In the world of ancient Mesoamerica, the first day of this energy period was celebrated as an ancient Feast Day of Renewal, oriented around the idea of guidance, justice, and the restoration of life. Thought of as being under the influence of Xipe Tótec, the Lord of Renewal, and Quetzalcóatl, Lord of Life, this is a time when a new sense of direction in conjunction with the energies of renewal come into play. This was symbolized specifically by Xipe Tótec who was generally depicted wearing a flayed skin, symbolic of the “sloughing off” of the old and the bursting forth of the new. One of the key symbols associated with this time frame is a dog holding a torch, bringing light into the darkness and showing the way.

Given the nature of this energy frame it is intriguing to see how the events of the last trecena set the foundations for this “sloughing off” of the old, as a great deal of shifting took place worldwide at that time. Elections in India and the EU resulted in gains for politicians with nationalist agendas, with notable upsets in the UK, France, and Italy. With this “turn to the right” in that region and the upset in Australia’s elections near the beginning of the last trecena, as well as the ousting of Austria’s government within the last couple of days, the stage has been set for some major adjustments to be made across the globe which could have significant implications with regard to the stance that various nations might take with regard to global issues such as immigration and climate change. There will also be some significant rearranging of alliances as coalitions are formed to achieve goals.

The fourth day of this time frame marks the official start of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, providing the reminder that the peak of this season coincided with this same trecena last September, when the slow moving Hurricane Florence slammed into the US East Coast and Super Typhoon Mangkhut (equiv. of Cat. 5), the strongest storm of the year, made landfall in the Philippines before heading towards China. Three cycles before that (the end of July, 2016) some 5000 firefighters were battling the Big Sur (Soberanes) fire near Los Angeles, which had ignited just before this trecena began, and was threatening several thousand people. Such events are representative of the fact that this can be a vigorous, and even “high voltage”, time frame, with that intensity taking a variety of forms.

In terms of politics, one of the most hopeful touchpoints came during this trecena in 1961 at the time of John F. Kennedy’s inauguration as the new US president, when he delivered his famous “Ask not what your country can do …..” address. But just four cycles after that this same trecena precipitated the assassination of President Kennedy, in November of 1963.

Fast forward to the early 1970’s and the darkness surrounding the Nixon era, which culminated in the Watergate scandal. It took two years to work through the mess, but ultimately during the summer of 1974 the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that President Nixon had to turn over the tape recordings of 64 White House conversations. It was the Ok trecena that accompanied the review of those tapes, including the discovery of “The Smoking Gun Tape” that contained evidence of obstruction of justice. Articles of impeachment were then approved by the House Judiciary Committee, which brought forth Nixon’s resignation at the beginning of the trecena that followed.

In 2008, at the end of the Bush era, this trecena initially saw a failure to pass the $700 billion bailout bill that was needed to address the financial meltdown that had occurred during the preceding trecena. However, after a battle in Congress that bill was signed by the end of the time frame.

And then came the summer of 2016 as Hillary Clinton made history during this time period by becoming the first female to be officially nominated as a presidential candidate by a major US political party.

Three cycles ago, in early 2017, this Ok trecena brought a huge alert from British, European and even Australian spy agencies to their counterparts in Washington about contacts between members of Trump’s campaign team and Russian intelligence operatives. Evidence that incriminated Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort began to surface at that time. Fast forward two more cycles to last September and we find Manfort’s admission of guilt in court to a whole raft of charges, in the midst of this trecena, prior to his sentencing. That guilty plea came under the influence of precisely the same energy as was in place at the time of Kennedy’s assassination, 77 Tzolk’in cycles earlier.

What appears to happen quite often is that the Kab’an trecena that preceded this one often sets the foundation for seismic shifts of various kinds, getting energy moving in particular directions, with “aftershocks” reverberating through this Ok trecena as specific implications begin to be revealed, often along the lines of something new bursting forth.

In 1896 this could be seen in the opening of the first international Olympics of the modern era, in Athens. In 1976 this trecena saw the roll-out of the space shuttle Enterprise, the first test shuttle of the space shuttle series, which significantly opened the door to new explorations in space.

Currently there are many “hot and intense” events scheduled for this time frame, including the huge four-day “Women Deliver” conference in Vancouver, the Extreme Energy Extraction Summit, Trump’s highly controversial visit to the UK, and a variety of 75th anniversary ceremonies related to D-Day and the Normandy landings. As it happens these are taking place during the same trecena as was in place in 1940 at the time of the massive Dunkirk rescue mission, when 800 boats of all shapes and sizes carried out the extraordinary rescue of nearly 340,000 allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk, France when they were trapped by the German army. It was a seemingly impossible situation that was turned around by the unselfish involvement of ordinary citizens who leapt into the breach to save the lives of all those men who were cornered in a hellish situation.

