s 1.0 secretary of labor, who was in charge of an agency that provided oversight of US labor laws, including human trafficking, also shut down an ongoing FBI probe into whether there were more victims and other powerful people involved in those crimes. Among other things, Acosta had allowed Epstein’s lawyers unusual freedoms in dictating the terms of the non-prosecution agreement, an agreement that scuttled the federal probe into a possible international sex trafficking operation. And now, 10 cycles after that information was published, and 22 days after Congress ordered the DoJ to release the files, it has been discovered that less than 1% of the files have been released, and over 2 million files are still being retained by that department. With some 81% of Americans wanting the files to be released, to get to the bottom of this complex and sordid situation, there is much speculation as to what is being so fervently hidden. But with more and more information coming out, leading to more and more speculation about what has been an extensive cover-up, this is a potentially explosive situation that will likely continue to rock the political landscape for some time to come. Part of this might include the question of why he was found dead in his jail cell one cycle after that “deal of a lifetime” was made, followed by the dismissal of charges against him.

Five cycles ago (in 2022) this One Imix energy was in place at the time of the dissolution of Israel’s coalition government, when a new election was called, setting the stage for the return to power of former prime minister Netanyahu several months later. Even then this was highly problematic as this move was soon followed by intense protests against him, as could be seen four cycles ago (in March of 2023) with demonstrators often calling him the “Crime Minister”, referring to his indictments for breach of trust, accepting bribery, and fraud, as well as his plans to overhaul Israel’s judiciary. Since then he has been responsible for horrific war crimes and crimes again humanity, relating to Gaza and other atrocities, and the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for him. But just a few days ago, on New Year’s Eve, he was partying at the dumpster’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, while more than a million people in Gaza were suffering in makeshift tents under harsh winter conditions. And just before the start of this trecena he revoked the licenses of 37 international organizations, including Action Against Hunger, and Doctors Without Borders, who were providing food, healthcare, shelter, water, and other basic necessities to the people of Gaza who were relying on those organizations for survival. On this 106th anniversary of the founding of the League of Nations, the first worldwide governmental organization with a mission to maintain world peace, where are the world leaders who can actually hold this monster to account?

Currently this is Sir Rod Stewart’s 81st Gregorian birthday, and the tenth anniversary of the death of “Starman” David Bowie. This is the Maya birth energy of former Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau, who became the first Canadian to venture into space, in 1984, as a payload specialist on the Space Shuttle Challenger. He flew on three Space Shuttle missions, and in 2021 he became Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was not only born on 1 Lamat, but made his departure from this realm on 2 Lamat, this past June.

2 Muluk (Jan. 11th) – the “dynamic shape-shifting” energy of water, marking one cycle since the funeral for Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, prior to his interment in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. Over 60 heads of state, and some 160-170 international delegations were in attendance. Currently this is marking six years since China announced its first Covid-19 death, as scientists in many places were scrambling to develop reliable tests for that disease.

It has now been five cycles since the Jan. 6th Committee held its fourth public hearing, which focused on the dumpster’s alleged efforts to unduly influence state legislators and election officials in 2020. In March of 2018 this was also in place when thousands of students participated in the National School Walkout Day protests across the US, to spur action on gun control. Unfortunately, it made little difference as gun violence in the U.S. continues to blaze on, with tragedies occuring on almost a daily basis.

On a lighter note, this is the day for the 83rd Golden Globes ceremony, highlighting excellence in international film and television.

3 Ok (Jan. 12th) – a Burner Day representative of the “activation of fire” (or heart-fire, represented by a dog), this is an energy that can be “hot” and firey or very heart-centred as it was in 2021 when Biden’s Presidential Inauguration Committee lit up the nearly 200,000 “Field of Flags” that was on display at the National Mall in Washington, representing the people who were unable to travel due to the pandemic and security threats. The “Field of Flags” was lit up with 56 pillars of light that represented the 50 states and U.S. territories; they were lit for 46 seconds, in honour of Joe as the 46th president.

It has now been six cycles since the release, in 2021, of a lengthy report into sexual abuse in the French Catholic Church, that indicated that some 216,000 children have been victims of abuse by members of the Catholic clergy in France since 1950. The report was seen as a turning point in the history of the church, as it was seen that, until the early 2000s, the Catholic Church had shown “a profound and even cruel indifference towards the victims”. Although that church has been focusing on such things as victim compensation, institutional recognition of responsibilities, and prevention efforts since then, the question of the current state of its “terrible abuses” is still under review.

This was anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela’s Maya birth energy, and the Maya birth energy of Argentinian surgeon Rene Favaloro, the doctor who performed the first bypass surgery, changing heart treatment forever.

