Expect torrential rain, get ready for thunderstorms and strong winds, watch out for flooding and potential lightning strikes – these are the kinds of warnings coming from California as this trecena opens. But even though California has had an unusually soggy winter, these kinds of conditions are perfectly in synch with the nature of this current period.

Traditionally this was seen as a time frame that was under the auspices of Tláloc, the Aztec god of rain (known as Chac to the Maya). Indeed, Chac often announces his presence at the start of this period in dramatic, sometimes highly tempestuous ways, as happened two cycles ago, in September of 2022, when Hurricane Fiona brought devastation to the Dominican Republic, as Typhoon Nanmadol pounded Japan with high winds and torrential rains, Hurricane Fiona lashed Puerto Rico, and a 7.5 earthquake shook western Mexico. The last time this was in place (last June) the powerful and erratic Cyclone Biparjoy, that traversed almost this entire time frame, brought widespread destruction to Pakistan and many parts of India. Back in 2014 this Kawak trecena brought forth “the worst snowstorm in recorded history” in the New York region, dumping nearly 8 feet of snow in the Buffalo area. And then, of course, there was Hurricane Katrina and the inundation of New Orleans in 2005 during the last three days of this time frame. As noted below, 11 Muluk, an intense water-related force that comes in near the end of this trecena, is particularly prone to “major water-related” events.

But as much as this can manifest in very literal ways, as seen in events associated with clouds, lightning, thunder, and heavy rainfall, events during this Kawak trecena can manifest in a variety of ways, often precipitating compassion or strong emotion, as seen in September of 2022 at the time of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on the first day of this period, exactly two cycles after Prince Phillip’s funeral that took place during the height of the pandemic. Is it “mere coincidence” that Diana, Princess of Wales, was born under the same energy influence, in 1961?

Looking back, we see that the catalyzation process triggered by these intense energies can take many forms. In 1944, for example, this trecena brought forth the greatest amphibious invasion in history, on a day now referred to as D-Day, as allied forces landed in Normandy on the life-oriented mid-point of this trecena, marking the beginning of European liberation.

In 2017 President Obama delivered his poignant farewell address as president on the third day of this period, as the world waited in fear of the dark “Maga” storms that were looming on the horizon.

In the summer of 1963 this trecena had triggered the first national integrated civil rights march in U.S. history. In 2022 the trial related to the death of George Floyd, that took place during this trecena, became a pivotal episode related to the Black Lives Matter movement. These kinds of deeply emotional events are the kinds of matters that can lead to significant change. And indeed, it was the first day of this time frame, in 2019, that brought forth a highly critical turning point in terms of calls for justice related to the multiple crimes perpetuated by the dumpster, as Michael Cohen’s lengthy congressional testimony, given on that day, is now seen as a “pivotal moment”, a key inflection point that opened to door to the deeper investigations that followed. Just one cycle after that hearing, several of the dumpster’s associates were convicted of crimes, and the first impeachment hearings were underway.

By the time this trecena came into place last June, all of those investigative efforts culminated in the dumpster offically becoming “Defendant Trump”, as the US justice system clicked in with a torrent of actions. Special Counsel Jack Smith announced the 37-count indictment against the dumpster relating to the “wilful retention of national defence information under the Espionage Act”, which was followed by the dumpster’s arraignment in Miami; and the go-ahead was given for E. Jean Carroll to pursue her defamation case against him (which she won last month). And now, as this Kawak trecena comes into place this time, we are awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision on the “immunity” question, as well as a court decision relating to the Georgia case, as preparations for his other trials are underway . . . all this in addition to the rulings that have ordered him to pay over $500 million relating to the trials that have recently concluded. This being the Kawak trecena it is likely that more similarly catalytic events can be expected.

And then there are the horrifically brewing storms relating to the Russia-Ukraine war, and to the situation in Gaza. One cycle ago it was the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River, by occupying Russian forces, that was the focus of attention, as hundreds of thousands of people were severely affected by the inundation of waters from that reservoir.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP), which relied on water from the reservoir behind the dam, is still in critical danger of over-heating as a result of that situation. Moreover, with the dumpster’s sycophants in the US House holding up funding for Ukraine, Ukrainian forces not only have been unable to push forward with its counteroffensive in the war with Russia, but have been losing ground in some areas. During this time frame a major push will be on to get those funds released.