And, more and more, this seems to be a metaphor for what is needed at this present time – for ordinary citizens to roll up their sleeves and become more involved in addressing the issues that are front and centre on this planet at this time. This might take the form of engaging more fully in the call for justice and sanity wherever it is needed, including at the highest levels. It might take the form of doing everything possible to clean up the environment or to protect the natural world and its diverse species.

Indeed, this is a prime time to work with Xipe Tótec, the ancient Mesoamerican Lord of Renewal, and Quetzalcóatl, Lord of Life, Knowledge, and Culture who are the patrons of this time frame.

These are the kinds of energies that can be called upon to push through the darkness towards new possibilities. With the energy of the first day of this time frame being specifically aligned with Love, Loyalty, Warmth, and Guidance, the very first day would be an ideal time to set the intent and direction for whatever needs to be renewed. Here are the energies that will come into play:

1 Ok (May 29th) – the “initiation of [love, warmth,] guidance” – an energy that can be seen as having an ability to shine light on things previously unseen; an ancient Maya Feast Day of Renewal, correlating at this time with the the 100th anniversary of the 1919 solar eclipse that provided proof of Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity and began his rise to fame.

This is the first of two days of Manhattanhenge in New York, with a half sun at 8:13 pm. One cycle since the release of Bob Woodward’s “Fear: Trump in the White House”.

2 Chuwen (May 30th) – a dynamic type of energy traditionally aligned with creativity, and often
involving some kind of “intense heat”, correlating at this time with the second Manhattanhenge day in New York, with the full sun at 8:12 pm. This is Ascension Day in the Christian liturgical calendar, in observance of the “ascension of Jesus” 40 days after his resurrection.

With this being a solar force within a fire-oriented time frame, this energy can often trigger intense engagement and action, as happened in 1973 when the US War Powers Resolution was passed under this influence to check the president’s power to commit the US to an armed conflict without the consent of Congress. Even though this resolution was invoked recently by Congress to end US support for the Saudi-led military action in Yemen, which has resulted in a devastating crisis with 24 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, Trump vetoed this, and the situation is still unresolved. With pressure building for Congress to deal with this, possibly through the courts, this energy may again exert some influence in this regard.

Currently this energy accompanies the opening of the 9th Extreme Energy Extraction Summit, a five-day gathering of leaders representing groups across the US who are resisting all forms of energy extraction. One of the hosts for this gathering is the Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples.

3 Eb’ (May 31st) – the activation of “animated vitality”, a pathfinding/stream-of-consciousness type of force, on the day of the Water Ceremony for the Extreme Energy Extraction Summit. This is the opening day for “Contact in the Desert”, the 7th annual UFO and “ancient alien studies” conference, and the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great transcendentalist poet and essayist Walt Whitman (his Maya birthday will begin the next trecena).

4 B’en (June 1st) – a “defining” energy associated with personal authority, on the official start of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, precisely one cycle since Hurricane Florence hit the Carolinas and other parts of the US East Coast, and millions from the Philippines to southern China were under evacuation orders as Supertyphoon Mangkhut (Cat. 5) was about to unleash its fury.

Often this 4 B’en energy has been a highly consequential force in world history, as it was at the time of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. In 2016 this was in place when Hillary Clinton made history by becoming the first female to be officially nominated as a presidential candidate. Currently this is the start of National Indigenous History Month in Canada, the start of Pride Month in Toronto, Children’s Day in China, and the day when China’s tariffs kick in, as duties on about 5000 US products, valued at about $60 billion, rise as high as 25%.

5 Ix (June 2nd) – a “blessing” or “precision” type of energy associated with mystery and transformation, coinciding at this time with the 66th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. One hundred years ago the opening of the Paris Peace Conference for negotiation of treaty settlements after World War I began under this influence. Twenty years later this was in place when Canada declared war on Germany, and again one cycle later at the start of the Dunkirk evacuations. Last year this energy coincided with the launch date of NASA’s ICESat-2 (Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation satellite) that is now providing precise measurements of the changing heights of Earth’s glaciers, ice sheets, and sea ice.

6 Men (June 3rd) – a “stabilizing” type of energy associated with the high vision of the eagle, coinciding at this time with the opening of the 4-day “Women Deliver” conference in Vancouver, described as “the world’s largest conference on gender equality and the health, rights, and wellbeing of girls and women”, with this year’s theme being “Power. Progress. Change.” The conference is expected to draw some 7,000-8,000 delegates from over 165 countries, in addition to 100,000 virtual and satellite event participants.

Four cycles ago, in that fateful summer of 2016, this was the energy in place when Hillary Clinton delivered her acceptance speech as the Democratic nominee for President at the DNC, with every expectation that she would actually be elected president.

This is also the day when Trump’s visit to the UK is scheduled to begin, which will include a meeting with Theresa May just before she steps down as Conservative leader. Hundreds of thousands (some say more than a million) are expected to mobilize for huge demonstrations to protest against this visit, with many MPs having vehemently called for May’s government to rescind the invitation.

