You remember how this year began – with the world pining for relief from the debilitating torment of the “former guy” in the White House, eagerly awaiting Joe Biden’s inauguration as the new president of the U.S., and anxious to see how he was going to grab hold of the reins to help subdue and eradicate the pandemic, which was already on a severe rampage. Millions were also on tenderhooks waiting to see how the transition was going to take place. But the inauguration was still over two weeks away and the situation in Washington was volatile.
Click here for the Podcast to accompany this trecena.
Three days into the new year this Eagle trecena came into place and battle axes were coming out. So how did the energies of this trecena factor into all that, and what might we expect this time through?
First, keep in mind that we are close to the end of the current 260-day cycle and as the Men (Eagle) trecena comes in it can foment a kind of “last stand” way of interacting. Often this manifests a kind of “call to action” type of period that tends to be oriented around the idea of “taking a stance” or standing up for particular convictions. It is a zone that has been oriented, traditionally, around power, high vision, military strength, and transformative action, as symbolized by the eagle.
Often there is a call for both high vision and courage, and people can find themselves in positions where they have no choice but to “become warriors” for a cause. The idea of “battling”, “pushing for supremacy”, and even “sabre-rattling” often goes hand-in-and with this time frame – exactly as we saw early last January when the violent insurrection unfolded at the U.S. Capitol.
At that time the first day of this trecena coincided with the first Gregorian anniversary of the assassination, by a US drone strike ordered by the aggressor-in-chief, of General Qasem Soleimani, the top Iranian commander, arguably the most important military commander in the Middle East and the second most powerful figure in Iran, behind Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. That strike had seriously escalated the long-simmering confrontation between the US and Iran and created the dumpster administration’s biggest foreign policy crisis, so the threats of retaliation for this loomed large. Tied in with this was the fact that history had shown that declarations of war were often aligned with this trecena, as when the U.S. declared war on Iraq on One Men in 2003 and immediately began their invasion of that country. Precisely sixteen cycles after that, during the summer of 2014, the US launched airstrikes against ISIS groups in that country.
But as these energies returned at the beginning of this year the battle for supremacy often took the form of outrageous political “power plays” as could be seen on the first day of this period in early January when the Washington Post published a transcript that revealed how the day before the deceptor-in-chief had “berated, begged, and threatened” Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to overturn the results of the election in that state. Investigative journalist Carl Bernstein called this “the ultimate smoking gun tape”, far worse than Watergate, since it revealed that the deceptor-in-chief was willingly trying “to undermine the electoral system and illegally, improperly and immorally try to instigate a coup.” Fortunately Raffensperger held his ground and emphasized that those statements about voter fraud were simply “not true”.
Two days later Democrats won the Georgia election runoff, which meant that two critically needed Democratic Senate seats were won, giving the Democrats control of the U.S. Senate – so this was a significant shift point in power. That was the day when hundreds of dumpster supporters began rallying in Washington, before they turned into insurrectionists the day after, by violently attacking the Capitol itself and threatening lawmakers while they were in the process of confirming Electoral College votes. As Senator Chuck Schumer commented after the attack, that was an assault by domestic terrorists, an attack by violent extremists who were incited to act by lies. The following day headlines around the world ran headlines such as in The Guardian that read “ ‘Trump blows up US democracy’: the world watches in horror”.
So here we are back with these same energies, after the legacy of all that has been dragged through another full 260-day cycle. Hundreds of people have been jailed, and a small group of the same kinds of people even returned to Washington two days before this current trecena began, for another rally, but were rebuffed by armed guards. Unfathomably, the central issue (ie. The BIG LIE) has continued on, wreaking havoc in a multitude of ways throughout this cycle, and has turned much of the GOP into something strongly resembling a fascist movement in support of that lie. And so the battle continues in that regard, and more skirmishes will take place in Congress during this trecena as Democrats attempt to pass major legislation.