Something that ties right in with this 3 Ok energy is the story of Aloka, the Peace Dog, a dog with a white heart shaped marking on his forehead, who is leading a group of Buddhist monks on a peace walk across the U.S. Click here for a video that shows Aloka in action, leading the way.

4 Chuwen (Jan. 13th) – a “defining” day associated with creativity (and sometimes mischief); a “time-weaver” type of energy that can be quite eventful, as could be seen in 2024 when hundreds of performers, acrobats, dancers, and circus artists took part in the closing ceremony for the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Four Chuwen tends to be an energy that can “weave events together” in often unusual ways, as seen seven cycles ago on the last day of what was referred to “the worst presidency in history” as factcheckers reported that Trump told an average of some 4,000 lies per month during his first term in office. (Little could anyone have imagined a much, much worse 2.0 comeback, during which he would attempt to break not only the U.S., but the entire world order.) That was the day in 2021 when then-President-elect Joe Biden held a lighting ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, just before he was sworn into office, in memory of the 400,000 people in the U.S. who had died from Covid by that point.

The last time this energy was in place, last April, the Liberals again won Canada’s federal election and Mark Carney became Canada’s new prime minister. Now, one cycle later, Prime Minister Carney will be travelling to the People’s Republic of China to meet with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, as well as other business leaders, to discuss the potential for new economic partnerships, as well as international security. He has had a very busy and very challenging first cycle as Canada’s elected leader, as he has had to deal with shifting alliances and a huge amount of global instability.

5 Eb’ (Jan. 14th) – a “precision” type of energy associated with restorative vitality, as was in place in January, 2021 at the time of the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th US president, and Kamala Harris as the first female Vice-President, with rays of sunlight coming through the clouds to illuminate them. That was the 60th Gregorian anniversary of the day when Pres. John F. Kennedy took his oath of office in 1961 as the 35th president, when President Kennedy gave his famous “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country” speech. No doubt he would be very proud to see so many hundreds of thousands of people protesting every day against the tyranny that has been unleashed on so many U.S. citizens and institutions.

That day in 2021, when Joe Biden became the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, was a Maya Calendar anniversary of the energy that was in place in 1775 when George Washington formally received his commission as Commander-in-Chief of the army during the Revolutionary War (after being selected for this on One Lamat).

In India this is a highly auspicious day, as this is the first day of India’s Makar Sankranti festival, a Hindu astrological “holy phase of transition” event that marks the end of winter solstice period and the return of the sun – and light – and wisdom. One of the main activities during this festival is kite flying by day to send prayers to the Sun God, and the flying of stunning sky lanterns by night, in order to send hopes and aspirations skyward. Hundreds of thousands of Hindu worshippers flock to the Ganges River, and other rivers, at this time to bathe in its holy waters.

6 B’en (Jan. 15th) – representative of “personal authority everywhere”, marking one cycle since the completion of the Orange Felon’s 2.0 first 100 days (seen by many as “100 days of Grift and Destruction” and “100 days of Ineptitude and Corruption”), and marking seven Tzolk’in cycles since President Biden unveiled a comprehensive Covid strategy, the day after he assumed office in 2021. That was a day when it was reported that many of the dumpster’s “followers” had become severely disillusioned – Qanon believers were in disarray, losing faith, and realizing that they had been “duped” and “sold out”. Since then legions more have finally come to the same realization.

This day also marks 11 cycles since Vladimir Putin was re-elected in Russia, for his fourth term, in 2018. Since then many who have attempted to oppose him have either died mysteriously or have been subject to severe persecution – in addition to the thousands of civilians and tens of thousands of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers who have lost their lives due to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine and the on-going war. Unfortunately, there are still no viable solutions in sight, as to how to bring this conflict to an end, but the “Coalition of the Willing”, a coalition of 35 countries who are supporting Ukraine, are in the process of developing a multinational force to help defend Ukraine from Russian provocation after a ceasefire has been reached.

At this point it has been 13 cycles since the monumental climate change deal was finalized in 2016 by nearly 200 countries at the UN’s 24th Climate Change Conference in Katowice, Poland. Unfathomably, however, just 8 days ago, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and from 65 other organizations, agencies and commissions, which cemented the US’s utter isolation from the global effort to combat climate change and makes that country into even more of a pariah when it comes to the stewardship of Planet Earth.