And then there is the unspeakably horrific situation in Gaza, with hundreds of thousands  of starving people still awaiting international assistance, with many countries calling on the US to use its influence to rein in Israel’s attacks on Gaza, while Israel remains “dug in”. Will this trecena bring the “cleansing” forces that are needed to bring forth a ceasefire?

And then there is the “storm” brewing related to the untimely and mysterious death of Alexei Navalny in Russia. As Kirkegaard noted: “The tyrant dies and his rule is over, the martyr dies and his rule begins.” Alexei Navalny will live on, forever, in the hearts of people with conscience, and his “fearless” wife Yulia, the first to pick up his banner and fight on, will be joined by thousands, millions . . . to fight on until the tyrant is finally banished. May the cleansing, purifying forces of this water-based energy frame give her, and all anti-corruption activists, the strength and fortitude needed to carry on. Here are the energies that are coming into place:

One Kawak (Feb. 21st)) – the “initiation” of a “catalytic storm”, as heavy rains continue to inundate southern California, along with thunderstorm warnings and flood watches. This storm-related energy marks one cycle since Russia’s destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River in Ukraine, which released a massive flood of water from the reservoir, that flooded dozens of villages and parts of the city of Kherson. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned this destruction as “an environmental bomb of mass destruction”, and vowed that Ukrainians would fight on to completely liberate their country from Russian occupiers.

One cycle before that all eyes were on London as hundreds of heads of state and foreign dignitaries gathered inside Westminster Abbey for Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, to say farewell to the UK’s longest reigning monarch, which took place exactly two cycles after the funeral in April of 2021 for Prince Philip at Windsor Castle. One Kawak is also the Maya Calendar birth energy of Diana, Princess of Wales.

In 2019 this was the energy in place at the time of Michael Cohen’s open hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee during which time he accused the dumpster of being “a racist, a conman and a cheat” and implied that he was involved in federal crimes while in office. This was seen as a “delicate and pivotal moment in history” as Cohen “unlocked the door” and shed light on a wide range of fraudulent activities and wrongdoings associated with the dumpster that subsequently have been investigated. Indeed, it was one cycle ago, last June, at different points within this trecena, when the dumpster was arraigned on multiple charges.

Currently this is the UN’s International Mother Language Day, a worldwide observance to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity. It is also the 4th Gregorian anniversary of the discovery of Italy’s first case of Covid-19 in 2020. Shortly thereafter dozens of towns began locking down to prevent the spread.

2 Ajaw (Feb. 22nd) – a dynamic type of energy aligned with the full sun, full power, and the idea of “enlightenment”, coinciding with the Abu Simbel Sun Festival in Egypt. This is the day when the statues of Ramses II, Ra the sun god, and Amun, the principal deity, located deep in the sanctum sanctorum will be lit by the sun. This only happened on two days during the year. By coinciding with 2 Ajaw at this time this is a perfect correlation.

This is also the opening day for the 50th Festival of Native Arts in Fairbanks, Alaska, with the theme of “Troth Yeddha’ Forever: Our Ways of Life”.

Meanwhile, on the moon – this is the day when the Intuitive Machines’, IM-1 “Odysseus” lander, with its five robotic payloads, is due to land at the lunar south pole. It was launched at 1:05 am on Feb. 15th (8 B’en). This will be the first US lunar touchdown in 52 years (since the final Apollo crewed moon mission in 1972), and the first by a private company. This is also the first journey to the moon’s surface under NASA’s Artemis moon program.

This marks the 4th Gregorian anniversary of the day in 2020 (2:22:20) when towns in northern Italy began locking down due to the coronavirus, including Milan, where shops, museums, theatres, restaurants, schools, and universities began closing, as the number of cases quickly rose. This was a real “head’s up” as to the seriousness of what was quickly developing into a pandemic.

This marks three cycles since five of the world’s most powerful nations agreed that “a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought” in a rare joint pledge to reduce the risk of such a conflict ever starting. The pledge, called Joint Statement of the Leaders of the Five Nuclear-Weapon States on Preventing Nuclear War and Avoiding Arms Races, was signed by the US, Russia, China, the UK, and France, the five nuclear weapons states recognised by the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) who are also the five permanent members of the UN security council. They are known as the P5 or the N5.

This was also in place in early 2014 when the Crimean parliament voted to secede from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation.

