After the eventful conclusion to the last trecena, with cyclones in Australia, hundreds of thousands of protestors on the streets of London, and findings from the long anticipated Mueller report being delivered to the U.S. Congress, we come to a pivotal point within the 260 day Tzolk’in cycle. One Chikchan on March 25th marks the start of the third 52-day period, a time often associated with both justice and “awakening”. And as this Chikchan trecena traditionally placed emphasis on emergence, liberation, and the triumph of lifeforce over death, it will be interesting to see what transpires at this time.

As this is a trecena that has been known to strongly energize and push people into action, great passion and intensity, and even bravery, often comes into play at this time, in keeping with Chikchan’s lifeforce-oriented nature. Certainly those were the forces in play one cycle ago when rescuers carried out a complex and highly dramatic operation to retrieve the 12 boys and their leader who were trapped deep within a long, convoluted, serpentine cave system in Thailand. The rescue involved intricate underwater maneuvres that required great skill, dexterity, courage, and multi-level cooperation.

While that was taking place Super Typhoon Maria (equivalent to a Cat. 5 hurricane) was headed towards southern Japan, northern Taiwan, and eastern China. And now, as this trecena begins, Australia is being pounded by twin cyclones.

Seven cycles ago (in 2014) the beginning of this trecena coincided with the release of a 2610 page report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on the perils of climate change and the dire need to cut greenhouse gas emissions. This critical report emphasized the risks to the planet on multiple levels and led to the development of the historic Climate Change Accord which was signed by 196 nations in April of 2016. Since governmental action has been slow in this regard the world’s youth are now pushing for action, as seen in the massive Global Climate Strike during the last trecena. No doubt this Chikchan trecena will add energy to this cause.

And, in the political arena, with this trecena in place as scrutiny of the just released Mueller report begins, this trecena’s orientation around “justice” is sure to factor into the debate over the implications of the findings from this 22 month probe into connections between Russia and the 2016 US election. Again the timing is interesting because during the last appearance of this energy sequence Trump was stomping his way through Europe. At that time Senator Chuck Schumer summed it up when he said that during that week alone Trump attacked the US’s closest allies in NATO, called the EU a foe, meddled in the domestic affairs of the UK, and held a shameful meeting with Putin in Helsinki, at which time he was seen as throwing U.S. intelligence agencies “under a bus”. The reactions to this summit were scathing. And now these same energies will be in place as the Mueller report is being analyzed during a critical transition period within the calendar cycle known as the Wayeb’, the transitional days leading to the start of the Maya New Year, which coincide (at this time) with the last five days of March. Traditionally many sought extra protection at this time due to the “uncertainty” of these Wayeb’ forces.

But regardless of the Wayeb’ that will accompany those critical five days, this is generally a high energy time frame oriented around justice, freedom, higher knowledge, cyclical renewal, and the triumph of lifeforce. This is the energy of the great Plumed Serpent – a highly transformative force that was seen as being so vibrant and inspirational that it was the focal point for all that was sacred in Mesoamerica prior to the 16th century Spanish intrusion.

It is an energy period that carries a force that can bring forth strong life-oriented surges that often help to counterbalance injustices that seem to abound these days, as seen two cycles ago when U.S. officials begin deportation raids on undocumented immigrants in the U.S., which was followed almost immediately with massive protests such as the enormous “Day Without Latinos” demonstrations.

In 1776 this was the energy in place at the time of the push towards a new state of being that resulted in the adoption of the U.S. Declaration of Independence on the ninth day of this trecena, and again in 1960 when John F. Kennedy delivered his acceptance speech on the first day of this time frame after narrowly winning the presidential election. In that speech an echo of this energy push could be heard in Kennedy’s pledge to devote himself “to the cause of freedom around the world”. In 2012 this same trecena brought a resounding victory for President Obama during that year’s presidential elections.

This idea of freedom and the opening up of new possibilities seems to be a common theme during this sequence. Often infusing people with a strong sense of “mission”, this energy sequence has often fomented world-shifting actions, as when Hernan Cortés and his conquistadores accepted the surrender of the Aztecs at Tenochtitlan on the first day of this trecena in 1521, after defeating them in a fierce battle.

So as we go through these next 13 days, with the next Brexit deadline looming, with massive calls for action with regard to climate change, with multiple on-going investigations into corruption taking place in the US at the same time as the Mueller report is being processed, with a presidential election in Ukraine looming, with Venezuela and several other countries in severe crisis, and with many other issues in the works (such as the lead-up to the Alberta election in April), there is much that will unfold during this Chikchan trecena. It is a time frame during which the push towards liberation and awakening can be profound, particularly in circumstances that scream for justice, fairness, and equality – and, of course, at this time, such conditions can be found in many different places.