7 Ix (Jan. 16th) – a “self generating transformation” type of energy, often aligned with “magic”, now marking 12 cycles exactly since protesters across the U.S. in dozens of cities held massive rallies calling for the dumpster’s impeachment, in the summer of 2017. As it turned out, they finally got their wish – TWICE, but it took much too long to get there – and was not adequately supported by Republicans. Then again, one cycle ago (on May Day – International Workers’ Day) there were huge protest marches, town hall meetings, and similar actions in some 1,100 cities across the US, to rally against the “billionaire takeover” of the federal government. Hundreds of thousands of people took part in similar demonstrations around the world, as part of a wider backlash against the global surge of hard-right politics. Huge rallies took place in London, Paris, Berlin, and Tokyo, as well as in Italy, the Philippines, Greece, and even Turkey.

Back in 1922 this was the energy in place when the Fascist leader Mussolini demanded that King Victor Emmanuel of Italy hand over to him and his organization complete control of Italy’s government, under the threat that he would mobilize his 800,000 supporters and fight his way to power. The king agreed and allowed him to form a cabinet. Utimately, however, this did NOT end well for Mussolini – something to keep in mind.

This is the start date for International Green Week 2026 in Berlin, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The highlight of this event is the Grüne Wochen traditional trade fair, one of Germany’s best-known events. Founded in 1926 this is seen as the leading international trade fair for food, agriculture and horticulture. It runs until Jan. 25th.

8 Men (Jan. 17th) a “resurrection” type of energy associated with the high vision of the Eagle, now marking seven cycles since early 2020 when UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement where he said that the coronavirus pandemic has been unleashing “a tsunami of hate and xenophobia, scapegoating and scare-mongering”, as he appealed for “an all-out effort to end hate speech globally.” At that time Guterres called on political leaders to show solidarity with all people, and on educational institutions to focus on digital literacy at a time when extremists were seeking to prey on captive and potentially despairing audiences. Unfortunately, wars are still raging and the Trump administration continues spewing forth its hate-filled, xenophobic, and now war-mongering, rhetoric. The “high vision of the Eagle” is still greatly needed as people continue to work towards finding viable solutions to Earth’s many critical problems.

This is a strong “solar oriented” type of energy which expressed itself quite forcefully three cycles ago when the sun ejected a powerful M9.8 solar flare, which followed several others emitted over the previous couple of days, to create a “Cannibal” CME that triggered large geomagnetic storms felt on Earth shortly thereafter.

Currently this is the Catholic Feast Day of St. Anthony the Abbot, often commemorated with “Blessing of Domestic Animals” ceremonies.

9 Kib’ (Jan. 18th) – an expansive, “restoration of order” type of energy, sometimes associated with making “adjustments”, often with long term implications.

Three cycles ago this was in place at the opening of the COP28 UN climate summit, in Dubai, UAE, at which time some 85,000 participants and more than 150 Heads of State and Government from some 196 countries met to assess progress towards meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. This was seen as the first “global stocktake” of the world’s efforts to address climate change, and resulted in a “escape plan” for “a world on fire”, to speed up the transition away from fossil fuels. But with the US having backed away from dozens of key climate related agreements, while advocating for greater use of fossil fuels (and even “stealing oil” to do so), there is now a “dinosaur” in the works that will make that “escape plan” much harder to achieve, as long as there are pariahs, thieves and climate change deniers in the White House.

10 Kab’an (Jan. 19th) – a foundational type of energy associated with the earth and evolutionary movement, as was in place in 1917 at the time of the October Revolution in Russia – when the Communists (Bolsheviks) came to power. This energy was also in place at the second inauguration of President Lincoln, in 1865, at which time he said:

With malice toward none; with charity for all…let us strive on to finish the work we are in…to do all which may achieve and cherish a just, and a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.

In 1973 this was the energy in efffect when the first Watergate hearings took place as major insights into Republican chicanery during the Nixon era began to be revealed. Currently this is Blue Monday, often thought of as “the most depressing day of the year”, calculating in such factors as weather conditions, economic conditions, world conditions, and low motivation levels at this time of the year. But it is also “Chicago Resists!” day, on the anniversary of the 2.0 inauguration, as Chicago demands the abolition of ICE, the halting of wars, the end of genocides, and taxation of the rich. It is also World Religion Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the U.S., and Dolly Parton’s 80th birthday. Happy birthday Dolly!

This marks five cycles since Sweden and Finland were formally invited to join NATO. Finland was officially accepted as NATO’s 31st member in 2023, and Sweden became NATO’s 32nd member the following year. This is also the opening day for the 56th World Economic Annual Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where world leaders and participants from government, business, civil society, and academia will address global issues and set priorities. Bringing together over 2,500 participants from some 130 countries, under the theme of “A Spirit of Dialogue”, this forum runs through to Jan. 23rd.

11 Etz’nab’ (Jan. 20th) – an “inspirational flint” (knife-edge) type of force that can be quite decisive, dazzling and attention-getting, a kind of “wake up and pay attention” type of energy – and this is exactly what it will be on this day, as this is not only Hope Tuesday (the day after Blue Monday), but also the day of massive Free America Walkouts.