3 Imix (Feb. 23rd) – the “activation” of “birth” or the realm of all potential, coinciding with the deadline that the Israeli government was given by the International Court of Justice to report on what it has done to comply with the six orders the court issued, including one relating to ending incitement to genocide and another requiring immediate steps to improve the supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In the Chinese Lunar New Year sequence, this is Lantern Decoration day just before the Chinese Lantern Festival.

This marks two cycles since Letitia James, New York State’s attorney general, filed a 222 page lawsuit against the dumpster, his children, and his family real estate business, accusing them of a sweeping pattern of fraud. The conclusion of the trial in that case ended just a few days ago, with him being required to pay over $450 million in fines. So when that lawsuit was filed on that 3 Imix day, it “gave birth” to an investigative process that led to this stunning conclusion. AG James has also emphasized that she is prepared to seize his assets if he cannot pay these fines.

It has also been two cycles since Presidents Biden and Zelenskyy gave speeches at the UN, with a focus on war crimes perpetuated by Russia, at the same time as Putin was escalating his war against Ukraine. And now the focus is on the question of how Alexei Navalny, Putin’s greatest critic, died suddenly last week while in a remote Russian Arctic prison known as “Polar Wolf”. With the war continuing, and people taking to the streets to protest against Putin in cities around the world, it is possible that new initiatives could be soon forthcoming in the international fight against Russian tyranny. Indeed, Yulia Navalnaya, Alexei’s “fearless” wife, who was born on a 4 Imix day, has already stepped up to lead the fight. This is the day when the US is expected to announce a major package of sanctions against Russia, to “hold Russia accountable” for what happened to Alexei.

4 Ik’ (Feb. 24th) – the “defining” of wind/breath/spirit; an important energy associated with the connection between the sun and the wind oriented deity known as Quetzalcoatl/ Feathered Serpent. This is one of the five energies at the centre of the Aztec Sun Stone. It is also the birth energy of Nahui Ehécatl (4 Wind aka 4 Ik’), one of the patrons of this time frame. This is coinciding with the Lunar New Year Lantern Festival, the 15th and final day of Chinese New Year festivities, on the first full moon of the new Chinese year – the Full Snow Moon. This is the time when special sweet dumplings (called yuanxiao) resembling the shape of the full moon are eaten, and lanterns are lit to facilitate the return of light.

This marks the second anniversary of the day when Russia unleashed a full-scale invasion of Ukraine involving cruise and ballistic missiles, with tanks entering from Belarus and Crimea. That was when President Zelenskyy ordered full military mobilization for Ukraine and thousands began boarding trains and finding various ways to leave the country. On this two year anniversary candlelit vigils and special “Stand with Ukraine” prayer ceremonies will take place globally. US warships will be conducting exercises with others in the Bay of Bengal, and a new round of “robust sanctions” will be levied against Russia by the US, the EU, and other partners. And . . . the world is still waiting for Republicans in the US House of Representatives to approve greatly needed aid for Ukraine. Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney has already slammed the GOP’s “Putin wing” for blocking bipartisan legislation to help Ukraine.

This marks three cycles since US Attorney General Merrick Garland affirmed, in January of 2022, that the US Justice Department was committed to defending democracy and to holding all perpetrators of the January 6th insurrection, at any level, accountable under law — whether they were present that day or were otherwise criminally responsible for the assault on democracy. As he put it, “We will follow the facts wherever they lead.” And seemingly, right on schedule, two cycles after that announcement, Special Counsel Jack Smith announced the 37-count indictment against Trump pertaining to the squirrelling away of federal documents, charging him with the “wilful retention of national defence information under the Espionage Act”. That was one cycle ago, with Smith now preparing for a trial in that case, which may start this spring.

5 Ak’b’al (Feb. 25th) – the “pinpointing” of deep esoteric mysteries (or even “darkness”), an energy that could also be seen as a “targeting” type of energy associated with “House”, as was in place early in 2019 when the House Judiciary Committee in the U.S. formally began gathering proof of obstruction of justice, corruption, and abuses of power with regard to the “former guy’s” administration. Many of those abuses are now the subjects of several investigations and pending trials. Three cycles ago this was in place at the time of the release of The Insurrection Index that contains 1,404 records of people in positions of trust who acted as accomplices in Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election, by either participating directly in the insurrection or by spreading the “big lie” that the vote count had been rigged. That was the day when seven Capital police officers filed a lawsuit in the Federal District Court in Washington DC against the dumpster, several of his allies, and many accused rioters. That case is still pending.