In Canada the first day of this Eagle trecena brings the federal election, after a mercifully short few weeks of campaigning (unlike in the U.S.). Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the election to try to gain greater support for his efforts to lead the country out of the pandemic. This is the trecena that will decide whether or not that was a wise gamble.
And then we have the on-going war against the coronavirus. The numbers are staggering. Two cycles ago (in April of 2020) the global number of cases of COVID-19 was just over 2.25 million and now that has ballooned to nearly 230 million. As this trecena begins currently the U.S. registry has tallied close to 43 million cases – a far cry from the 710,000 cases registered at the start of this period in April of 2020. Now it is looking like the U.S. could reach that number of deaths before the trecena ends.
Unthinkably, the issue is not lack of vaccines, which are now readily available, but rather antivaxxers who are not only not getting vaccinated, but have been carelessly disregarding safety regulations and have even been protesting measures put in place to stop the spread of the virus. Particularly in the U.S., hospital systems in many states have exceeded their capacity to provide care and assistance, and people are dying because they cannot get the attention they need. Some are actually harassing hospitals and health care workers!
It’s not difficult to draw a direct line between such actions and ways of thinking and the bonkers ideas that were being put forward by the destroyer-in-chief in 2020 as he championed such things as the injection of disinfectant as a cure. While all that was happening many abandoned all hope of getting federal help and started becoming their own warriors, bravely finding ways to move forward.
Some countries, such as New Zealand, became very creative – and held the virus at bay for months on end, to the point where they were actually able to return to “normal”. Recently, however, some cases have crept in even there, and new preventative measures are being taken.
Now, as we work through this Eagle-oriented energy zone for the second time this year, we are in a new phase of the war. President Biden and his team in the U.S. continue to work tirelessly to bring an end to this pandemic. Health care workers and responsible leaders worldwide are doing everything they can think of to cope with the situation and encourage their citizens to cooperate. But not everyone is on board and SO MANY MORE need to assume responsibility for doing their part to help rather than hinder in this regard. We will see many more “power plays” in action at this time as reason and prudence battle against ignorance and madness. As before, this means that everyone, everywhere must continue to don their armour and be en garde at all times.
As always during this time frame it is the Aztec goddess Xochiquetzal (Flower Feather) who serves as a key patron of this period. She is aligned with artistry, creativity, household arts, fertility, and female sexual power. She was also a protector of young mothers and a patroness of childbirth. This may sound unusual, given the “eagle warrior” theme of this trecena, but this deity represents a connection to the idea of “women as warriors”, particularly those who died in childbirth who were esteemed for their bravery.
In addition it was thought that a fearsome deity called Tezcatlipoca, who was highly aligned with fire, strength, “supremacy”, and transformation, was a second overseer of this time frame, so these deities would work together to provide a double layer of influence. Bravery, strength, creativity, and transformation are all aligned with these ideas.
As always, these patrons seem to emphasize the enormous need to continue to be as resourceful and creative as possible. One good example of this can be seen in the In America: Remember installation of over 660,000 white flags planted over 22 acres on the National Mall along 3.8 miles of walking paths in Washington DC, to reflect the continuously increasing death toll from covid in the US. This is the vision and creation of social action artist Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg, who installed an earlier version of this last fall in her In America: How Could this happen . . . installation of over 267,000 white flags, representing the death toll at that time. The current installation runs thoughout this trecena.
Those, like Suzanne, who have risen to the challenge of doing whatever must be done in the context of these battles, whether that relates to the challenge of staying healthy, the challenge of caring for those who are ill or in need, the battle to help our planet to refresh and restore itself, or the battle to defeat the dark forces, will be called upon to continue with those efforts. Like the eagle, we must carry on with our efforts to “rise high” and push towards the sun and the light – towards the ultimate goal of clearing and healing. Send as much light and love as possible to those on the front lines. During this critical period these are the energies that come into play:
1 Men (Eagle) (Sept. 20th) – the “initiation” of the high-flying (Eagle oriented) solar energy, at the time of the Full Harvest Moon. This is Respect for the Aged day in Japan, where centenarians now number over 86,5010. Japan’s oldest person, listed as the oldest living person in the world, is 118-year old Kane Tanaka, who has shared that eating good food and keeping her mind active are her secrets for longevity.