So once again, with the Chikchan trecena back in place this is an opportune time to step up, to continue the call for justice and dignity and fairness and honour, and to continue pushing mightily against the darkness so that lifeforce and liberation can once again shine through. As always, this is a time (energy-wise) when major shifts from one state of being into another have traditionally been possible, opening up the potential to release blockages and find freedom.

Keep in mind that it is the Feathered Serpent’s ability to lift off the ground and fly – its ability to be a portal between Earth and the Heavens that can help us to think and act differently, that can help us to “reach for the sky”. As always during this Chikchan trecena the Plumed Serpent’s Lifeforce energy will be working with each of the thirteen days as events unfold. Here are the energies that will come into play:

1 Chikchan (March 25th) – the “initiation” of Lifeforce/Higher Wisdom at the start of the third 52-day period within the 260-day cycle, an intense and highly influential position within the overall cycle. In China this energy currently coincides with the birthday of Guanyin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy.

On the last appearance of this critical point in the 260 day cycle, the energy of One Chikchan saw the start of the dramatic rescue of the 13 boys in Thailand at the same time as Super Typhoon Maria was headed towards southern Japan, northern Taiwan, and eastern China. It was an intense time for millions of people.

And now, as this trecena again comes into play, this vibrant force will be stirring things up in many areas, including the UK where millions are demanding a second Peoples Vote on Brexit, and in the US where intense scrutiny of the just released Mueller report is set to begin, as the implications of the Special Council’s findings from his 22 month probe into connections between Russia and the 2016 US election start to unfold. It was four cycles ago precisely when Paul Manafort became Trump’s campaign chairman and chief strategist. Having gone through two trials recently he is now facing many years in prison. Note that this is also an anniversary of the energy in place when Germany declared war on France in 1914. On that day Switzerland declared its neutrality and mobilized its defense forces.

2 Kimi (March 26th) – a dynamic type of energy aligned with the “return to source” which often manifests as a push-pull type of force that can shake things up and set new foundations for action (as was in place at both the beginning and end of World War I). At this time the U.S. House of Representatives will hold a vote in an attempt to override Trump’s veto of a resolution to terminate his “manufactured” national emergency declaration. This will be a definite push-pull kind of situation in terms of mustering sufficient votes to deal with this situation. Intriguingly this is Nancy Pelosi’s 79th Gregorian birthday and Chuck Schumer’s Maya birthday, so it will be interesting to see if the “birthday gods” will be delivering the gifts that they want at this time.

3 Manik’ (March 27th) – the “activation” of reciprocity, symbolized by a deer that “embodies” the sun on Earth, a kind of harmonizing, “hands-on” type of energy connected with the natural world, coinciding at this time with the “seating” of the Wayeb’, the first of five transitional days leading to the start of the Maya New Year, a short five day energy sequence around which there is some disagreement with regard to their nature. In some places these days have been seen as “dangerous” or at least a time frame that required special vigilance or caution. Others see them as transitional days or “days of rest”, a good time to fast, meditate, and purify to eliminate toxins and cleanse one’s spirit in order to prepare for the new year. In essence this is a good time to go through a profound cleansing to get rid of the “burdens” of the past and get ready for the new.

4 Lamat (March 28th) – a “defining” energy associated with Venus (the sun and Venus working together), often serving as a beacon or herald. Maya birth energy of Fletcher Knebel, author of “The Night of Camp David”, a 1965 novel that was re-released last November, about a dangerously unstable president.

Two cycles exactly since China’s President Xi Jinping was declared “all powerful”, after a new body of political thought carrying his name was added to the Communist party’s constitution, thereby raising his power to the level of Mao, whereby potentially extending his leadership indefinitely. At that time he pledged to lead China into “a new era” of international power and influence. One cycle since the start of Trump’s highly problematic European visit that began with the confrontational interactions at the 29th NATO summit in Brussels.

5 Muluk (March 29th) – a “precision” (or “blessing”) type of energy associated with the shape-shifting energy of water. This was original date for the taking effect of Brexit, one cycle after two of Brexit’s chief architects resigned over disagreement with the way Theresa May was handling the situation. Since then much more has fallen apart in this regard, with the EU expecting some kind of response in two weeks. With millions of people now calling for a new vote to “Stop Brexit” the situation is particularly intense at this time. Four cycles ago (in 2016) this was the energy in place at the opening of the first World Humanitarian Summit (in Istanbul) to address the global crisis of more than 130 million people needing humanitarian help. More than 180 member states were involved in the summit.