Back in April of 2021, exactly four cycles ago, people in dozens of Russian cities joined protests in support of the jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny, responding to calls from Navalny’s allies who said he was dangerously ill in prison while on a hunger strike. Protests took place in many cities in Russia, from Vladivostok in the far east to Moscow and St. Petersburg, with thousands of people turning out despite warnings from authorities. Several hundred were arrested as they gathered bravely in central squares, chanting Freedom to Navalny. And now Navalny is dead, Russia has been delaying the release of his body, and his brave wife Yulia Navalnaya is stepping up to carry on his fight.

Back in June of 1944 this was the energy in place when the US seized a German U-boat, allowing the US access to all the secret information that it was carrying, including Nazi codebooks.

In 2005 this was the energy in place when the weather system that turned into Hurricane Katrina formed as a Tropical Depression.

Currently, in Sydney, Australia, this is the opening of a two-day International Conference on Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies.

6 K’an (Feb. 26th) – a “six directions” type of energy aligned with “youthful vitality”, coinciding at this time with the opening of the three-day 10th International Conference on Information Systems Security and Privacy, in Rome, Italy. This is also the day for the opening of the UN’s Environment Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya, which runs through to March 1st, with the theme for UNEA-6 being “effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution”. In Barcelona this is the opening day for the 4-day Mobile World Congress, referred to as “The world’s largest and most influential connectivity event”.

This marks six cycles since the publication of A Warning in 2019 which offered “an unprecedented behind-the-scenes portrait of the Trump presidency”, written by someone who identified himself as part of the “Resistance Inside the Trump Administration”. This took place at the same time as “stormy” impeachment hearings were underway over the dumpster’s attempt to coerce the president of Ukraine.

7 Chikchan (Feb. 27th) – a self-generating Liberation/Lifeforce type of energy, seen traditionally as the daysign of Chicomecóatl, the Aztec Goddess of agriculture (especially maize) which was representative of the more positive aspects of this time frame, with its potential for providing conditions that are favorable for bringing forth nourishment. However, this can also be an intense energy, as seen in 1985 when a devastating 8.1 earthquake struck Mexico City under this influence, collapsing over 400 buildings and killing at least 5,000 people.

This is an energy that can also quickly generate strong winds, as it did in September of 2022 when thousands of people were evacuated as Super Typhoon Noru (Cat. 5) battered the Philippines eastern islands with gusts of up to 195 km/hr (125mph) after an “explosive intensification”.

One cycle ago this was in place when Exercise Air Defender 23 began in Europe, the largest deployment exercise of air forces in NATO’s history, involving up to 10,000 exercise participants from 25 nations with 250 aircraft, to train for air operations in European airspace. In 1944 the greatest amphibious assault in history, known as D-Day, took place under this influence, marking the beginning of European liberation near the end of World War II.

Currently this is International Polar Bear Day, and the publication day for Andrew Weisman’s The Trump Indictments, 5 years to the day since Michael Cohen’s “unlocking the door” testimony to congress on that One Kawak day noted above.

8 Kimi (Feb. 28th) – a “resurrection” type of energy associated with “death” or “absolute spiritual foundations” coinciding at this time with the return to congress of US lawmakers under pressure to pass the $66.3 billion bipartisan funding package to provide aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, and funds for the US southern border. Titled the “Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act,” this would include $47.69 billion to help with the defense of Ukraine. They also need to immediately pass comprehensive funding measures for various government agencies. This is the day when newly-elected Democrat Tom Suozzi will be sworn in to the US House of Representatives.

Note that this is marking one cycle exactly since the dumpster was arraigned in court in Miami on charges relating to his hoarding of classified government documents. This was the first-ever federal indictment of a former president. As he is also under indictment in New York for the hush-money scheme, with that case due to go to trial on March 25th.

In Canada this is Pink Shirt Day, with its anti-bullying focus and its focus on finding ways to reduce conflict and foster positive relationships.

9 Manik’ (Feb. 29th) – an “outwardly projecting” type of energy associated with harmonization and reciprocity, but also “sacrifice”, the Maya calendar anniversary of the energy that was in place when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his memorable “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial during the first national integrated civil rights march in the U.S., the largest civil rights rally in U.S. history. Currently this is the opening day for the Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC), an annual comic book convention, in Seattle.