This Eagle-oriented energy is a kind of “pushing for supremacy” type of force that has manifested in the past in the form of declarations of war, major battles, anti-government demonstrations, and significant calls for reform, and even aggressive actions that have served to advance select interests.
Currently this is Federal Election day in Canada, and the day of the all-virtual 9th Annual International Conference on Sustainable Development. The Judeo/Christian Feast of the Tabernacles begins in the evening.
As of this day it has been eight cycles since the unexpected death of rock icon David Bowie. This is also the Maya birth energy of rock ’n’ roll legend Stevie Nicks, who was named by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. She is the only woman to have been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
2 Kib’ (Sept. 21st) – a “dynamic” type of energy that can “shake things up” but ultimately tends towards being a transmutation force that can lead towards the restoration of order, coinciding at this time with the release of the Woodward/ Costa book titled Peril, that closely examines the tumultuous time at the end of the “former guy’s” presidency, spanning the November 2020 election, the January 6 insurrection, and President Biden’s inauguration. According to CNN, the book reveals how the transition period was “far more than just a domestic political crisis” and “one of the most dangerous periods in American history.”
This is the start of Climate Week NYC 2021 – a virtual international event, and is also the UN’s International Day of Peace, with this year’s theme being “Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World”. This is the day when President Biden will address the UN General Assembly in New York, at which time he will urge world leaders to commit collectively to vaccinating 70% of the world’s population against C-19 within a year.
In addition this is World Alzheimer’s Day, associated with raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and Dementia. It is also the day of the Chinese Moon Festival (aka the Mooncake Festival or the Mid-Autumn Festival), one of the largest festivals in mainland China and East Asia.
3 Kab’an (Sept. 22nd) – the “activation” of “movement” or “earth movement”, coinciding at this time with the Fall Equinox, and Elephant Appreciation Day
One cycle since the hotly contested Georgia run-off elections that gave the Democrats control of the US Senate as it created an exact 50-50 split in the Senate, with Vice President Kamala Harris having the tie-breaking vote.
4 Etz’nab’ (Sept. 23rd) – a “defining” type of energy aligned with Etz’nab’s flint-oriented, “knife-edged”, “shock and awe” dazzle – an energy that can bring sudden change, as it did last January.
It has now been one cycle exactly since the shocking Jan. 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by a frenzied mob trying to deny the election results, at the time when the Joint Session of Congress was attempting to ascertain and count the Electoral College Votes to formally declare the results of the 2020 election. Even though the rampage delayed the count by several hours, the results were declared early the following morning.
Currently this is UN’s International Day of Sign Languages, Puerto Rico’s Independence Day, and Remember Me Thursday, a day that is the focal point for a global campaign to increase awareness of pet adoption organizations around the world, a campaign to help orphaned pets to find forever homes. There is no doubt there continues to be a great need for assistance in this area.
5 Kawak (Sept. 24th) – the “blessing” of “stormy” compassion; a precision kind of energy that can stir emotions and trigger important events, coinciding at this time with Native American Day in California and Nevada, and the virtual One Planet Peace Forum follow-up to the International Day of Peace on Sept. 21st. According to the OPPF site, this forum was created as an annual event “to offer a universal platform for people of all spiritual and secular expressions to co-create solutions to humanity’s most challenging issues.” This forum takes place over 3 days.