In the U.S. this is the 10th annual National Day of Racial Healing, with the focus, for many, being placed on building relationships necessary “to create a more just and
equitable world”. They will have their work cut out for them.

The last time this energy was in place it marked the completion of nine days of mourning after the funeral of Pope Francis, just before the conclave began. Two cycles before that Pope Francis had sent a written message to the COP28 meeting, calling on the U.N. climate summit to strive for an essential breakthrough agreement to stem global warming that would include the elimination of fossil fuels, since climate had “run amok.” The then-86-year-old pope had planned to attend the conference but a lung inflammation forced him to remain in the Vatican. In his message he said:

I am with you because now more than ever, the future of us all depends on the present that we now choose. I am with you because the destruction of the environment is an offense against God . . . May we be attentive to the cry of the Earth, may we hear the plea of the poor, may we be sensitive to the hopes of the young and the dreams of children!
We have a grave responsibility: to ensure that they not be denied their future. The climate, run amok, is crying out to us to halt this illusion of omnipotence. Let us once more recognize our limits, with humility and courage, as the sole path to a life of authentic fulfillment.

That was the day when large geomagnetic storms hit the Northern hemisphere, with auroras reported as far south as Greece and Turkey, caused by a powerful M9.8 solar flare, which followed several others emitted over the previous few days, to create a “Cannibal” CME. Even the skies over Mongolia turned deep, blood red – a very rare occurrence.

Currently this is U.S. astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s 96th birthday. He is the last surviving crew member from the Apollo 11 Lunar mission, and one of the first two people to walk on the Moon. In 2023, on his 93rd birthday, he was honoured as a Living Legend of Aviation and got married for the fourth time. Unfortunately his wife Anca died last October, so they were not able to celebrate their third anniversary.

This marks four cycles exactly since the International Criminal Court issued an indictment and arrest warrant for Putin for war crimes relating to the deportation of Ukrainian children.

In a whole other area, back in 1955, this was the Maya Calendar energy that was in place when a young Elvis Presley gave his first professional performance in his hometown of Tupelo. It was the spark that triggered the birth of rock ‘n’ roll.

12 Kawak (Jan. 21st) – an intense and “dedicated gathering storm/catalyzation” type of energy that can provide a final big PUSH toward enlightenment, marking one cycle since the selection process began in the Vatican to elect a new pope. That was the day when Prime Minster Mark Carney made his first visit to the White House, at which time he told Trump that “Canada will never be for sale”.

This is now marking 11 cycles exactly since the massive “March for Our Lives” demonstrations in Washington D.C. and other major cities in the spring of 2018, when some two million people marched across the U.S. in the “largest student protest in American history” by that time, with millions more estimated to have marched throughout the world in support of gun control legislation. Four cycles ago tens of thousands of Israelis were marching in nationwide protests against the Israeli government’s plan to undermine the judicial system. Unfortunately that did not work, and one cycle ago an Israeli government minister vowed that “Gaza will be entirely destroyed” as a result of an Israeli military victory, and that its Palestinian population will “leave in great numbers to third countries”, raising fears of ethnic cleansing in the occupied territory. And even now Israeli war-mongering is still tormenting Palestinians.

13 Ajaw (Jan. 22nd) – “transformational Full Sun”, a day often filled with high drama and great change – and sometimes even great light (enlightenment), at the conclusion of the Imix to Ajaw cycle, now marking 4780 days since the beginning of the current era in the Maya Calendar (from Dec. 21, 2012).

This marks one cycle since the conclave began as 135 cardinals gathered in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel to begin the secretive election process to choose a new pope, who was chosen the following day. This was also the Maya Calendar energy in place at the time of the jubilant celebration of VJ Day at the end of World War II after the unconditional surrender of Japan in August of 1945.

It has now been 21 cycles exactly since the great “moment of transition” in Egypt in 2011 when hundreds of thousands of people, “electric with anticipation”, waited for President Mubarak to step down. Note that it was the first day of this Lamat trecena in January of 2011 when the Egyptian people began gaining international support for their push towards a new government, and by the end of the trecena they accomplished their mission. Even though Mubarak indicated that he was not quitting on this day, the anticipation turned to rage as people vowed to escalate the demonstrations. He then stepped down the following day. Wouldn’t it be a jubilant “Hail Mary” kind of achievement if Americans could learn from this and accomplish something similar in their own country, in order to throw out the tyrant and regain some sense of freedom, and return to truly working towards the “for the people” kind of ideal that is identified in their own constitution? Wouldn’t that be the perfect way to begin their 250th anniversary year?