6 Ok (March 30th) – a “shine the light in the darkness, everywhere” type of force, amusingly coinciding at this time with Earth Hour, when households and businesses around the world are
encouraged to switch off non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30-9:30 pm as a sign of commitment to the planet.

This is the day of the official launch rally for Beto O’Rourke’s campaign for president in 2020, after announcing his candidacy on Mar. 14th. One cycle since the massive anti-Trump demonstrations in the UK – one of the nation’s largest since the 2003 protests against the American-Britain led invasion of Iraq.

Maya Calendar birth energy of Shepard Fairey, the talented artist and social activist who has created a wide range of powerful political posters, including the iconic “Hope” portrait of Barack Obama and the “resistance” ones that were so prominent during the Women’s March in January of 2017.

7 Chuwen (March 31st) –“self-generating play”, a highly creative “time weaving” (and sometimes trick playing) type of energy that can sometimes conjure up things of an unusual nature, coinciding at this time with the final day of the Maya Wayeb’ and the Ukraine presidential elections. Two Calendar Rounds (2 x 52 years) precisely since Italy entered World War I on the side of the Allies in 1915.

8 Eb’ (April 1st) – the “resurrection” of the pathfinding energy of vitality, associated with the “dew of life”; a day which the Maya traditionally devoted to the Celebration of Personal Life, as was in place in 1994 when Nelson Mandela won the election to become the first democratically elected State President of South Africa. Currently this special day coincides with the “seating” of the Classical Maya New Year, with April Fool’s Day, and with Nancy Pelosi’s Maya birth energy. A good time to light a new fire and take a deep breath as a new year begins.

9 B’en (April 2nd) – the “outward projection” of “personal authority” (or “immortal personal authority”) – Barack Obama’s Maya birth energy and the birth energy of the U.S. Four cycles since President Obama’s historic visit to Hiroshima, the first visit to that city by a U.S. president since the atomic bomb was dropped in 1945. At that time the world applauded as he called for a “world without nuclear weapons”.

By dramatic contrast, one cyle ago this was the energy in place when Trump met with Putin in Helsinki, just 13 days after the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee released their report wherein they concurred with the earlier reports by the CIA, NSA, and FBI that revealed how Russia had worked to sow discord, undermine democratic institutions, and interfere in U.S. elections, and that this influence campaign was approved by President Putin. For some reason the notes from that meeting have been kept away from public view. That day was the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Czar Nicholas and his family on the night of July 16th-17th, 1918.  It was under this influence three cycles ago that Alec Baldwin reprised his caricature portrayal of Trump in an entire episode of Saturday Night Live.

10 Ix (April 3rd) – a “source” based energy associated with the jaguar and the mysteries of the earth; two cycles exactly since the Russia scandal in the U.S. officially became a LEGAL case, with indictments involving issues such as money laundering and “conspiracy against the U.S.” were issued against Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, and George Papadopoulos.

11 Men (April 4th) – “inspirational Eagle” – a Burner Day that can bring about change or a new form of Higher Vision, correlating at this time with 70th anniversary of the founding of NATO, at which time NATO foreign ministers will meet in Washington D.C. This is also the 52nd anniversary of the shocking assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis, seen as “one of the most tragic, catalytic and meaningful events in American history”. Maya birth energy of the pioneering French illusionist and film director George Méliès, seen as the first to film fictional narratives in the earliest days of motion pictures. He was the subject of the Academy award winning 2011 film titled “Hugo”.

One cycle since some 175 “Confront Corruption: Demand Democracy” demonstrations took place across the US, in the form of a national candlelight vigil at sundown. Currently this is the day when the MoveOn.org coalition is calling for a National Day of Action to demand the release of the Mueller report.

12 Kib’ (April 5th) – a “gathering together” type of energy, associated with the ability to “survey”, clean things up, and ultimately restore order, coinciding at this time with New Moon and with China’s Qingming (“pure brightness”) Festival, aka Chinese Memorial Day, Ancestor’s Day, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, an important day for remembering ancestors. Maya birth energy of French President Emmanuel Macron as well as business magnate and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen who passed away last October.

13 Kab’an (April 6th) – transformational movement (or earth movement), a powerful force that can bring either heavy weather conditions, or significant “movement” of an evolutionary nature. International Pillow Fight Day. Five cycles since astrophysicists were able to detect and observe the warping of space-time, seen as the beginning of gravitational wave astronomy.