On this day, one cycle exactly since he was confirmed as the president-elect, President Biden will host a summit involving Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia; Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India; and Yoshihide Suga, Prime Minister of Japan, at the White House, with the intent of bringing forth “decisive” commitments on vaccine diplomacy and infrastructure. At an online meeting of the Quad leaders in March, they pledged to work closely on COVID-19 vaccines and climate and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific in the face of challenges from Beijing. It seems that they also have an issue to deal with regard to Australia’s scrapping of a French submarine deal, which is something that will be have to worked out with France’s President Macron.
At this time a “storm warning” might be on order since this is the day when results of the sham audit in Arizona, generally referred to as the “fraudit”, are due to be released. Whatever the results turn out to be, this release is sure to kick up a storm since everything about that fraudit has been suspect.
6 Ajaw (Sept. 25th) – an “everywhere” type of energy associated with full sun and the power of enlightenment, on “Playing for Change” day, International Rabbit Day, and the 4th Annual Canadian Walk for Veterans event, to provide support for veterans who suffer from PTSD. As of this day it has been two Calendar Rounds (2 x 52 years) since the first Americans entered combat in France during World War I. As of this day it will be two cycles (2 x 260 days) exactly since former US Vice-President Pence said (in April 2020) that the pandemic would be over by the next month (May 2020).
This is the Maya birth energy of Bernard Lyot, the French astronomer who invented the coronagraph to study the sun’s corona and its prominences without having to wait for a solar eclipse.
7 Imix (Sept. 26th) – “self-generating” birth, an energy often asssociated with the envisioning of a “new order of being”, on the UN’s International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons
In the UK this is National Police Memorial Day, and the day when The Rolling Stones are back in concert, in St. Louis, Missouri, but without legendary drummer Charlie Watts, whose passage was late last month.
This is also World Rivers day, a celebration of the world’s waterways, with emphasis on the importance of keeping them clean, particularly since it has been found that some of the world’s best-known rivers (including the Thames and the Danube) are contaminated with dangerously high levels of antibiotics. Further information can be found here: World Rivers Day
This was the energy in place when Hernán Cortés and his Spanish conquistadores arrived at Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) in 1519, marking the beginning of a “titanic” struggle for power that involved the Spanish siege of Tenochtitlan and its ultimate defeat two years later.
8 Ik’ (Sept. 27th) – the “resurrection” of wind/breath/spirit; symbolic of the Corn God working together with the wind/breath/spirit aspect of Quetzalcóatl, at the start of Truth and Reconciliation Week in Canada. This day also marks 12 cycles since the March 2013 election of Pope Francis.
In the US, this is the day when the House of Representatives was to vote on the Senate-passed $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, but this may be delayed pending passage of a linked $3.5 trillion bill.
9 Ak’b’al (Sept. 28th) – an “outwardly-projecting” type of force often aligned with the “temple” or “house”, deep esoteric mysteries, and even “darkness”, coinciding with the UN’s International Day for Universal Access to Information and World News Day, which aims “to raise public awareness of the critical role that newsrooms and journalists play in helping people make sense of — and improve — the rapidly changing world around them”. World News Day is about supporting journalists and their audiences who work together, using facts and understanding, to make the world a better place – a big task, considering the “darkness” that has been trying so hard to distort truth and promulgate misinformation.
In the Gregorian calendar this is seen as Confucius’s birthday, sometimes called “Teacher’s Day” as Confucius is known as China’s “First Teacher”
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. Confucius
10 K’an (Sept. 29th) – “foundational germination” – a force that can be quite volatile, as in the generation of strong weather conditions or in the eruption of strong emotion-propelled action that could “germinate” into new directions (as was in place at the beginning of the Egyptian and Syrian Revolutions in 2011).
Currently this is World Heart Day and Michelmas, the feast of the Archangels, aka the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. In 1813 this was the energy in place when James Madison (“The Father of the Constitution” and the main force behind the ratification of the US Bill of Rights) was inaugurated for his second term as U.S. President.