7 Kib’ (June 4th) – a self-generating type of energy, often associated with engendering the kind of thought that can lead towards the restoration of order, coinciding at this time with  World Environment Day, with China hosting events related to the theme of Air Pollution.

This day marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This is also the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in China, when several hundred civilians were killed by the military during a democratic protest (that event took place under the influence of Kawak – “Storm”).

And speaking of storms, this is the publishing date for Michael Wolff’s new book, called Seige: Trump Under Fire, a sequel to the blockbuster Fire and Fury published last year. In it he cites Steve Bannon’s prediction that investigations into Trump’s personal finances will lead to his political downfall.

The evening coincides with the beginning of Eid al-Fitr (the festival of breaking the fast), marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

8 Kab’an (June 5th) – a “resurrection” type of energy associated with “evolutionary” movement. At this time, at Ranville in Normandy, the first French village to be liberated on D-Day, more than 30 veterans and 1500 guests will participate in a 75th anniversary ceremony at the Pegasus Memorial Museum. Overall it is expected that more than 2 million “remembrance tourists” will visit Normandy at this time. Hundreds of veterans, most in their late nineties through to over 100, are also expected to attend.

On this day the skies will again be filled with hundreds of parachutists taking part in the Daks Over Normandy re-creation of the historic air drops from over 800 Douglas C-47 Skytrains (Dakotas).

In 1961 this was the energy in place at the time of the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. One cycle since the beginning of a three day summit between the leaders of North and South Korea.

9 Etz’nab’ (June 6th) – representative of “outwardly-projecting” flint, a “spark-oriented” (and even knife-edged) type of energy that can be quite dramatic and consequential, coinciding at this time with the 75th anniversary of D-Day, when allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in the largest land, sea, and air operation ever undertaken. Thousands are expected to gather among the 4,648 headstones for a ceremony at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetary in Bayeux, France, while thousands more will gather among the 9,387 marble crosses and 149 Stars of David at the Normandy American cemetary in Coleville-sur-Mer.

Two cycles since the launch of the Time’s Up Movement to fight systemic sexual harassment in Hollywood and beyond. Final day of the “Women Deliver” conference in Vancouver.

10 Kawak (June 7th) – “foundational storm” – an energy associated with intense catalyzation as can be seen and felt in major energy pushes or strong weather systems, on this second anniversary of the day when Puerto Rico was struck full force by “the storm of the century” as Hurricane Maria delivered a devastating blow that killed over 3000 people, shattered homes and infrastructure, and completely destroyed the power grid.

First day of the second edition of the 2-day Normandy World Peace Forum, which will take place in Caen, attended by five Nobel Peace Prize winners. As was the case during the first edition of this conference, in 2018, this conference will provide a platform for reflection and exchange, with an emphasis on interregional cooperation and the creation of initiatives that can promote the values of peace and freedom.

Three cycles since the publication of Alan Lichtman’s “The Case for Impeachment” which illustrates the multiple layers of issues which can provide a foundation for Trump’s impeachment. Since then many more layers can be added to that.

Currently this is the day when Theresa May will step aside as Britain’s Conservative leader, drawing her 3 year premiership to a close. This is also the day of China’s traditional Dragon Boat Festival (aka the Duanwu Festival or Double Fifth).

11 Ajaw (June 8th) – an “inspirational sun” or “inspirational enlightenment” Burner Day, coinciding at this time with the second day of the 2-day Normandy World Peace Forum. This is also World Oceans Day, with the 2019 and 2020 theme being: Together we can protect and restore our ocean.

On this day the Trooping the Colours ceremony will be held in London when over 1400 officers and men of Queen Elizabeth’s personal guards go on parade with some 200 horses, at the time of the official celebration of the Sovereign’s birthday.

This ia also the 16th annual World Naked Bike Ride day, and one cycle since the US release of Michael Moore’s blistering new Fahrenheit 11/9 movie, which he referred to as a call to arms, a “siren call” to a “despairing, dispirited public who must – MUST – do its job and end the madness at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue”.

In 2011 this was the energy in place when the price of gold rose to an unprecedented $1743/oz. on the same day as the sun emitted an Earth-directed X6.9 solar flare.

As this is Albert Einstein’s Maya birth energy, now 140 years since his birth in 1879, it is interesting to see that the 100th anniverary of the confirmation of his theory of general relativity coincided with One Ok at the beginning of this current trecena.

12 Imix (June 9th) – a “gathering together” type of force oriented around new beginnings (often “cosmic”)

13 Ik’ (June 10th) – transformational wind, breath, and spirit, this time coinciding with Prince Philip’s 98th birthday. This is the Maya calendar energy that was in place during the final day (June 4th, 1940) of the enormous Dunkirk rescue operation during World War II. Opening day for the Norman Rockwell exhibition at the Caen Memorial in France, titled “Enduring Ideals: Rockwell, Roosevelt and the Four Freedoms”, as part of the 75th commemoration of the Normandy Landing.