10 Lamat (March 1st) “foundational bright star” – a fundamental “signalling” type of energy which also has a tendency to “kick up a storm”, as many severe storms have been in effect under this influence. However, if there is a weather window open this is the scheduled launch date for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8, heading to the ISS.

In 1918 this was the energy in place when the Representation of the People Act came into effect that extended the vote to 8.4 million women in the UK over the age of 30. Currently this is coinciding with the start of Women’s History Month in the U.S., with this year’s theme being “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion”. In addition, this is the World Day of Prayer, a global ecumenical movement that began in the 19th century.

It has now been 7 cycles exactly since the US House of Representatives first passed a sweeping anti-corruption and government ethics package, known as For the People Act 2019 (H.R. 1, 2019) which was designed to expand voting rights, limit partisan gerrymandering, strengthen ethics rules, and fundamentally reshape how elections are run. It was reintroduced in 2021 and passed by the House. However, despite the popularity of this bill, it has yet to be passed by the Senate.

11 Muluk (March 2nd) – the “change” in conjunction with “water” energy that has brought forth many very intense water related events, such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Nine cycles ago (in 2017) this was the energy in place when the fast moving Hurricane Nate reached hurricane strength in the Gulf of Mexico, before making landfall near the Mississippi Delta two days later. Six cycles ago, in Nov. 2019, this 11 Muluk energy brought storms of “biblical proportions” that swept through France, Greece, and Italy, triggering landslides, flash floods, and black-outs. Five cycles ago there were widespread floods in Kerala, India at the same time as a devastating derecho ripped through Iowa. Four cycles ago Super Typhoon Surigae explosively intensified into a bomb cyclone under this influence, near the Aleutian Islands, and three cycles ago this energy brought a devastating “atmospheric river” to B.C., which resulted in devasating flooding. Two cycles ago, in September of 2022, Hurricane Ian tracked across central Florida, leaving a trail of destruction, at the same time as Typhoon Noru brought heavy rains and thunderstorms to Thailand. And the last time this was in place (last June) millions of people across India and Pakistan were dealing with the effects of Cyclone Biparjoy. This is definitely not an energy to be trifled with!

Currently, down south, this is the start of WorldPride Sydney 2024, coinciding with the 46th Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

12 Ok (March 3rd) – a “grouping together” energy associated with love, warmth, and guidance – and sometimes even fire, coinciding at this time with the UN’s World Wildlife Day devoted to celebrating and raising awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. This year’s theme is “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”.

In Japan this is Hinamatsuri, aka Doll’s Day or Girls’ Day, a day devoted to celebrating female children and to pray for their health and happiness. This is also the final day of the Nice Carnival.

13 Chuwen (March 4th) – “transformational monkey” or “transformational play”, an intense and highly creative “time weaving” type of energy, sometimes referred to as “Thirteen Threads”; a powerfully innovative type of force traditionally aligned with play, creativity, “time-weaving”, and even (at times) intense “trickery”. This is the kind of energy that can sometimes prompt one into thinking differently or trying out new possibilities, as was in place on Jan. 20th, 2017 at the time of the dumpster’s inauguration amid a massive demonstration of resistance by some 60 protest groups. That was the same day as New York’s Department of Financial Services fined Deutsche Bank $425 million for its involvement in a money-laundering scheme using mirror-trading that improperly shifted $10 million out of Russia. That was the same bank that had loaned millions to the dumpster. This was to be the start date for the dumpster’s trial in the DC federal insurrection/election subversion case (re Jan. 6th). However, that date had to be postponed, now awaiting a Supreme Court ruling.

Currently this is “March Forth” or “Do Something” Day, at the beginning of Women of Aviation Worldwide Week (to Mar. 10th). It is also the 117th birthday of Maria Branyas Morera, the Spanish supercentenarian who was declared the world’s oldest person in Jan of 2023. Happy birthday Maria!

Three cycles ago this energy brought forth an enormous eight-minute underwater eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Ha’apai volcano that was so violent it could be heard as “loud thunder” in Fiji, 800 km away, and in some cases it was “heard and felt” more than 2,000 km away. A sonic boom could be heard as far away as Alaska.