11 Chikchan (Sept. 30th) – the energy of Inspirational Lifeforce, aligned with Liberation and Higher
Consciousness; a Burner Day traditionally associated with “extinguishing the fire” – often
signalling some kind of change in direction (particularly of an energy sequence), coinciding at this time with Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, aka Orange Shirt Day, which was designated as a national statutory holiday last June.
The creation of this important day, in commemoration of the roughly 150,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children in Canada who were forced to attend and suffer terrible abuses imposed by church-run residential schools over a period of more than 120 years, and the more than 4,000 children who are believed to have died in those schools, was one of the Calls to Action put forward by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
This is also (1) World Maritime Day, with the theme being: “Seafarers: at the Core of Shipping’s Future”, as a focus for drawing attention to the invaluable role played by seafarers in the midst of this pandemic, (2) the UN’s International Translation Day, celebrated on the feast day of St. Jerome, the Patron Saint of Librarians, and the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators, and (3) International Podcast Day – a good day to spread the word about Navigating the Energies of Life, my podcast that expands on this blog.
In Los Angeles this is the opening day for the new Motion Picture Museum, dedicated to the art and science of movie-making. It is also the deadline day for US lawmakers to pass appropriations bills to prevent a government shutdown.
12 Kimi (Oct. 1st) – a “gathering together” type of energy associated with “absolute foundations”; a “regrouping type of energy” that could help to lay the foundations for new ideas or ventures, coinciding at this time with the 72nd Gregorian anniversary of the proclamation of the founding of The People’s Republic of China. This marks the start of China’s National Day holiday at the beginning of a “golden week”, a national seven day holiday that can often foment massive traffic jams due to the humungous movement of people.
This is the UN’s International Day for Older Persons, as well as former US president Jimmy Carter’s 97th Gregorian birthday. Happy Birthday Jimmy!
This marks exactly seven cycles since this energy brought one of the “most insane and consequential news days in the history of the US”, just before the 2016 election. It was the day when the dumpster’s campaign almost imploded but was somehow “revived” when the hacked Clinton campaign e-mails were suddenly released by Wikileaks, setting the stage for the forthcoming “election from hell”.
Amazingly this was also the energy in place when John F. Kennedy was nominated by the Democratic Party as their candidate in 1960 and it was also in place at the time of the death of Ted Kennedy in 2009. In addition, this is US Vice-President Kamala Harris’s Maya birth energy.
13 Manik’ (Oct. 2nd) – “transformational deer” (which could translate as “transformational harmonization”), coinciding at this time with the day which the Catholic church commemorates as the Feast of the Guardian Angels or the Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels. This is also the UN’s International Day of Non-Violence, always observed on Mahatma Gandhi’s Gregorian birthday. He was born on this day in 1869.
This is the day when several prominent women will be inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame, including former First Lady Michelle Obama, activist and educator Emily Howland, NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, science fiction novelist Octavia E. Butler, artist Judy Chicago, and musician/author/U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, a member of the Muscogee Nation.
This day marks one Calendar Round (52 years less 13 days) since the day in 1969 when some two million demonstrators (many wearing black armbands) took part in “Moratorium Peace” rallies across the U.S. to protest against the Vietnam war, the largest march in U.S. history up to that time. The Gregorian anniversary of this event is on Oct. 15th.
In October of 2016 when this energy was in place a rapidly growing number of Republicans were calling for Trump to step down (just prior to the election) and were withdrawing their endorsement of him (or as some noted, were stampeding away from him, with some calling for “an engagement of the rules for emergency replacement”). Unfortunately that did not stick, and the poison that began spewing out into the world at that time has now infected millions of people to the point where legions of them can no longer differentiate truth from fiction, decency from vileness, not even to save their own lives.
Metaphorically this was not unlike what happened in 1883 when the Krakatoa volcano exploded under this influence with such a force that it blew the island apart, creating a 130 ft. tsunami and a humungus dust cloud that plunged Jakarta, 100 miles away, into complete darkness. Overall, this is a good day to exercise caution as this can be a highly intense energy.
